Battle of Britain 2 Terrain Operation Seelöwe
Sokol replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Hi Gepard, amny thanks for this truly outstanding work. may I report a small glitch: the ground object-folder is is labelled "groundobjectS" (plural S), when it should be "groundobject" (singular, no trailing s) for sf2, so that these objects may show up in-game. cheers sokol- 12 replies

Il2 DD Update Dev Blog 279 "Long Edition"
Sokol replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: News
amazing pictures. one remark concerning landscape-textures: in those days - prior to the late 1950ies ! - fields in Germany were much smaller, sort of stripes, because of division amongst sons / children. for instance: -
What-If VPAF attack/intruder aircraft
Sokol replied to macelena's topic in Military and General Aviation
hi, AFAIK attack mission by the VPAF were very rare. given the overwhelming superiority - in quantity and most cases in quality - of the US-forces, given the geographical situation - a very long panhandle, surrounded by enemy forces in the east, the west and the south, the VPAF had extreme difficulties to even protect their homeland, let alone perform counter-attacks. But these did occur: not on a regular basis, but in guerilla-style - quick, unexpected, small numbers, without scheme. As mentioned above: il-28 bombers seem to have been used in Laos on various occasions An-2 were used against outposts (most famous is their attack on Lima-Site 85, later conquered by a NVA-regiment) MiG-17s attacked US-vessels MiG-21 are said to have been involved in air-to-ground missions in the final all-out offensive in 1975 A-37 (and F-5 ?) were used in the final assault on Saigon I guess there have been a lot more incidents like these, since the USA did not deploy Hawk-missiles and F-102 interceptors to Vietnam for nothing. eventually, time will show. the lack of an unbiased authorative book on the air-war in SEA is felt very heavy. sokol -
New aircraft sorting list for Aircraft selection (Menu)
Sokol replied to Eagle114th's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi Eagle, me too, i think the selection menue deserves some reflection and a lift-up. I would appreciate a way to get rid of the clutter in the aircraft selection menue. over time there are so many aircraft and subtypes of an aircraft that it becomes a real pein to scroll through all of them to get to the one aircraft you want to fly. Is there a way sub-divide the selection menue: select aircraft-type first (i.e. MiG-21), and select the variant in a second step (i.e. MiG-21MF or -bis ...) ? btw i really doubt the usefullness of, let us say, some 20 sub-variants of the spitfire. there is certainly some reason behind differentiating between major subtypes, but the game engine simply does not support minor modifications. The SF-series is not a simulator-type of game like DCS or the IL2-Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad-series. cheers sokol -
Hi, i would like to see some Soviet types: Ye-152 A (Flipper, 2 engines) Tu-154 (mainstay of eastern civil aviation) Yak-130 is also very welcomed as for yet another Spitfire: we already have a whole bunch of it's subtypes, which cluster the aircraft selection panel. but of course: everybody has got his own pets ;-) cheers sokol

YE -152M
Sokol replied to torno's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
hi, these aircraft used brute force (and advanced materials and techniques). the only one of the series was the Ye-152A, shown in the first picture by Russouk. it seems to have been the only one to come somewhat - if marginally - closer to a series production, hence the NATO-designation "Flipper" for this variant. it would be very very nice to get the Ye-152A too, since imho it looks more elegant with it's twin engines (some people never get enough ;-( cheers sokol -
YE -152M
Sokol replied to torno's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
wow that makes a fine interceptor (although a very thirsty one). the Ye-152M never got a NATO-designation since it was never thought to be in service. "Flipper" was the name given to the "MiG-23" which was a member of the Ye-150-family, but with 2 jet-engines and without canards. the only prototype was shown in a flypast in Tushino 1961, and so NATO accorded the wrong service name "MiG-23". the true MiG-23 was of course the swing wing fighter of the late 1960ies. cheers Sokol -

climb rate / data.ini: units ?
Sokol posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi, yesterday I was unable to catch a F-80C with a MiG-15bis. looking into their data.inis I found strange climb-rate-values: F-80C: 247 (real 35 m/sec) MiG-15: 242 (real: 51 m/sec) F-86F: 238 (real: 46 m/sec) So I need some help concerning the units in which some aircraft parameters are measured in the respective ___data.ini: CruiseSpeed= meters per second ? ClimbSpeed= ???? CornerSpeed= meters per second ? MaxSpeedSL= meters per second ? thank you for your help. cheers sokol -
climb rate / data.ini: units ?
Sokol replied to Sokol's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
if you look into the climb-speed of various stock-aircraft made by TW things get very strange: B-52D: 249 F-4E-72: 268 F-15A: 268 Lightning: 348 MiG-21PFM: 268 MiG-23MLD: 378 P-51D: 77 some third-party-aircraft offer the following data: B-47: 268 FW-190A4: 192 MiG-29: 181 ... climb speed does seem NOT to be connected to cruisespeed (or cornerspeed), most of the time it is higher than either of them the value-units are still unclear: they are most probably metric, but certainly not meters per second. so, which units are used ? what does climbspeed reflect if not real-life data ? cheers sokol -
