Couple of questions about Nieuports

Yes it has the same tail as that N24. I'll see if I can find a profile of the wings. -
Couple of questions about Nieuports
Tailspin replied to peter01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hello EmlD. Thanks for your help. The horizontal stabs are rounded too. "The aircraft was based on the Nieuport 17 and 24 fighters. The 27 incorporated a large plywood vertical tail and a redesigned, rounded horizontal tail to improve stability. Delage additionally rounded the 27's wingtips and ailerons to improve roll rate." -
Couple of questions about Nieuports
Tailspin replied to peter01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The N27, I believe, had rounded horizontal stabs like the N28's. http://mars.ark.com/~mdf/N_27.html Better description of the differences between 24 and 27. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nieuport_27 -
Are the 2-seaters more aggressive now?
Tailspin replied to Bandy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I'm pretty sure AI behaviour is dependent on mission types. Been flying a few different missions with the mission roles expanded. I ran a defensive patrol, which always is a fighter vs. fighter mission, and happened to get the Fokker BI as an opponent. It turned and manoeuvered like a fighter. Later I got the Fokker BI again on an intercept and they were in "bomber mode" and they behaved like bombers, staying in formation until the bomb run. I've yet to see a plane on a bombing mission breaking off and attacking. Thing is, with the roles expanded, you might get an Avaitik on an escort mission and they will fly like fighters. Like I said, I don't think this is a bad thing at least throughout 1915. -

IMHO changing the 2-seaters to take on all the mission types is a good idea and probably more authentic for the 1915-1916 time period. -
Its been awhile since I read this but I think the author mentions Flaming Onions a couple of times. http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/aviation...2#content_start

I'm going to go ahead and take the liberty of writing up how to get the N16 working. This is just the basics. It does not include Christian's modded DATA.INI as I'm not sure if its ready for general release yet? Anyway here's what I did. First make a copy of the Nieuport N11 folder. Rename it to Nieuport 16. Open the file and find the Neiuport11.ini. Open that and change the following lines: AircraftFullName=NIEUPORT 11 to 16 AircraftShortName=Nieuport 11 to 16 [LOD001] Filename=Nieuport11.LOD to Nieuport16.LOD Distance=100 Close and rename Nieuport11.ini to Nieuport16.ini Add the new N16 LOD and OUT files to the new Nieuport 16 folder you created. You'll also need the new lewis.bmp texure file. If you don't already have the lewis.bmp from Monte CZ's new Lewis gun model download it here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...80&start=80 Look for Monty CZ's post with the lewis.rar attachment....OR you can get the .bmp from the N17 Megapack. Drop the lewis.bmp into the N16 folder. (You may not have to do this if you have the Megapack already installed. I don't so I need the extra .bmp to get the gun texture to show up.) That ought to do it. I don't think I've left anything out. If you have probs just post here.

Nevermind. Got it sorted out. I needed the new lewis.bmp for the new gun model.
-
Haven't heard much lately. TK hinted a few weeks ago that they were nearing completion. Don't know if its even gone Beta yet?
-
Arty batteries? Good idea.
-
Hmmmm....The Lewis Gun has no texture. I noticed its not the same model as the N11's Lewis Gun. I just copied the N11 folder added the N16 LOD and renamed the .ini folder and the appropriate entries. What did I miss?

Many, many thanks Monty CZ!! YOU DA MAN.

As a matter of fact, I was just discussing this with someone the other day. It should be fairly straightforward to set up some new target areas like field HQs, bivouac, or rear assembly areas. Ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Worth including? Sure, why not? Too bad we don't have a proper model. Adding the headrest would be a simple modification, I'm sure. I'm still a bit uncertain about the Vickers mount though. What little I've read indicates it was rare for the N16.
-
The N16 actually was the N11 airframe with a headrest and larger opening in the front of the engine cowling. The 16 was, by all accounts I've read, less manoeuverable than the 11 because of the heavier engine. FWIW, judging from several comments in print, I don't think the Vickers gunned 16 was all that successful. Adding the Vickers and ammo to the nose just added more weight and imbalance. (See the comments on the 16 Willie Coppens rec'd in the link in my first post) The development of the larger N17 seems to have solved the problem with the Vickers installation. Just how common was the N16 on the Western Front? The RFC only had 23? Any numbers on the French? It appears the Russians flew them alot as they were also made under license in Russia. http://ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2000/06/...e_frenchww1.htm

The N16 had a headrest similar to the N17. I think you'd have to change the flight model as was often the case with these small, light, well balanced aircraft the extra weight of this "upgrade" adversely affected the great flying qualities of the N11 http://mars.ark.com/~mdf/N_11.html

Colorado Rockies. Boy I sure missed that one. I figured the Phillies had as good a chance as anybody in the NL. Never saw the Rockies comin'.... As for the Yankees? Well, Boss, money might be able to buy you a championship now and then but it still can't buy you love.

You're right. The 37mm should have some thump to it. I think its was Boots Blesse that said you could actually feel the muzzle blast impacting your control surfaces through the flightstick when a MiG fired it at you. Couple of things to check. Make sure the file is saved as a 11,025 hz 16bit Mono file. There are two places to add the file to the soundlist.ini. -
I'm gonna pick the Phillies. Yep, thats right. The Philadelphia Phillies. BTW...I'm a Cardinals fan since 1964 so da Cubbies ain't got nuttin' comin'.

I was reluctant at first but I downloaded First Eagles when it came out and have had no problems whatsoever. You can burn the .exe onto a disc for safekeeping. I've used the downloaded .exe several times (have backup clean install and have reinstalled the game) without a glitch. You may as well get used to it as I think Thirdwire likes the concept. -
