  1. Duce, if you happen to find one in US pls let me also know. I've got the CDs but would really likе to get that DVD unlocked version. Thanks, Dirk.
  2. What a relief. I now fly OFF and navigate without the radar and gps. As a consequence I don't use warp or time acceleration any more. It has become all different game flying by the map: you need to stay in the formation, orientate all the time and look out for enemies. I've got 2nd PC in my LAN and in the very beginning of each flight in 3D I pull up the game's GPS map and take 1-2 screenshots. Then I open the screenshot from my 2nd PC and use it as a flight map. Airfields are EXACTLY the landmarks that eventually enable you to navigate. Also you have to memorize how the surroundings of your field look from above (a town in the north-east or a forest block in the west etc.), you have to keep an eye on the compass and note the clock all the time. Usually it is harder to find the way back to your field than to navigate to the target with your formation. But after a few flights you become proficient with it and forget about the CFS3's immersion killers. This game has seriously changed to the much much better experience since I employed this first. The important implication is that I can fianlly play it and navigate 100% with my eye only as, I think, it was originally supposed to be played with so much detail in the wondeful wondeful scenery without missing any of it. Thanks! Dirk.

Buddye, the way AI is dogfighting against you in RoF is definitely one of the strongest points already in my opinion in RoF, I'm sure you'll be interested since you've put so much work in it in BoB2. The FM, physics, damage are the best I've seen among flightsims. Landscape is amazing and atmosphere above looks very much realistic, just fun to explore (sightseeing, a bit like in MSFS). I compare it with FSX's skytheme addons and RoF looks better, but haven't seen overcast in RoF yet. Unfortunately I have to wait till they replace 1.002 patch with something newer via their online authorization needle. With all that have been said already the novelty of RoF (and its elements) is very attractive. Dirk.

Objectively we're getting more and more hooked up on the Internet. Look at MS pushing their Windows Live. The piracy is a huge problem in the marginal flight simulation business. Dirk.
  5. Have to smile .....

No, that's the problem, Wels. You become the hostage of their authorization server that you connect to every single time you restart the game. And it decides for you about everything what you need and need not, including the patches. Why are you asking if have the sim btw? Sounds strange at least. And yeh, I live in europe if you mean geography. ;) Dirk. Guys, pls help me to unsubscribe from this forum, I get EVERY new message that is posted in OFF section. I just want those replies that I subscribe to. Thanks, Dirk.
  6. Have to smile .....

I've never thought of this, but now I start to understand better those who abstain from internet-based games. If they can fubar that bad their own product, I'm getting concerned about my PC they connect and send their malicious 'patches' to. I'm really frustrated and just need to shut up. Dirk
  7. Have to smile .....

You better ask them please to fix the latest 1.002 'version' ASAP, the game is practically unplayable at moment. It's just broken. Dirk.
  8. Have to smile .....

As I said it wouldn't happen. The discussion there has turned in a more reasonable direction (including Chivas): Dobby's RoF review on SimHQ thread So fear not next time, Cameljockey, and speak out if you have to say something. Important - keep it positive and no one will be beaten. ;) Dirk.
  9. Have to smile .....

Yes, buddye, that's exactly what I call 'comparison' and comparative method, lol, between different products to match your requirements. Anyway there's strange comment from Chivas, who says that OFF3 is not populated enough in that discussion: There's objective method to test what you said above, Chivas, called Lables On. Unless you played it on ground / air activity @ zero, you'd immediately see what you were missing. I've flown most of the flightsim games you'd mention, and I can tell you that OFF3 is the most populatated one (and not faked). Another example, come over to the noman's land I'll see yet how long you'd last there at 500ft, I'd give you no more than 5, because they are really firing at you (surpised?). Even more, you'd actually be able to find the source of each round that you got under your rear, should you really want to investigate... As to the improvements that could be made, so far I know another good game that really needs them direly and many. OFF3 is a piece of art, gold standard already, I just hope RoF will get there one day. Dirk.
  10. Have to smile .....

    We'll see, we'll see yet. But I agree, I'm biased - I love OFF3 and I like RoF. ;) Cheers, Dirk.
  11. Have to smile .....

No problem with that. But how different or same names of the developers can affect your opinions about games? I find it's natural people compare some aspects of two different ww1 flightsim titles. Unless only if they haven't flown one or both of them, then it's waste of time, of course. Dirk.
  12. Have to smile .....

It's just good for a few hours, WF2. Overall all missions are horrendously repetitive, they are all scripted. The only chance will be some sort of dynamic mission randomizers, front moving and statistics add-on tools and scripts, that already have shown very positivie results in IL2, LockOn online war servers, but they are few and only online, so I'm not sure if you understand what I'm talking about. Cheers, Dirk.
  13. Have to smile .....

I know some of the developers and they agree in general, but they say they have vision for RoF ahead, or smth like that, we'll see. Ming is not a factor for me, and not in RoF. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying RoF is weak. Cheers, Dirk.
  14. Have to smile .....

No, don't think so, it's not 'waste of time'. That's how one forms up his opinions and preferences - always in comparison. I posted my impression of RoF in the same thread with 'pixelated ground' on SimHQ, and that's how I found the game: SimHQ RoF review by Dobby Thanks, Dirk.
  15. :) You bark up the wrong tree, it's all Rabu's and Chris's efforts. Thanks, Dirk.
  16. Don't worry, I'll be washed away from here shortly. Sure, I'm also sure most players would as well. But that's me. Thanks, Dirk.
  17. Unnecessary exuberance from the gameplay point of view but very neat little touch from the mapping arts side. :) Thanks, Dirk.
  18. It's all done by ChrisPDM1, and thank you, guys. The locations look awesome on the map, Rabu. I wonder is there somewhere a list of the airfields in the game. Each time when you're briefed there's a name given to your destination waypoint which is almost always an airfield. Dirk.
  19. Thanks for the patches! What are the recommended Main/Rear Guns now in 1.28? In the previous v1.26 they were both on Hard as Winder suggested. I liked that setting, is it even harder now? If so, I'd notch it back to Normal. Dirk.
  20. Ok, let me get the Coordinates. I think there are also names for each airfield somewhere in the game. Thanks, Dirk.
  21. It's a huge job in itself, and no way it'll ever be done in CFS3 framework, so it's much easier to talk Rabu to the OFF3-adapted map. :) The only work around that I would personally be happy with inside OFF3 would be to turn off the plane's icon and the moving map (M), but I dont think even this is possible. The easiest way yet is to make a hand drawing of the flightpath and the airfields along the way, and take regular notes of what you see below flying to the target area. So, there's no place left for the Radar and Moving Map cheats. Thanks.
  22. Accepted. But as far as I am concerned I'm looking for the game-oriented fixed map. Doesnt matter if it on the screen or on the paper or under laminate, btw. Consider it is on the mapcase anyway. But what's the use of the map that shows a lot of what is not in the game, and on the contrary doesn't show the most prominent and salient details that exist in the game's world? I have real-life experience flying VFR maps, so I know what I'm asking about. Unfortunately I tried to fly Gimpy's sectionals and did not find it neither comfortable nor much relevant to what I see in the game scenery. It was more like flying the compass and the watch only. I mean it worked but what's the map for? That's why I'm very interested in this discussion. Thanks for your efforts again, I'll be waiting for your kind work on adjusting the map to the game's reality. Dirk.
  23. Nice. I still hope someone will place all the airfields on Rabu's map. There are no many landmarks but the airfields useable for orientation and navigation. And the whole concept is based on complete rejection of the M and 'radar' keys during the flight. Draw the plan on the ground off the M-map and never use it after that. When I start a new location, I usually fly around and take my notes (a village, a forest, an army field, a few bridges here and there). For me it's harder to find the home field on the way back, there are usually a few of them around. So I check out my notes then. And if you land on your field properly (as well as you if visit all the waypoints) you'll be rewarded by "Mission Success" screen. Dirk. PS: Rabu, I haven't checked carefully: are there same bridges, blocks of forest and villages in the map as they are in the game? PPS: I know I'm spoiled, in MSFS I never use the GPS and I use PDF maps and plates but off my 2nd monitor. In IL-2 it works great, you turn off the GPS and fly by the squares in the map.
  24. Patch 1.26 observations and comments

1.26+Hotfix make the best OFF game so far for me. Thanks, Dirk.
  25. Rabu, and even if someone adds the necessary landmarks (i.e. ingame airfields) to you your hires map there will still remain one shortcoming. You'll not be able to copy the flight plan off the briefing map. Only when you get in the game you'll be able to draw the exact flight plan on your map off the ingame pop up map board in 3D. As I said, for me the best playing solution would be the ingame, fixed, no-gps icon, pop up map. Why? - because only this map always has the exact flight plan plotted for each mission. I wish the OFF3 coder could look into this humble request. Otherwise many people will find it nice to fly with your map (after getting the flight plan from the game map). It's like in MSFS series: some like to use real paper charts and maps, some like to use the ingame add-on viewing utilities. :) Thanks.
