As you may be knowing, the Indian AF was the first export customer for the Mirage 2000. An order for 42 single seat Mirage 2000H and 7 twin seat Mirage 2000THs was placed by the GOvt of India in 1984. The H model was the export model of the single seat Mirage 2000C & TH was the export model of Mirage 2000B. A further 10 aircraft( four Hs & six THs) were acquired in 2003. Its is high likely that the 2003 twin seater acquisition was of D model. All older aiframes were fitted with refuelling probes. It has been proposed to upgrade IAF Mirage 2000s to 2000-9 standards.

The standard Su-30MK pit is the same as the Su-27's. Even the earlier Indian Su-30MKs models had SU-27's front pit configuration. -

Russo, Sometimes, I 've had trouble getting the decals to show up if the FilenameFormat line was too long. For eg.. FilenameFormat=Mirage 2000D/1sqdn_tigers/d/wingsrl <== long line so I changed it to something shorter by re-naming: FilenameFormat=Mirage 2000D/1sq_iaf/d/wsl May be in your decals.ini the *censored* a/c name is making the line too long? -

The new Darin III Jaguars carry Israeli made LDP(Litening) & Internal Jammer (EL/L-8222) as well. The initial batch of LCA Tejas will have EL/M-2032 radar.Israel is playing a huge role in India's defence needs. The MKI too carries the EL/L-8222 Jammer externally. -

NEW DELHI: Two Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi-30MKI combat jets have been sent to Russia for a retrofit that would enable them launch the aerial version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile that India and Russia have jointly developed, an official said. "The aerial version of the BrahMos missiles will be delivered from the Su-30MKI platform. We were in talks with Sukhoi and the IAF for it. Finally two Su-30MKIs of the IAF have been sent to Russia for retrofitting," a senior official of BrahMos Aerospace that manufactures the missile, told IANS, speaking on condition of anonymity. "The aerial version of BrahMos is coming along very well. After being programmed, the missile will be released from the aircraft and will auto-launch towards its target when it reaches an altitude of 50 metres," the official explained. "The aerial version is nearly nine metres long and this requires modifications of the aircraft's fuselage. Since the Sukhoi company is busy with designing a fifth generation fighter, (India's) DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) scientists, along with Russian experts, will carry out the necessary modifications," the official said. The modifications will be completed by early 2010. Once this happens, BrahMos will become a "universal cruise missile" due to its ability to be launched from land, sea - from both ships and submarines - and the air. The land and naval versions have already been inducted into service with the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. The navy has integrated anti-ship versions of the BrahMos on its warships, including INS Rajput, and is integrating it on to two other ships of the same class. The missiles will also be mounted on the three 7,000-tonne Kolkata class destroyers currently being constructed at Mumbai's Mazagon Docks. The navy had Dec 18 last year test-fired the missile from a vertical launcher on a ship in the Bay of Bengal. All earlier launches had been carried out from inclined launchers. The missile, which takes its name from the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, has a range of nearly 300 km and carries a 300 kg conventional warhead. It can achieve speeds of up to 2.8 Mach or nearly three times the speed of sound. BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited was established in India as a joint venture through an inter-governmental agreement signed between India and Russia in February 1998.

The Battle Axes.....No. 7 Sqdn Indian AF Skin WIP for Amokfloo's Mirage 2000D. Original textures by Amokfloo. -
As per reports, IAF has only chosen to upgrade 40 MiG-27Ms. Though the IAF was interested in the AL-31 option, the limited airframe upgradation clearly indicates they are not going to take AL-31 option. The rest around 80 will retire as time passes by. This upgrade would keep the upgraded 27s flying into 2020 & beyond just like the upgraded HAL Jaguar IS & IBs. The upgraded MiG-27s now have TU-XXX series srl nos. in place of earlier TS-XXX series. Using Litening LDP, the MiG-27s can drop LGBs. See the attached pdf to read about new features incorporated into Indian 27s. There was a proposal to fit IFR probe, but that too has not been implemented. Her is an old scan from an Indian aviation magazine about MiG-27UPG: HALmag_mig27.pdf

The current upgrade would keep her going until 2015 & may be a 3-4 years beyond. But only with a small number(six) of air-worthy of Sea Harriers FRS.51s,which are undergoing upgradation left, I wonder how long will the INS Viraat keep going. By 2015, The Navy would have INS Vikrant & INS Vikramaditya as its two a/c carriers.
