  1. All are feared dead Rest in peace.
  2. AN-32 induction started in 1984. Upgradation of the fleet was proposed but no action was taken. The first An-32 crash took place on 22 March 1986 killing 17 on board. Three days later, an An-32(K-2729) on ferry flight from Russia to India crashed in the Arabian Sea. In that crash, US Navy ships were out in force searching the same area without revealing why(rumours had it then that it was MAC with an USN a/c). An-32 was also involved in a freak accident during the mid 90s. There was case of the navigator getting sucked out when his bubble window gave way. As the navigator wasn't wearing the chute (case in most of transport a/c), it resulted in the fatality. This was when the a/c was enroute to Leh from Chandigarh. Two An-32s were lost in a MAC during a paradrop exercise in 1992. In 1999 near the Indo-Pak border in Kashmir, an AN-32 was hit by a Pakistani stinger which resulted in loss of one engine, it made a safe landing however.
  3. Nope, it crashed in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
  4. May their souls rest in peace. The last IAF An-32 crash was in 1990. IT may take some time to find the wreckage since it is believed to have crashed in thick jungles in bad weather.
  5. I know how you must have felt. My kid brother, who is 24 years old, had kidney stone problem last year. He is an engineer with the Merchant Navy. He had this problem while his ship, an oil tanker, was enroute from New Zealand to India. For 10-12 days on the voyage, he was in severe pain. He said the pain got unbearable sometimes. None of the crew could do anything to help him. He was on painkillers. He could not sleep on the bed, only sleeping on the bare floor in his room helped him a bit. It got so worse that the used to faint sometimes. he was lucky that he did not faint when he was working with the heavy machinery in the engine room. Getting up, he would not know how he got there. He used to get blood in his urine. While there were thoughts of evacuating him from the ship on a helicopter when they neared Malaysia, he himself said no as he felt the pain reduced a bit. Once he reached India, we had tests conducted which confirmed that he had kidney stone. Eventually with medicines and a little bit of traditional Indian medicine helped him recover from it without any operation.

  7. IAF Statement: The first of the three Indian Air Force AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) platform arrived in India from Israel today. The giant IL-76 configured in its new avatar was escorted by three Mig-29 and Jaguar aircraft each that took off from an advance fighter airbase of South Western Air Command (SWAC). The fighter formations caught up with the AWACS mid-air and escorted it as it entered the Indian FIR (Flight Information Region), till safe touchdown at the Jamnagar airbase, close to midday, today. Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SWAC, Air Marshal KD Singh, Air Defence Commander Air Vice Marshal P Singh and the AOC Jamnagar, Air Commodore C Hari Kumar and air warriors of the airbase welcomed the crew of the AWACS aircraft that included the Commanding Officer of the first AWACS squadron, Group Captain B Saju. Their maiden touchdown on Indian soil also marks the first landing of the AWACS in an IAF airbase. "It was a great feeling to be escorted by our fighters and it feels really good to be back", said Group Captain B Saju upon arrival. Flown by a full complement of IAF pilots belonging to the newly formed squadron from Ovda International airport, located in southern Israel, the aircraft undertook an eight-and-a-half hour's flight skirting around several countries taking the aerial route over the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea before landing at Jamnagar. The aircraft is slated to arrive at Palam airport tomorrow where an induction ceremony is scheduled on May 28. The AWACS are slated to operate from the Agra airbase under Central Air Command and frenetic preparations ahead of its first arrival to join the extended fleet of the IL-76 family are complete.

  9. Don't even try as there will be some Angry Fulcrums waiting for you :threaten: This is me flying over my hometown on the map. As Wrench said, there's a place for me from where I begin my quest for world domination
  10. yeah , the same K-36DM ejection seats.
  11. The aircraft belonged to No.30 Sqdn "Rhinos". The sqdn was undergoing its annual DASI(Directorate of Air Staff Inspection) and Wg Cdr Narah was the inspector. The ill fated Su was a part of a four aircraft formation which was flying at 20,000 feet when suddenly the aircraft started oscillating wildly and the a/c went into an uncontrollable spin pointing to some structural failure. I swear by our dear dog, Ma, I am safe: officer on crashed Sukhoi

  18. How about a good detailed MiG-23BN? The last flying MiG-23BN in the world - tail no. SM-273 flew into history just recently.
  19. Yeah, that's right. No way US would have allowed to manufacture a US built engine. But now the present day situation is completely different. The P-8I, USS Trenton & C130J were ordered during President Bush's reign. But with President Obama in power, who knows? New restrictions? Further improvment/decline in Indo-US relations? I think it was the cost of the a/c that made the IAF reject it, probably EF-2000 would go down as well. If the current govt remains in power after the next elections, I bet it would either be F-16 or F-18 that will be selected. P-8I & C-130J were selected without any competition. The RFP for 22 Attack helicopters were cancelled to give more time to Boeing & Bell. Read this: http://www.livefist.blogspot.com/
  20. Hi Mike, Good to see you around
  21. Apparently the MiG-29K's RD-33MK Sea Wasp engines don't smoke as much as early MiG-29 engines.
