That's pretty cool! Is it strictly sidestick? Have you ever thought about some sort of pull out platform to allow it to switch to center stick? -
Disable windows 10 auto updates?
DoctorQuest replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
There has got to be a better way..... Disabling the service also prevents you from doing manual updates. I'm ok with re-enabling the service to do that but it's not very user friendly. Stupid Microsoft........ -
Disable windows 10 auto updates?
DoctorQuest replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Not as straightforward as with previous Windows but you can try this. Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Administrative Tools > Service then disable the "Windows Update" service. To disable the service, double click on the line containing the "Windows Update" service. That will open a panel with a dropdown box with the status. Selected "disabled" and click ok. I will try in on my wife's windows 10 pc and let you know. -

Is there anywhere else I can download mods from?
DoctorQuest replied to Kermanint's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I don't consistently visit a lot of websites. CA is one that I do. I would carefully choose your 6 downloads a day. I don't know if there is a size limit but there are some fantastic mods like Desert Storm and NATO Fighters that will keep you very busy and include a lot of content in one download. I concur with others on looking over the Knowledge Base. You will want to know how to build modded installs, for instance. -
I think this is the key point...... Please be aware that you cannot use the free upgrade offer to perform a clean install on first attempt. You must first upgrade from the qualifying version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 (whether you do it through Windows Update or using the .ISO file). Ensure the upgrade is completed successfully and then ensure that it is activated. You can then proceed to do a clean install by using recovery media or using the Reset function in Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC (Get Started). I, too, am going to wait a bit. My wife's new laptop came with Win 10 so I have an install to get familiar with.

What a riot! Thanks for the story and your un-jet-pilot-like honesty. The only vaguely similar experience I've had is my flight in a T-6 Texan. (OH. THAT'S WHAT PULLING g'S REALLY FEELS LIKE. ) Thanks for sharing, FC.

Disregard for the moment. I may have found the issue. Need to do some further research. -

Duh. Sorry. I forgot about the WW2 weapons pack. That would certainly make it easier... I stand corrected. Thanks, Wrench. -

I would recommend taking a look at the knowledge base for SF2 maybe starting with this.... http://combatace.com/topic/44031-guide-to-converting-old-weapons-from-the-strike-fighters-1-series-to-the-new-plug-and-play-weapons-for-the-strike-fighters-2-series-by-migbuster/ Converting weapons from SF1 to SF2 is doable but it is not simply a matter of tweaking a few INI files. I agree you might want to take it to the experts at the A-team. -
OK. I'm in. Thanks for the heads up on this. In case anyone does not know. PE is available for a song at gog.com.

I ran across an article by some guy named Tom Kratman. The article is called "Training for War." I don't know the guy's background but this statement really hit me the wrong way. (Italics are mine.) "It would be nice to be able to say that everything here will apply as much to women as to men. Sadly, I’d be lying if I said I believed that. I don’t. I do believe that it might, if we approached the subject of women in combat with half a grain of sense (see, e.g., my previous article for Baen, The Amazon’s Right Breast, as well as my novel, The Amazon Legion). But c’mon, that’s not going to happen, not with the PC lunatics having control of the keys to the asylum. What I rather expect to happen, though, is that woman are going to volunteer to stay away from combat arms in huge and overwhelming numbers, that most of those very few who do go combat arms will be – shall we say, charitably – a bit on the masculine side, and that they might well become just one of the guys, with as much interest in, say, chasing girls are any male grunt, ever." I have never served myself (for good or ill) but I know there are others here that have. That being said, I have had the honor of meeting some service women and, um, I got a MUCH better impression of them than Mr. Kratman. My impression is that women have wanted to serve for years and for many of the same reason as men. Sense of duty, love of country, a chance to better themselves... Thoughts?
