I started working on these a year ago (ALREADY? Time flies!) I had put this aside because I'm getting old and my memory isn't as reliable over the 16 years since we retired our Phabulous Phantoms. I recently ran into a trove of photos of our birds, so I can now sith some dgree of exactness reproduce all 24.,,(+) F-4Es that we had in the 163rd TFS. I say plus because a couple of the birds have alternate histories from the rest. A couple of pics (I wanted to post them with Pave Spike and GBUs but I didn't take any pics with that loadout....yet ). The Wing Boss's bird A couple of the other birds

The Mighty F-4
drdoyo replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When my unit retired them in 1991 there was little need for CCIP. Our main purpose was laser bombing. We used Pave Spike. Some of our aircraft were readied and crews and support personell were almose activated for Deseert Storm, but the ground war was already moving too fast and it was decided that our lasers weren't needed after all, or actually that there wouldn't be time to get us there . -
For those still thinking about it, here are some more. These were taken after I installed Reflections on the water with the exception of the first. Dive Dive Dive Heading out from Freemantle to drop supplies to the Phillippine resistance This is how you get 23 tonnes of supplies from submarine to shore The get away XO, it's time to take her down Beauty Shot ...USS Balao SS-285 Is it real, or is it a game? I'm loving it!! That last pic however does not do the game justice, You have to see the moving water to believe it. Totally Awesome!!!!

Ahh, the 60's. Dateline Cuba, OTC. Poor quality missiles and no gun. What's an aggressive fighter pilot to do when the last missile sold to the Navy by the lowest bidder leaves the rail and goes dumb while he's surrounded by Cuban Migs? ......throw stones, ot the next best thing. Those big long things under the outer wings have been dry for some time, they're useless...... or are they? Death by Drop Tank Yeah, I know you can't see the tanks but the damage to the nose was from the MiG exploding. I was a bit surprised it actually worked

Well FC, My $.02 is that a model and textures are a start for now. Once the game engine is modified by TK to allow better resemblance to performance than two of the steps are already done. I guess I have a "Don't put off till tomorrow what you could accomplish while waiting today" attitude. And THANKS for your weapons work, it's greatly appreciated!!!! P.S. We all knew when we bought our copies that this isn't F4AF, or Janes FA-18

Morskaya Aviatsiya ([soviet]Naval Air Service) MiG-29K Fulcrum WIP. The skin is pretty much ready to go. I'm moving into the ini editing phase for weapons and avionics. Time and permissions permitting this could be a new addition to the Fulcrum family. If not a full release, there seems to be enough interest for a skin release, and whoever wants to can edit their own ini's. As SayWhat?! said, to be visable a hook has to be modeled which I am unable to do, but it does have a fully functioning hook and indicator light through ini editing. Some more work I've done, for my game is I've added the Soviet Navy as a nation like their American and British counterparts in the series. I've even added the ranks for Campaign. For those of you who are tweaking ini's as well and may not have done this yet here is my Nations ini entry. If you want to run a Campaign, the Navy aircraft must have "Nation=SOVIETNAVY" in aircraft's entry in the campaign_data.ini [NationXXX] Name=SOVIETNAVY DisplayName=Soviet Morskaya Aviatsiya Alignment=ENEMY PlayerFlyable=TRUE PilotNameList=NamesRussian.lst RankList=RanksRussianNavy.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=SovietFighter Formation.Attack=SovietFighter Formation.Bomber=SovietBomber Formation.Transport=SovietBomber Formation.Tank=SovietTank Formation.MobileAD=SovietAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 DebriefSuccessMusic=DebriefSuccess.wav DebriefFailMusic=DebriefFail.wav DebriefKilledMusic=DebriefKilled.wav SpeechFile=USAFSpeech.cat SpeechTextFile=USAFSpeechText.cat Medals=MedalsUSN.ini MedalTextFile=MedalsUSN.str and the Soviet Navy ranks list (RanksRussianNavy.lst) which goes in the flight folder [FullName] Lieutenant Senior Lieutenant Captain Lieutenant Captain (3rd rank) Captain (2nd rank) Captain (1st rank) Counter Admiral Vice Admiral Admiral Admiral of the Fleet [shortName] LT Sr LT CAPT LT CAPT 3-go CAPT 2-go CAPT 1-go KONTR ADM VADM ADM ADM FLOTA

Anyone want to buy a Dog Sabre
drdoyo replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
$20,000, ....I spent more than that which I didn't have on my pilot's liscence and rateings. Unfortuunately that means that I still don't have the minimum 20k. .....Quick one of you millionairs buy it so no one gets any fancy ideas of expending it as a drone -
Well, these aren't my "most" damaged flyables, but these I did have screens of. I don't remember how, but I lost the nose gear while conducting early skin/weapon/and flight testing of my Su-33 upgrade for the Su-27. A more interesting situation occured during a VF-103 campaign mission in the Final Dawn campaign. I was conducting a fighter sweep and had engaged an enemy flight of bombers. I was regrouping my flight after the engagment when I saw a Mig-29 yards in front at my altitude on an almost recriprical course.....almost. Before I could react my tomcat shuddered, there was an explosion and warning lights lit on the instrument panel. Once I emerged from the debris and regained control I took stock of the situation. The MiG was totally wiped out, and the screens show the carnage wrought upon my tomcat. ....The end of the campaign for Victory 201, She wasn't repaired in time to continue serving.

Decal Level looks good to me, with the exception of decals 9 and 10. Assuming those are squadron markings they should be DecalLevel=1. I don't think that is your problem though. I agree with Sony Tuckson. If you only have 11 decals and the game engine is looking for decal075 for that particular aircraft then nothing will show. You can over-ride this in single mission by manually assigning each aircraft the specific tailcode decal assuming you have a numberlist.ini in the skin's folder. Campaign is a different story. AFIK thee is no way to regulate tailnumbers in campaign short of having decal000 through decal099. Check out my USN Modex pack, and my Flanker skins, for examples of what I'm saying. I started the Modex numbers for the very reason of the way the campaign engine uses aircraft numbers. Hope this helps.

Hmm, lets look at this logically "Middle East" .... WOME - Too long and doesn't fit current 3 letter abbreviation pattern "Dead Sea"........WODS - Same as above, and sounds slightly offensive "Red Sea" .........WORS - Same as above, but has the right idea if only misspelled "Sand Box" .......WOSB - Same as above, and doesn't feel very catchy "Bin Lauden" .....WOBL <------- THIS is what Weebles do, and they don't fall down!!!! Sorry guys....couldn't resist. -

practice more Dave! I just hope it expands on the avonics.dll's to more modern standards so we can play with some of the toys the modders have been taunting us with for ages -

Wingman/Flight/Squadern AI
drdoyo replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What I do is this for intercepts, sweeps, and TARCAP. 1) on takeoff, fly straight until #3 calls airborne (if you have at least 4 planes in your division/flight) before turning to WP1. 2) Continue towards WP1 until #4 calls airborne and switch to the objective WP (usually WP5). Then order all divisions and your wingman to return to formation. 3) Fly towards WP5 at 63% thrust (AC where AB engages at 70%) until your element/division of 2/4 is formed up then go to AB at no more than 93% thrust. I've found power settings any higher than 63% / 93% causes the AI wingmen to fall behind. For some reason AI won't use full power. 4) Turn your radar on to maximum search range and target enemy flights as Red Crown calls them until you target your primary target flight.....then DON'T change targets. 5) Run an intercept until you are in weapon range and fireing parameters- ......basically try to mentally picture the spacial relationship of yourself, your primary target flight, and your objective WP. Fly somewhee between the WP and target flight, usually closer to the Objective point and NEVER directly at the target flight. If your target flight is approaching from the other side of the Objective point, it may even be better to overfly the objective point. 6) When you can shoot without wasting the shot, order your wingman to fire on your target, and you switch to the next primary target and shoot it ASAP, or best at the same tome your wingman fires. Hopefully you are still BVR. Now with the enemy flight alerted you will have to close, or waste shots. 7) Once you visually spot the target flight, order another flight, or your other element to engage air, usually they will tie up or kill the escorts allowing you to engage the rest of the target flight. -
4 skins made from Marcfighter's SU-27 tamplate ......THANKS Marcello for building the excellent Su-27 template and model!!!!! The Red Banner Northern division of the drdoyo paint dome is happy to share a look at some work I'm hoping to present early next week. These 4 skins were based on photos of Su-33s. Two are very close representations of actual aircraft. Two were inspired by less than perfect lighting in some photos. First the close representations #37 ...This was my favorite. #79 ....As this one developed in the last 2 weeks it has become my favorite Next a variation of #79 which looked at first like a 2 tone scheme due to low lighting in the photo, until I looked closer. Finally a one tone scheme from a photo of three Su-33s lined up. All three looked one tone at first, then a closer look showed a faded pattern on the two far aircraft. The nearest aircraft showed no discernable evidence of a pattern due to lighting, but may have had one. I liked it enough to paint it. # 86 .... This will be a pack of all 4 skins and two decal sets (Red numbers and Blue numbers)

Swing Wing Mirage - Heresy

I agree totally! The middle looks very similar to a MiG-23.
