Yeah NVIDIA's last two generation of cards have been the tops. I am still running an 770 GTX on an old MB with DDR2 and have no problems with any of the games I play (Battlefield 3, Lockon/DCS 3, and War Thunder.) Run them all at max settings and my FPS always stay between 30-50. I also do a lot of HD video rendering, recording, and saving. DCS gets choppy once I pile on the units (more than 20) but for the most part I have been happy. I may upgrade soon as this AMD six core seems to running at peak now days, plus I need to cross over into the new generation of memory.

Yeesh those carriers had to have been smaller than the USN's refitted Essex-class ships...and they launched and recovered F-4s and Buccaneers on those! Hats off to our UK cousins, they were the pioneers of modern naval aviation.

The Golden Years of Royal Navy Aviation
ironroad replied to ironroad's topic in Military and General Aviation
Never knew the sea vixen had such an offset cockpit. Also, anyone know if the Royal Navy's carrier-based F-4s were ever used for A/G or were they strictly air defense? One would figure that was a lot of weight to haul off those tiny decks. -
A damn shame about the water mark. Not sure why because it was a U.S. Government produced film and released to the public which means it is public domain.

AEGIS....when it absolutely must get blown out of the sky overnight

Let me guess...Vladamir Putin was the pilot. Still cool nonetheless

DCS/LOMAC Screen Shot Thread

A series of several screenshots that have been edited together to show movement... -
Most of the allied-aircrews during that time frame had specifically trained against an massive Soviet-style IADs threat with the SA-2 being an integral part of the system (although before the SA-10/20 came on the scene, I willing to guess the SA-5 was probably the feared "bad boy" of the era). Although the SA-2 is late 50s era tech and was considered obsolete by that time, it was (and still is) nothing to fool around with. An SA-2 is also what shot down an F-15E during the first night of the air war.

An originator is gone, Little Richard and Chuck Berry may take credit for "rock", but B.B. Kings early music really had an influence on the genre.

Proof that they need to retire the A-10?
ironroad posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Maybe it is not smart to base life off a game... Maybe this is just another of the thousand things that remain broken in DCS Or perhaps, based on the opinions of a few, Russian-origin equipment is the best and anything U.S. or NATO is garbage (don't airshows and video games represent real life?) But for an Mi-8 to survive AIM-9s, and three 30mm GAU-8 passes (oh and both of the A-10s get shotdown by BMP IFVs) shows IMHO that they really need to focus on fixing what is broken instead of over promising everything else. -

ironroad replied to ironroad's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I have noticed that with the Russian birds when it is AI on AI. No doubt the Russians made some though equipment that was made for the dirtiness of war, but NATO munitions either always fail to track/fuse or the AI just goes dumb. Russian munitions almost always hit home though. -

Graphics and eye candy, but no major substance behind it. There are still things (and AI behavior) that have been broken since the first Flaming Cliffs. I'm all for continued development and testing, but as of late it appears that things have shifted to window dressing. -
Irresponsible things that one does for fun in their youth

My friend in middle school, who later would become a firefighter, was freaking pyromaniac. Once, he (perhaps with some assistance) set the woods behind his house on fire using 1xmodel rocket engine, 1x can of pipe cleaner, 1xmound of dry leaves. He, allegedly, took the rocket engine had an assistant dig a small hole, placed said rocket engine in said hole, poured pipe cleaning fluid on it, and then set up the electrical charge. After a short countdown, said rocket engine fizzled, smoked, and then made a small pop. Him: "Well that was a waste of time..I'm hungry lets go back inside." Assistant: "Hey, what is that smell!?" Him: "I dunno, I don't remember it being so foggy when we came out here." My friend also found out that if you take small bottle, fill with with high octane marine gas, wrap a string of fire crackers around said bottle, then leave of trail of black powder (black powder that he gathered the previous day from cutting open shotgun shells), it will explode. And when it explodes it will rain hot flaming gas and plastic upon the earth. I'm not much of religious person, but I thank god for keeping him and assistant safe through those bone-headed times. Ohh one more thing... If you age said friend and his assistant by a few years, and gave said friend and his "assistant" driver licenses and keys to an automobile. Said friend and his "assistant" may have had a tendency to meet up with an even large group of friends after school to test their cars on the local highway after school. On one such occasion, said group of friends may have been engaged in a friendly night competition when the flash of blue and red lights dazzled their rear-view mirrors. According to one source, the group of friends allegedly decided to gun it and hide their cars at an abandoned industrial park till morning. -
Not exactly mine (*mine has a few more mods and features I personally added on and the color is a bit different) My other vehicle, used to be my daily driver. The pic is pretty close on, but I changed the exhaust, changed the rims, and added a spoiler. Now a family member drives it.

Wanted to share a screenshot print I just finished titled: Pratt Power. It was taken from MS Flight Simulator X. I had to do the heat and humidity effects by hand using GIMP. Full sized image can be found here http://ironroad.deviantart.com/art/Pratt-Power-523736209

Missed one.. and yes I'm ashamed to admit that I actually know that much about Top Gun. A few of those questions were worded incorrectly btw.

USS Independence wow, I heard some of the Forrestal-class carriers did not have blast fences for the waist cats. Anyone know?
