  1. Correct. At some point, you will need access to Max and the TW exporter to get the model into the game. Hopefully, that won't stop you from building a model using the various programmes listed. A friendly modder with Max might be the answer when it's time to get things in-game.
  2. There are a lot of freeware, cheapware modelling programmes out there. I'm still using Anim8or (supported) for basic modelling............ as it's free, reasonably simple, and will export your model. (Plus I hate 3ds Max - very clunky). Now, to get the model into the game (with animations, etc., etc.), you'll need access to 3ds Max (very expensive)............... but essentially, coming up with a decent looking model takes very little money........... just time and patience.
  3. Re: Underbody Fuel Tanks (aka bosom tanks....... apparently after Sabrina (Norma Sykes...... (see Google Image Search))) As far as I've read, they weren't drop tanks, but integral for endurance purposes. At development stages, complaints were made about fuel capacity (see contemporary British MP and USAF thoughts). Most shots of the late service marks show the Javelin with the tanks (see Maurice Allward's "Postwar Military Aircraft - Gloster Javelin")
  4. JimmyBib, Does Reading still suffer from playing host to the Butts Shopping Centre? It's been some twenty years since I was there.
  5. No, I know the leaves is an Autumn thing................. I was just pondering the various excuses that come via the platform tannoy systems.
  6. Talked to mum back in Blighty this morning. Kept going on about the snow................ as I'm looking out on a foot of the stuff that's been sitting around for weeks. Not that I'm advocating that she should go driving in the stuff. A little perspective might be in order, especially as the 'snow event' has been predicted for days. Still, it makes a change from 'The 11:43 from Ashbury St Trinians has been delayed due to leaves on the line' routine.
  7. ....... then again, watched L'pool take out Chelsea today, so perhaps they'll give Old Trafford's crew a run for the money.
  8. In a desperate attempt to get away from the likes of Stiglr. But seriously........... my parents dropped me off, thinking it was the orphanage.
  9. Indeed! It would be nice to have Karel Doorman with her complement of Sea Hawks!
  10. Actually, the Melbourne was the first iteration of my 'put-together' for Gramps. All I did for the De Mayo was fiddle with the funnel!.............. so Melbourne would be a better stand-in.
  11. Well, the ship in that thread is a repaint of the ARA 25 de Mayo (which was a quick put-together for Gramps, based on my knackered, old Albion/Bulwark model (which should really be sent out to pasture........ being largely wrong)). In other words, HMCS Bonaventure doesn't really exist. One of my long term projects is a Colossus class ship, which, with various modifications, could stand in for various carriers.
  12. Working on Hermes (slowly, but steadily......... mainly on the island at the mo') Other things in the works: Type 21 frigate Des Moines Class cruiser HMS Terror (RN monitor) long term (started): HMS Vanguard (last RN battleship) Graf Spee (pocket battleship) Colossus Class carrier HMS Centaur ..and then some rebuilds (time permitting.........i.e., long term): Ark Royal Eagle (60's version) Victorious (but I see Skippy might have that in the works. I was going to take my old thing apart and work with a far better plan).
  13. Looks like Liverpool won't be winning the Premiership. Watched them draw against Wigan tonight, and frankly Wigan deserved the draw. Yossi Benayoun was just about the only inspiring thing about L'pool's performance. Not sure why Keene is even part of the club. Might as well shift back to Spurs. Man U all the way.
  14. You would be correct Sir. Coming to a scenario near you.................... when she finds the paint shop!
  15. WAG's..................... we're not talking about the wives and girlfriends of the England football team are we?....................... As for Stiglr............. the dustbin of history is probably the best place. He can use the darkness to practice Targetware night operations.
  16. What gets me about Stiglr is his refusal to accept the concept of sim-lite. I'm sure all of us are aware of TW game limitations, but he chooses to deny the concept's existence. All fruits must be oranges and that apple there is merely an orange in a poor disguise............. and makes decidedly poor marmalade. As for Targetware................ I've been to a few sites and things look pretty moribund, but perhaps someone can correct me (perhaps the great man himself).
  17. For a minute there, I thought you were referring to the Blues and Royals. My great-great grandfather spent much time performing guard duty at Windsor Castle. Carry on.
  18. As of now, there is no working 'ball' for TW games. Would be a nice feature I admit (along with added flight deck activity). Trying to land at night is pretty much guess work and using 'F' keys.
  19. Very nice work!
  20. Yes, those old ships required lines be added to the GroundObjectData.ini file (I think that was it). Anyway, that's no longer needed............... the config files now sit in the particular ship folders. I've just never got around to updating those ships.
  21. Watched Burnley almost beat Spurs yesterday. Tottenham really are dire these days. ManU will take them apart at Wembley.
  22. Storm, I read a few things at various sites and discovered, for some reason, that my screen resolution (1280x1024) won't stick........... instead I have to use 1280x960 (I think). Bizarre, but it seems to work....... and the game accepts the setting. It's worth the effort as the game is tremendous, although the ins and outs of the campaign leave me a little confused at times.............. plus I'm crap in the stupendous aerial scraps, what with 50+ planes diving and weaving around. I spend most of my time just looking around trying to work out what the hell is going on. Suffice to say, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes over the white cliffs in real life.
  23. Two things. The Defiant might have been crap as designed, but she proved to be useful as a night fighter later on. Also, although the FAA Blackburn Roc proved to be a waste of time (with similar Defiant turret), her 'sister' plane, the Skua was decent enough to dive bomb and sink the German light cruiser Koenigsburg in 1940. Not too shabby.
