I wonder how much western equipment Iran "really" still has operational. I know that several photos and propoganda videos have shown F-14s and F-4s still flying but I'm still sceptical about the threat their F-14s pose to any USAF or USN F-15 F-18 or F-22. I know Soviet and Chinese assistance has helped with keeping Iranian weapons operational, but all assistance from the USA and Israel with Iran's western military equipment ended around 30 years ago. Either way I know no not even a IRIAF Mig-29 or Mirage F1 would pose a major threat. I say we deal with this situation ASAP!

Newer weapons for series 1?
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I was wondering if anything new is on the drawing board for series 1 games in terms of weapons. Types like the GBU-54 and GBU-38v3 such as in "The Mirage Factory F-16C Block 25/30/32/40/42/50/52" pack for SF2 would be nice to have for series 1 as well. Just wondering Thanks -
Invisble SF2 Planes In SF1 Series

Which planes are you reffering to specifically? -
Fighter Pilot definitely is the best book ever on an aerial combat legend! Robin Olds was one of the greatest leaders ever and there will never be another like him. Thanks for the photos Dave, is this a new exhibit? I've been to the NMUSAF twice but can't recall seeing these artifacts. I recognize Olds' F-4C though in the background. Great Photos!

Problem after installing campaign editor and mission editor
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well basically the problem is when I try to start SF2 since installing the mission editor released yesterday, and the campaign editor from august one annoying problem always happens. As soon as I start the game I get a pop-up message from my taskbar saying that "The color scheme has been changed to windows 7 basic" and as soon as the game starts the image of the main screen is all fuzzy (I'm not a graphics wiz so sorry for using simple terms). Anyway I tried restarting my computer and installing the latest driver for my graphics card, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure how or if this is directly related to the two recent installs I performed but it happened right after I did this. Thanks to anybody who might have an idea why this is happening! -

Yeah it also happened when I installed the OCT. patch. However I restarted my computer and it worked fine until I installed the editors. -
Does AI often fire SAHM or Active Missiles?
warthog64 replied to meade95's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It might have something to do with what the enemy skill level is set at. If it is set at easy or normal try changing it to hard, this will definitely make the AI aircraft more aggresive and a plane like the MIG-31 should definitely employ SAHM and AHM weapons. Also if you are carrying capable ECM equipment in your aircraft this will make it hard for an AI aircraft to target you with radar weapons, especially from long range. Not sure if this will do the trick or not, but it definitely has worked for me over the years. Good luck -

Mission incomplete
warthog64 replied to smithcorp's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I have found that to kill a bridge you have to be very precise, which means you have to put the bomb directly where the red diamond is. Other targets like hangars or fuel tanks don't require this much precision to be accepted as destroyed, but for some reason the span that must be dropped on a bridge is marked by the red diamond. Good Luck! -
Anyone else like this idea?

I was just thinking today that it would be really cool to have a campaign in either SF1 or SF2 that is based on "Defense of the Reich" in WWII. Flying for both the Luftwaffe and RAF/USAAF. I know that there are already all the aircraft, and terrains needed for this and I just thought I'd see what others think about it. I am definitely not a modder or campaign creator, so I will not be the one making something like this, but maybe one of the great modders on on this website will like this idea. Thanks Everyone! -
Thanks for sharing! I loved the Discovery Wings Channel, it's too bad none of these classic programs are on DVD. I'm a big fan of the Military Channel as well, but these Discovery Wings shows will always be my favorite.

I've also always thought a Normandy campaign would also be interesting. -

Definitely in WWII, I think accuracy is always the best. Very Cool! -
1. I believe it had to be sometime in the 1960's when concerning just the USAF and not the USAAF. There were at least ten types of fighters and interceptors in service during this decade, as well as four types of bombers, at least five types of transports, I believe at least three types of helicopters, three FAC aircraft, four trainer aircraft types, four reconnaissance types, and numerous other types as well. As far as which exact year of the 60's Im not yet sure. 2. I've seen photos of the F-105 carrying a twin rail AIM-9 adapter, here is a link to a website that has proof of the F-105's ability to carry two AIM-9s each on its outer pylons. http://www.burrusspt...05ordnance.html just click the external stores info link in the top left. 3. Wrench is exactly right, the AIM-4 was carried by all these types. The USAF used the AIM-4 on its F-4's from 1967 to 1972 because the AIM-4 was the USAF equivalent of the AIM-9 and was used on all other types of USAF fighters and therefore it made since to arm the F-4 with them due to familiarity USAF pilots and groundcrew already had with the AIM-4, and it was in greater supply. The AIM-9 was developed by the USN to equip the F-4B and in USAF service the AIM-9's used by the F-4C in 1965-67 over Vietnam, were just USN designed AIM-9B's delivered with the USAF's F-4C's which were basically F-4B's with limited modifications. Once the F-4D entered service, as this type was the first USAF designed variant it was intended to carry the existing USAF infra-red missile the AIM-4. The AIM-4 was not intended to be carried externally, and therefore it did not perform well on the F-4D/E, due to it's sensitive guidance systems, and its complicated firing process made it hard to use in a dogfight. Add this to the AIM-4's hit-to-kill only capability, and you have the missile who's performance in Vietnam was in legenadary Brig. Gen. Robin Olds' words, "As Useless as Tits on a Boar Hog".

What films U would like to see made
warthog64 replied to carrick58's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have always wanted to see a show specifically focusing on the P-47 groups of the 9th AF in WWII. There have been many shows about the 8th AF and mostly just about P-51s, and I've always wanted to see more about the other groups, and pilots that flew the P-47 and as a Fighter Bomber in the 9th AF. A show about F-80s and F-84s in Korea would be interesting too! -
