Which is your favorite terrain ?
Gepard replied to Sokol's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The key factors for me are realism (of target placement and air defence network), playability and of course the theatre. My favorits for playing are "Battle of Brittain terrain" and "Baltic Entrance". -
"missionchance" parameter
Gepard replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The sum of all MissionChance values must be 100. It means 100% of all missions. The meaning of one parameter is how many % of missions will be flown in this type of mission. For instance 10 means 10% of all missions. You have 70 + 90 + 80 + 60 + 50 + 0 + 50 + 0 + 30 + 30 = 460% The game engine see following tasks: Fly in 70% of all missions as SWEEP, then fly 90% of all missions as CAP, then fly 80 missions as INTERCEPT and so on. No wonder that its gone mad and makes what it wants. It are impossible tasks. -
The Helgoland class was not one of the most modern ships. They were average during WW1. Modern were Kaiser-, König- or Derfflinger-class ships

V-VS 72th GvIAP MiG-15 Korean War(Nov 1950)
Gepard replied to regula50's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
The soviet pilots in Korea used north korean insignias. The 72th guards fighters spent some time in China to defend chinese cities and industrial areas against "nationalchinese" (taiwanese) airstrikes. During that periode the planes used the paint scheme which you uploaded and chinese insignias. With entry in Korea War the insignias were changed into northkorean. -
One correction. The name of the ship was "SMS Ostfriesland". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_Ostfriesland

Thats true. The second story, that claimed, that a Su-15 pilot caused the crash of the MiG-15UTI flown by Gagarin is doubtful too. Leonow tells this story again and again, sometimes it was a wildgone Su-7, then a pair of MiG-21, an unnamed prototyp of a new combat plane or now a Su-15. The most simple answer is that Gagarins MiG-15UTI was a victim of the "valoshka" (an unexpected plane rolling or wing drop) with entry in a spin. And Gagarin was unable to recover from spin. Thats it.

The articles are more then doubtful and one-sided. The story of Su-15 vs Viggen is bullshit. Sorry to say that. The swedish pilots were not trigger happy. A violation of swedish air space ended normaly with the order to the ambassador to come in the swedish foreign office to recieve a letter of complain. Not with dogfight. So it happend twice, when east german MiG's violated swedish airspace and were intercepted by Drakens. In dogfight the Viggen should be superior to the Su-15. The 15 was a pure interceptor with minor dogfight capabilities.

Campaign mission take off time question
Gepard replied to Peregrine333's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
in a campaign data.ini you find following lines: NormalMissionRate=0.5 NormalMissionRateDeviation=0 OffensiveMissionRate=0.1 OffensiveMissionRateDeviation=0 as smaller the values as more often a mission is flown per day. ...missionrate=1 means one mission per day -
Letztes Wochende in Naumburg (Sachsen-Anhalt). Echt toll gelaufen. Prima integrierte zukünftige Fachkräfte.

A stupid question for Korean War buffs
Gepard replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The best answer i got is, that it had something to do with the engine change. The rear section could be removed. The stripes are placed at the position, where the tail should placed on the caddy (hope this is the correct english term). By the way, at the MiG-15, 17 and 21, the tail section could be removed too, but there were no such markings. -
A stupid question for Korean War buffs
Gepard replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I really dont know, for what the stripes were used. But i will ask this question in a german air forum. Surely there are specialists who know the answer. -
Ground objects issue
Gepard replied to Marat's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What is the NationName=? Afghanistan or Soviet? Anyway, for Afghanistan it would be better to have a single installation. It has something to do with the nations.ini To have Afghanistan terrain working properly all nations, without Afghanistan, are friendly, even the soviets are friendly. -
I'm sick of this islamic fanatism!

Nice model. But one remark. It is not the Junkers J.1 it is the Junkers J.I The "I" was read in two ways, first as roman written "1", second as big "i" which stands for "Infanterieflugzeug" This was the J.1 and this the J.I

To this subject i want to tell a short story. It reminds me on an anti-mole-crusade during my military time. But be warned: DO NOT IMITATE! DO NOT TRY THIS! It was in summer 1989, when the commander of the helicopter squadron, where i served out my time, was very angry to see the grassland of the airfield (only the take off places, rollways and parking spaces were covered by concrete) was doted over and over with molehills (hope this is the correct english term). So he gave out the order to flatten all molehills to a fistfull of technicians of the squadron. I, as member of the staff, was part of the anti-mole-task-force. Surely the commander had had in mind, that we would go to the airfield, armed with shouvels, spades and rakes and would flatten the molehills. But this was an officers idea. What means nonsense! The anti-mole-task-force consited entirely of Seargents, what means, real smart guys and we knew from first moment, that the idea of the commander was rubbish. Of course we could flatten the molehills, but how effective it would be? The mole would LOL at us and as fast as we could flatten the molehills, he would form new ones. So it was clear, we must kill all moles at the airfield first. The weapon of our choice was gas. Propane gas. Two of us were sent to the barracks cantine to "organize" a propane gasbottle, which was in east germany a very massive red colored steel bottle. One other guy was sent to the armoury to "organize" an electrical remoted fuse. Of course it was easy for sergeants to organize everything and so we had all we needed very fast. The propane was filled into a molehole, what needed some time. Then we waited a while, that the propane could spread into the mole tunnel network. Then we set in the fuse. One called: "Achtung Sprengung!" (Fire in the hole!"), pressed the button and then we saw, how the earth jumped into the air, where the moletunnels were situated. It was impressive. (It seemed to be that we luckily reached the optimal stoichiometric ratio of propane and air.) And then we saw, how the exlosion into the tunnels were racing toward the fuel storage. "Ach Du Scheiße!" (Holy sh*t!), was our common outcry. Than we started to run, to prevent what could prevented. Of course we were to slow, the fire in the mole tunnels was much faster than we could run. But then we were very lucky. Some meters before reaching the fuel storage the firestorm into the moletunnels was over. All of the gas was burned. Nothing happend with the fuel storage. Luck. Simply luck. Could have had a bad ending. And how we would have explaned if, if we would had explode our fuel storage during our anti-mole-war? Dont know. But one good end it had, there were no moles left after our anti-mole-crusade. I want to say it again: DO NOT IMITATE! DO NOT TRY THIS!

Deja vue.

Strangely painted buildings ans trange trees.
Gepard replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
There is something wrong with the picture file, which contains the painting of the TODs. Try a reinstallation of the mod. -
Nice to see our old MiG's in action again.

The attack in St. Petersburg was made by a guy from Kirgistan, who was influenced by radical islamists. The attack in Stockholm was made by a guy from Usbekistan, who was influenced by radical islamists. In free societies the radical islamists take the freedom of religon, but they are not willing to accept, that this freedom is not only for muslims, but for all, even for the folks who dont believe in any god. You can give tolerance only to tolerant people. You cant give tolerance to intolerant people. You must be intolerant to the intolerant people.

Mig-21Z
Gepard replied to yunped's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
It looks like a stealth design for the MiG-21. Okay. But, why it has double tail fins? This tail fins should increase the agility at high angle of attack flights. But at the MiG-21 the air intake is to small, that you cant fly out the maximum possible performance of the wing design, because you get compressor stalls caused by to less airflow. Then the stabilisation fins under the tail. It are nice radar reflectors. Also completly contrary to the stealth design. -
Its a really good joke. The F-15 is an expensive to operate plane. Each hour of flight costs so much, that the said nations would have a nice fleet of planes, which they were unable to operate, because they could not pay for the fuel and maintenance. The baltic states have no Air Forces, not because they not want to have one, but they cant pay for it. Its simply to expensive. If the USA would have to offer a plane in size and low cost approach like the F-5E Tiger in former times, it would be (perhaps) different, but at the moment no american (and west european) warplane fits to the finance power of the baltic states. Perhaps the Baltics could buy a low cost fighter from China or South Korea. And to be honest, The Czech Republic and Poland too, are also not able to bring all the money together which is neccessary to operate one single squadron of F-15s.

This New Plane Looks Interesting...
Gepard replied to PFunk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
A plane, that works in WoX world will work in SF2 world too. By the way, a KAI T-50 (FA-50 or T-X call it what you want) would be a cool new plane for WoX and SF2.
