DACM Loadouts for MiG-29 and Su-27?
Gepard replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
For training the MiG's had so called "Schreiberraketen". I dont know a correct english translation. They were white and had 3 or 4 black stripes. The outer shape of this devices was like a missile without fins and rocket engine. As example here a rare shot of an east german MiG-23ML with this training missiles for R-23 and R-60. -

SF Project-1 VS SF2: Should I Keep Project-1?
Gepard replied to RIBob's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SFP1 and WoX are better on older computers and WindowsXP. SF2 and old computers with less RAM are a bad idea. Loading of a mission needed up to 5 minutes. -
This is an urban myth. Westberlin with 3 allied airfields was inside east german airspace. From a soviet or east german airfield to West Berlin it was a very short distance. It was impossible to fill up the plane fueltanks with so less fuel, that is was unable to reach West Berlin. From soviet airfields like Brandis or Köthen it were less than 150 km (less than 100 miles) to West Berlins Gatow airbase. And by the way, do you remember the crash of a soviet MiG-23ML in Belgium 1989? The plane came from the soviet base at Kolobreg (Kolberg) in Poland. And it had fuel enough to fly to Belgium. But end of OT. As far as i have understood the russian media correctly, the flight leader of the MiG-31 formation decided to extend the mission. He streched it to the maximum limits and thought, that the fuel status would be enough for this extra tour. A little miscalculation and the flight needed an emergency airstrip. Ussinsk was the closest airfield and this was used.

Kuril Islands 1.0 ***************************************************** This terrain is written for SF2. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I. Short description: This terrain covers the Kurils islands, a small group of islands which were conquered by the soviets in September 1945 from Japan. There is also a small part of the japanese island of Hokkaido. This terrain is made for carrier ops in primary. You may fly ground based planes too. There are two small japanese airfields and 3 soviet airfields. The soviets deployed an aray of SAM sites over the islands of Kunashir and Iturup. To run this terrain you need SF2NA and one of these: SF2I or SF2E. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II. INSTALLATION: Unzip all files into your saved game folder ...ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2NorthAtlantic /terrain folder. Because IcelandNA terrain does not include all neccessary objects to run this terrain properly you need to link it to an other terrains CAT file. From stock the terrain is prepared to link with SF2 Israel If you dont have SF2I you must open the file kurilen.ini with Windows notepad editor. Look for the lines: CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat //CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat //CatFile=..\VIETNAMSEA\VietnamSEA.cat //CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat Add // in front of CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat to switch ot off. Then remove // at one of the other lines. Which you should remove depends on which SF2 game you still have installed side by side with SF2 North Atlantic. Save it. Thats it. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III. Credits. The TOD's, what means the trees and autogenerated houses on the map, are mostly taken from various tilesets made by Stary. The SAM protection walls are taken from Pureblues AirfieldDevKit. They were originaly made by Sundowner. The basic files for the taxiways, parking areas and quais are made by ErikGen. I hope i have not forgotten someone. . ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV. This Terrain is Freeware. Commercial use is not allowed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V. For remarks, comments, bugs, etc please use CombatAce forum or send me a PM. Hope you enjoy it. Geplant schon.

How do I write a campaign?
Gepard replied to JosefK's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
In SF1 generation Knowledgebase you find a little bit about campaign building. For SF2 it is more or less the same. You should start to modify an existing campaign. But make only minor steps. Perhaps try to include a new playable air force. A short tutorial how to do this you will find here: https://combatace.com/forums/forum/193-creatingmodding-campaigns/- 4 replies

It seems to be, that it was common on US carriers to give planes, that landed on the wrong carrier a special paintshop. Some say it had be done during Vietnam War too.

i got swimming tanks here
Gepard replied to one4five's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
True, but with SF2NA carrier ops are available. The position of the ship groups a generated randomly in a defined area. But sometimes the ship groups appear outside of the defined areas. -

In game the tanks are driving over the water. They do not swim. A tanks that swims looks like these: or that and so it looks if a BMP-1 force is advancing a water obstacle : -

Gepard replied to one4five's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
So it is. If a waypoint in the movement.ini is set on the wrong place tanks and truck go over the water and ships sail over land. But: With the ships on land it can be a bug too. With Carrier groups it can happen, but this has nothing to do with the movement.ini. -
1 mission campaign?
Gepard replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
My 2cents. A campaign is finished if the campaigns target is achieved. That means, that the enemy or the friendly BaseArea is captured by the other side. If there is a mismatch between the campaign and the terrain map in the kind, that the BaseArea is not a target area, then the game engine decides, that the campaign is over. I would check, wheter there is a target area in the map with the same name as the BaseArea in the campaign.
