  1. That much is true. My high altitude sciences are a bit rusty... Nonetheless, though, I think we all know it's a ridiculous stunt.
  2. Heh, I remember reading about this on BBC...the line that stuck out the most was "it's pretty simple; if the suit fails, I die". Isn't there something inherently stupid, and awesome, about trying to break the speed of sound? Even at an altitude of some obscene number, Mach 1 is at least 600 MpH, and I can't imagine freefalling to that point. My initial reaction was also one that questioned friction - is there any likelihood he'll burst into flames or something? Well, best of luck to the guy.
  3. Well said. It's also worth noting that in all versions of Windows Vista you can turn off Aero or Vista Basic interfaces to use "Windows Classic", e.g. the original 1995 look of Windows. Less glass and visual effects = more CPU, RAM and video power that can go towards gaming.
  4. Yeah, I can't see much practical use for it right now outside of superficial things - y'know, characters' facial expressions, maybe looking around (which TrackIR does just fine, I must say), and other than that, there can't be too many games or even concepts that would use the push/pull and so on. And I will say this: encephalographic gaming today; mind control, zombies and robot wars tomorrow.
  5. I didn't even have a computer up until maybe 2000 or so, and therefore my first CFS experience was the first Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. At that point I'd had a little experience on other people's systems, but most of it was spent in gravity- and liftless sci-fi "flight sims" like X-Wing. After MCFS 1 I picked up on the civilian flight sims, then FlightGear, finally settling for MCFS 3 for a year or so. I later discovered LoMac and Aces High II, the latter of which is mostly an MMO WWII sim (I'm surprised I don't see much of it on this site, by the way, because it's really quite good). Now I play mostly LoMac and Aces High II, with little else in any PC gaming category with the exception of Call of Duty 1 and a few select RTSs.
  6. I would offer you a spot in the Vinnitsa 78, but not only are we a full flight already (not a squadron, just 4) but we're not really an organized group in the grand scheme of things; we stick more to casual flying whenever we feel like it. If you want some real organization, just browse around the forum and look at the other threads for LOMAC. Best of luck finding a home!
  7. I really would hop on board for this, but since this summer I'm working so much and might even be moving that I can't guarantee that I'll be around, and I'm not always at the best of connections. So I'll continue flying with some friends of mine in the Vinnitsa 78, as we're a bit less...ahem, rehearsed and refined, and maybe we'll bump into each other online someday. Best of luck with your squad!
  8. A Ukrainian Air Force Sukhoi 27 (NATO name "Flanker") taking off for its home base in Vinnitsa with the rest of the 78th Squadron.
  9. A single Su-27 of the Vinnitsa Air Force Command idles and awaits permission to take off from Sevastopol homewards on a spring morning.
  10. I find myself strangely educated by this thread...most I'd heard, with the exception of CTF (Crash to Fridge) and NTWITA (Now That's What I'm Talking About). Being a pretty hardcore forumer, it's nice to know that someone's out there to educate the newcomers and the veterans alike. @ Longestpants Good grief. That is simply insurpassable.
  11. The larger part of PC games out there now (at least newer than 2000) tend to work with Windows Vista, especially if you've installed SP1. The only real issue I've had with SP1, on the other hand, is that my computer no longer recovers from sleep properly. In theory they'll fix this soon; but as aforementioned, the compatibility mode(s) should be what you need, and that's assuming it doesn't work outright.
