Timeframe for action of special nations in terrains
daddyairplanes replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
a wiser head will probably prove me wrong but my understanding is this it is most certainly possible to edit the TERRAIN_nations.ini. i have done it myself to add my airliners nation to some terrains (so they would show up, created a new nation so they would fly in trail formations) the TERRAIN_nations with say who can fly within that given terrain. i do not recall year specific parameters within this ini though the overall NATIONS entry for that nation will state how long that air force operated for (start and if needed end dates). has the year specifics but in terrains the yare active the whole length, unless you start making a lot of subset nations (American volunteers 1940-1942 or some such). monkeying with the nations.ini too much would probably bust a bunch of installs (even with the warning to use it in a standalone install) and irk people i cannot think myself of a main way to limit in the fashion you want without a subset of aircraft. hopefully the other Kevin or someone else can prove me wrong -

In Regards to Custom Skin Making
daddyairplanes replied to A48Racing's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
that is correct. have to remind myself often when adding a new skin, or doing work on my desktop, then transferring to my laptop (which is actually the stronger one) any jpg and tga changes, and ini edits (like positions) will adjust without restarting the game, so long as you've started at least once and that skin (and associated tga) are now recognized in LODviewer- 37 replies

German Bugs
daddyairplanes replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
true. but the Luftwaffe drove em harder in the 70s/80s and hasnt spent as much money to take care of them as the USAF has, esp with the B-52H fleet. most of the Hercs (who i guess you mean by Albert) that are contemporaries of the Tornadoes are E models and those are just about out of US service as well. as always, it boils down to money/maintenance hours. its what killed the Tomcat, why the USAF wants to retire 1/3 of the current batch of Bones, and why the Germans are retiring the Tornado. like i said, what suprises me is that they dont retire the nuclear mission with it. but then again, European politics is abit more academic for me -

daddyairplanes replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
the whole reason for the Hornet/Growler purchase is that the Typhoons are not certified to carry B61s under NATO nuclear sharing. for some reason it was deemed easier to certify the Super Bug (its not certified to carry nukes either) than the Typhoon. The Tornadoes are getting old and its time to replace them. also mildly suprised Germany didnt decide to withdraw from Nuclear Sharing. fairly sure not everyone is part of that program -

need to add the new B61s if anyone does this up for release (can pm them if needed). also iirc some Growlers are part of the package to replace the EW Tornados -
well the US military is the oldest beaucracy in America. and the Air Force, being the youngest branch until last year, always seemed to double down to prove itself to the others i knew i've told it a few times before online, just forgot it was here (thought maybe Quora or FB). all the same, FRED is one BIG sucker, and makes even IL-76s and C-17s look small let alone helos and fighters

seen em at airshows, and watched one take off in a hurry one fine day in Iraq. found out later the tower told them to abort take off due to the ongoing mortar attack, and the pilot decided he wasnt sitting in the biggest target on the runway!! too bad the old dying whale imitaing a vacuum cleaner noise is gone with the new engines

(cough cough) dont forget recent efforts to improve the appearence and hsitorical accuracy behind the original mods https://combatace.com/files/file/17301-bone-guardians-b-1b-in-ang-service/ https://combatace.com/files/file/17300-sac-twilight-b-1b-bones/ the second one researched to match up every Bone with its original unit (minus ones that crashes before that skins year)

B-52 Hangar
daddyairplanes replied to GKABS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
office spaces look good. a typical environment for this in the US military (Army experience, but the USAF spends similar) is closer to cheap office cubicle than to anything from a movie, video game or the shopping mall above. the outsides are generally extremely boring too, unless the local commander approves some artistic renditions of unit logos. To that end, i'd suggest a Triangle K, as the 379th is now the Expiditionary Wing that handles bombers in CENTCOM. as such theyve been zapping (putting a small decal on) the bombers that pass thru. but bigger than 6 inches maybe on doors, maybe inside, maybe not at all. just some info for you show some 12 year old computers that just got upgraded to Win7 a year ago (yes in 2020), a vending machine and smoke pit outside and its perfect as is tho -

Well thank you very much Kevin. Now i gotta put a whole new brand of ini editting so the Galaxies and DC-8s stop sitting on the ramp with tails jammed into each other. Seriously tho, thats good news as i was apprehensive of fighters at terminal gates! -

Huge open hangar would be awesome. But remember due to frackin parking chance it could often be empty, or funnier have a little Chipmunk where a big Boeing is supposed to go. But when the big birds are parked where theyre supposed to be, its a thing of beauty ( said the guy obsessed with multi engine aircraft) -

took a look at the Ju-87B data ini, given it was the first one i could think of that SHOULD have an actual person in the position (not a set of windows like most tail gun positions seem to be) [Pilot] SystemType=PILOT_COCKPIT PilotModelName=WW2LuftBmrPilot SetCockpitPosition=TRUE Position=0.0,-0.55,0.85 SeatModelName=seat_single SeatPosition=-0.0,-0.583,0.452 MinExtentPosition=-0.32,-0.05,0.15 MaxExtentPosition= 0.32,-1.05,1.65 CanopyNodeName=FrontCanopyFrame HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=STEEL Armor[FRONT].Thickness=75 Armor[REAR].Thickness=5 [RearGunner] SystemType=GUNNER_STATION SeatID=2 GunnerID=1 SetCockpitPosition=FALSE MinExtentPosition=-0.32,-1.0,0.15 MaxExtentPosition= 0.32,-2.0,1.65 PitchModelNodeName=MG15 YawModelNodeName=MG15Yaw GunRange=1500 PitchAngleRate=45 MaxPitch=70 MinPitch=-10 DefaultPitchAngle=25 YawLimited=TRUE YawAngleRate=45 MaxYaw=210 MinYaw=150 DefaultYawAngle=180 [GunCrew] SystemType=PILOT_COCKPIT PilotModelName=WW2GunnerCB SeatID=3 SetCockpitPosition=FALSE Position=0.0,-1.55,0.86 MinExtentPosition=-0.32,-1.0,0.15 MaxExtentPosition= 0.32,-2.0,1.65 CanopyNodeName=RearCanopyFrame HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=STEEL Armor[FRONT].Thickness=75 hope it helps
