Are there Any out there?
daddyairplanes replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thats good, i misunderstood things as to be that a version was free for a month around Christmas. being a contributor (and not getting it through the public venues), i had not been paying as close of attention as i could have to the cost. comment above has been edited back at piecemeal; so go and get it dude! -

i hear you although i will probably fail the space saving race. got a new system last year, so doing a whole new install philosophy. catch is im going from about 6 fat folders to skinnier, just what i need for that region/era folders. but about 17 of them......... -
ooooor, you could just slap a J65 into a SabreDog. K model has your 20mm cannon, Winder capable, and with the added thrust (almost as much as a J47 with afterburner) probably no slouch manuevering (double down if one were to mod an afterburning J65)

go look at eburger's Med Crisis mod. naval based and several differrent skins for the stock Cats. if you can, check out the ODS mod. yes it costs money (a subscription although i think even 1 month gets it for you) and yes its TMF. but they are some pretty good skins, and decal based marking system (not mine this time) so you can change up to the squadron you want EDIT: now available for free but for completely free option, go with Crisis in the Med or NF5 good to see you back in actively again btw -
no they sometimes still go on land, game issue as Gepard said. that and interservice politics. to stay relevant the Navy did go and make the early Arleigh Burkes amphibious. but got stuck with them when the Marines said "how dumb do you think we are" when BuShips tried to pass them off as really large tanks (yes, that last was a joke)

noticed it on a seperate question some time ago. typing this directly into the forum strikes through all the words that follow. found that out since i was posting a question and my examples were and [Strike_61] see what i did there? -
the funniest thing to me is how mission creep is going to make the F-15EX look bad. it was first proposed for one thing its original purpose was to replace the Eagles in Air National Guard units. all of those units have an air soveriegnty mission : they are the first called when someone gets highjacked, an airliner is in distress, someone is purposefully (or even accidentally) violating a no go zone, and when Russia (and one day China) wants to fly some large aircraft at the edge of our airspace. you dont need stealth to be the night watchman of your own airspace. and for anyone misbehaving, yellow bands visible off pylons are a greater incentive to get your act straight than a closed weapons bay. but it would defeat alot of arguements previously made on many topics by the brass to Congress and the public. so the optionally two seated Eagle will give the ANG units new missions to cover down on plus the fastest way to do it was to base off the latest model currently in production, which was the QA iirc. there hasnt been a single seater Eagle built probably since the Obama administration. my final take on it, is not replacing an F-4 with a P-40. its realizing you dont need to daily drive your 68 Camaro anymore, and getting a 22 Camaro. more bells and whistles, less time under the hood to keep it running (plus under warranty) and realistically about the same performance as when the original came off the line. yeah it will be more expensive (direct cost or converting 1968 dollars to 2022 dollars) but everything is over time. and while not an F-35 (or22) hater, you do need different tools for some jobs.

Elch's Vought F-119 Project
daddyairplanes replied to CheckSixCharlie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
theres a reason why the modder of all disciplines sing songs of praise on that. check your model, check a skin, check placement of a decal, hitboxes, animations. almost all able to view after saving the relevant ini or image file (a new skin folder you have to start then quit the game, but then any alterations within can be viewed in LODViewer -

If Blender, look up Mues exporter, in the SF2 download section. Would link it, but on the phone in hospital wait room ATM ( no worries, planned procedure but still in a wait room) Also, Blender 2.79 is the version that works with the exporter iirc -

do you have a copy of the Thirdwire exporter? also important, are you working in 3ds MAX 2009 or Blender 2.79 (in which case you would need Mues exporter)? it does look pretty good if not a little unusual (most what ifs do tho so not a bad thing). few practical observations; for a naval interceptor (production version not paper proposal) i would think the wings a little longer and stabs abit bigger for better control and lower speed coming on the boat. look at the F-35C in real life, it has the biggest wings of the three and its directly because of needing a lower landing speed. but.... if youre carrying Phoenix internally, you got hella internal space. enought tocbe a very viable alternative to hte real F-111. and as shown it would do well dashing down low i think (high wing loading, doesnt buffet as much in the weeds). well and ditching the navy colors! not trying to be a rivet counter, its your bird do as you want. just my observations on how programs that went on to full careers went (both in what worked and in how they looked in the beginning) welcome the party, im one of many thats watching with interest -

no. 3ds Max 2009 (if you use TKs exporter) or Blender (if you use Mues) only -
Nations.ini
daddyairplanes replied to Capt_McFly's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
as part of my contrary nature and counter to everyone saying theres edited ones in the big mods extract the one from stock. keep a copy stuck somewhere not in your mod folder. then play with it and add your desired nations. if you mess something up, then you can always drop that saved copy in and start over. in time you'll get to know it (and the other inis) well enough to catch cool stuff (or mistakes) in the other modded ones. not entirely the path i took learning it, but it does mix you up when learning and something is way different in what say, the two Kevins put out vs what TK put out (like my habit of every damn thing in a decal.ini being DecalLevel=2) -
DCS F-4E Phantom II
daddyairplanes replied to MigBuster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
before scrolling down, i thought to myself "streakeagle must be jumping up and down right about now" will be one watching from the sidelines at first. but if they have European based squadrons, and Euro 1 skins (as well as Hill 2) out of the box, might have to scrape up some funds.... -
F-35 Canopy Clipping Issue
daddyairplanes replied to TheStig's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
by all accounts from the operators (not testers, politicians, keyboard warriors or anyone else that doesnt actually fly the thing operationally) it is a massive game changer. pretty much all the promises of the last 50 years actually come true. especially in the BVR, and precision strike games. not to mention already being the most mass produced and distributed stealth platform ever at barely a quarter of the planned production run complete. say i drank the kool aid or whatever, but folks trash talked pretty much every tactical aircraft since the F-111. most have gone on to be legends, and those retired revered by many. the Panther is at the start of its career, and if Israeli use so far is anything to go by it will be a bright one. pretty sure we cant fully represent it in SF2. might be a stretch for DCS even -

no worries on that, RL is picking up abit for me and the time for modding will be cut down (even if the "ooh i wanna do this" doesnt) i was actually more worried you'd say "looks simple" and try to tackle it now -
going with the google search, given how many posts (including DoD) use Russian equipment as photos in posts about American military im more amused than mad. at least this guy said "wow, A-10s and Desert Storm logos!" when selecting pics. the text of the post was about a DFC awarded mission providing cover for a pilot rescue attempt

long term request (several months away, not now I mean it! ) AGM-28 Hound Dog. the current one's mapping wont allow for the camo that was present from early 70s to retirement in 1978 (although not actively deployed past mid 1975) but i mean it when i say please consider adding to the bottom of the list for now -
