Is there an easy way to kill the sound on that guy that sounds like Ringo who yells 'Contact!' while the mission is loading? It was cool the first hundred times, but it's getting really old. And I always wonder how they got one of two remaining ex-Beatles to do wav's for a WW1 sim.

I'm keeping an open mind. IL-2 is a great sim, it is to WWII as Falcon is to F-16's. This could be a worthwhile product. Hey, it won't kill me to read the reviews, right? :)

Yeah, connecting to a server in Russia from Arizona, what problems could there possibly be? This was never even a consideration for me. Not for a minute. If they ever pull the 'connect to the server' crap out, maybe.

Best graphics I've ever seen. Would you buy a console to play a sim? It's less than I paid for my last video card. IL-2 Birds of Prey Video What do you think? That terrain is amazing and the detail on the planes is the best I've seen.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, but not surprised. Let us know if you get it working. This is one of MANY reasons I will never pay money for a product that requires persistent online authentication. Unless it's a solely multi-player game I see absolutely ZERO benefit to the consumer.

Any suggestions on this? I'd love to put the old original 'Red Baron' music in the shell for this game.

Doesn't it take frakking FOREVER to load with everything full up? I turned my graphics setting down a notch so I wouldn't have to wait MINUTES for the mission to load.

There are so many good mods for FE it's hard to know where to start. I dloaded a bunch of them tonight and am trying them out one at a time. My thought is to provide a 'hey, new guys....these are the essential FE mods' list. The first one I tried was Guitarclassic55's (Jim Dickson) 'Menu Screens' update. It replaces all the menu screens in the game. It is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the stock version. If you enjoy FE, please try this mod and let us know what you think! I really love it and I'm sure it will add greatly to my enjoyment of the game. -M

Having ALL the Third Wire downloads for ALL their games in the same section makes things pretty hard to find. For examplie, I'm looking for 'First Eagles' items. In one section alone I had to page thru THIRTY-SEVEN PAGES of downloads. It would be so much easier to search by game, instead of by publisher.

How do you change your loading screens? I assume there are file-names you can use. Are their attributes you need to use, color-depth, size, etc? Thanks for any tips on how to do this!

I just started learning this sim and find the default bindings to be pretty odd. Since this is based on a WW2 engine there are lots of free keys available for use. I'm going to spend some time thinking of a good keyboard map that makes sense and use that. Here's what I've found so far that we won't use in OFF. Corrections, additions and suggestions appreciated! Thanks for the tip that virtual cockpit was UNASSIGNED! I've done F1 as vc, F2 as Spot (whatever that is) F3 as chase and F12 as Player/target. Much better now that I don't have to hit F4 three times to be in the cockpit!

Let's start with some basic q's.... why don't my look left, look right (keypad 4 and 6) work consistenly? Yeah, I know, they want the numlock on. But even with it on they only seem to work while I'm in combat. If I'm just flying around...no go. ? So if you're not using trackir (and yes, I'm thinking about it...hard) what views to you folks use when you're flying? In the fifteen years I've been playing sims I've never seen one that didn't have a 'go to your front cockpit view' key. That was a SINGLE KEY. This sim looks very nice so far, but MSFC3... I can see why MS doesn't make sims anymore.

I've finally got some time to start playing this sim and am dumbfounded by the view commands. Is this a joke? If you want to look out your front view you have to hit F4 repeatedly until the view you want comes up? Look back is shift+keypad2, but only if numlock is off? Please tell me what I'm missing here....

VERY new at this sim. I'm trying to target lock and fire a sidewinder. I setup a TE with me and a recruit, but I cannot get the lock to work. It's keypad 0, right after you've lined up the crosshairs on him. I've tried RWS and TWS, I'm cycling thru modes and sub-modes (F1 and F11) and nothing seems to work. Wait a minute. As I write this I realize I'm seeing a little white hat and not a little yellow square. What's the white hat? I'm reading the basic manual and the PDF, but not getting anywhere. What do I have to do to get that '0' to LOCK the target and switch over to STT? Thanks for any suggestions.

Then why are my cockpits not in widescreen?

Just bought F4:AF tonight and patched to 1.013. I've selected 1680x1050 32bit graphics. But I have black bars on my cockpit? What am I doing wrong here? All suggestions welcome.
