The missing post is nothing, it probably didn't go thru when I hit enter - my internet connection really sucks. Which is one more reason, even I was willing to, I could not play 'ROF' (which I have no interest in anyway, since OFF is so amazing, why bother with another WW1 sim). The problem with most discussions of DRM is this: Sooner or later (and usually sooner....much sooner) the people on the 'pro' side of the DRM debate accuse the people on the 'anti' side of the debate of being thieves, thinking like thieves, acting like thieves, etc. That gets old. VERY OLD. I've been a gamer since 'X-Wing' came out in 1993. Not so much anymore. After the starforce fiasco I started taking a VERY pro-active look at potential game purchases DRM. I will not install steam or any other 'run in the background' client. I will not purchase any game that has limited installs. I don't mind one 'authentication' on install. But always connected to the internet? Unless it's a multi-player only game, that's just nuts. Needless to say, I don't spend near the money or time on computer gaming I once did. When I said 'ROF has a rotten business model' I absolutely believe it. I think if they had a simple, offline disk-check (like MFCS3, for example) they would get MORE sales than they will with this crazy 'you always have to be connected to our server' nonsense. Just my opinion based on my experiences as a gamer, my many gaming friends feeling about this kind of thing, and what I read about this issue. No way to say if I'm right or wrong. But I really believe this intrusive DRM is not going to be a long-term thing. The market just will not stand for it. I hope I'm right. I guess we'll see over time.

I wish the Boeing plane had won the JSF contest. I thought it was an amazing design.

A short lesson in logic and bad manners: Person A: "A flat tax is the only fair tax". Person B: "Only thieves think a flat tax is a good idea". What has happened here is Person B has indulged in what is called an 'abusive ad hominem'. It is a logical fallacy. And remarkably rude. Here, let me give you a second example, just so you know how this works: Person A: " ROF has a ROTTEN BUSINESS MODEL." Person B: "Its only rotten from a user whose perspective is skewed towards feeling like a thief and then possibly acting like one." So, again, we see that when someone has no logical, intelligent reply to a stated position they can resort to insulting the PERSON who made the first statement, instead of attacking the statement itself. Remember that...'abusive ad hominem'. You see it all the time in politics. Now you see it on this forum. Pretty sad. People should be able to express their opinions without being called thieves.

I completely disagree with you here. I HAVE NOT and WILL NOT buy ROF, or any game that requires constant internet authentication, or has limited installs. The people who download stuff from torrents (you, know, people who STEAL STUFF) would not necessarily be customers if they could not download it. But there are a lot of people like me, who WOULD buy something if the DRM wasn't so intrusive. So, no, IMHO, horsesh*t DRM does NOT guarantee more sales. Quite the reverse. Games that make a big deal out of not having bad DRM do VERY WELL in sales. Be good to your customers instead of treating them like thieves and screwing with their PC's - that's the way to 'guarantee a bit more volume of sales'. There are more PC games I'd like to play than I have time for. So I can pick and choose where I put my money. I choose to support companies that treat their customers well, and not companies that think that screwing their customers is the best way to get more customers. And yes, starforce is screwing your customers. I spent TWO DAYS debugging and rebuilding my PC because of that junk. Limited installs, constant online verification for single-player games....FORGET IT. ROF has a ROTTEN BUSINESS MODEL.

What's your favorite WWI Movie?
SGCSG1 replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm still waiting for the 'Red Baron' to get its U.S. release on dvd. And waiting, and waiting..... -
Do you like that airplane you're shooting at? Good, because you're going to end up wearing it any second now.
-
It's a great single-player game, best WW1 sim I've played since the original Red Baron. I haven't done any multi-player (yet) but I'm sure I'll get around to that someday. One of the many great things about OFF is that OBD Software is great about patches and improvements. I suspect multi-player will be ramped up on the priority list in the future.

This is a really nice forum. Lots of helpful folks. OFF can be a little weird at first, but once you get it setup the way you like, it's really slick.

Can you save your keyboard file?
SGCSG1 replied to SGCSG1's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Outstanding!!! Thank you! This is going to be a big help for those of us who like to re-do the mapping from the ground up. Mods - maybe this should go in the tips & tricks sticky? -
If you need more money for that, just ASK.

Can you save your keyboard file?
SGCSG1 replied to SGCSG1's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yeah, I got rid of those modifier commands and simplifed everything. Find friend = 'F'. Kill engine = 'B'. I've got my spreadsheet print-out, but I'm not sure how final it was, and it sure would be nice to be able to save the file. -
That sounds good, too. I wonder if potential customers look at patch web-pages and are intimidated by the variety of patches. Yeah, I know, we hard-core don't care. But this sim is so good I'd like to see more newb's try it! I know I was slowed down for awhile by the whole, 'you need to have another sim (MSFCS3)' to install it, but you folks have made that so ridiculously easy it's not even near being an issue anymore.

I'm not happy with the MCFS3 default key commands, so I spent a lot of time setting up what I thought was a really nice keyboard map. And then my PC crashed. HARD. Before I start this process again (practice makes perfect)....is there a way to save the keyboard maps? Is it an external file somewhere that I can put on my backup drive, and then replace in case I reload again? I looked around in the OBD directory and nothing caught my eye. Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

Very nice, thanks for the good news. I'm curious, what is XDP/DM rationalisation?

Makes sense. I'll look forward to NOT reading the ROF posts that aren't there.

They may elect creepy Senators, but apparently they write damn good letters, too. -
OFF BH&H MiniPATCH 1.31L is now available!
SGCSG1 replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks, I thought it was a keyboard-in-flight thing. I've tried bumping it up and didn't see much difference, I'll have to experiment when I have more time. The graphics in this sim are sooo good. I love the terrain. Hard to believe it started out as CFS3! -

What are these settings? And where can they be found? 2) User FOV settings (Field-of-View) for Virtual Cockpit! Thanks for any info, I looked for a readme for this patch and couldn't find one in the OFF folder. -
I Couldn't Stand By and Just Let it Be

Outstanding letter. GOOD JOB! It will be very interesting to see if anything comes of this. -
Just watched a pretty bad movie, 'Von Richthoven and Brown'. Aside from being a pretty bad movie (quite amateurish editing, for one thing) it had lots of historical inaccuracies. For example, saying it was Richthoven instead of Erwin Bohme who hit Boelcke's plane, causing his death. One of the German pilots was saying, 'I wish we could change these ridiculous plane colors, the English can see us for miles'. So what is the story on the BRIGHT COLORS the Germans used in WW1? Was it just vanity? Was there some reason for painting your plane with these bright colors and outrageous color schemes? Any comments?

I absolutely hate the whole 'claims' thing. I know it's supposed to 'increase immersion'. I just find it a PITA. I think if it was optional it would be better. This sim already has the hard-core grognards, if sales are to continue I think it has to be less 'hair-shirt'. That you have to write up something this detailed is just NUTS: "20/;4/;1916 ;15h;8 ;Flanders ;Abeele ;Patrol Friendly Front Lines ; Flying: Airco DH2. On this day claims: ;1 ;Roland CII . ;During afternoon patrol, flying at 7,200', I became separated from my flight in heavy cloud cover. Dove down under clouds to take a bearing and encountered two enemy B/R planes, (Roland type), slightly above and ahead of me at about 6,000' and just our side of the front lines. EA were heading northwest towards Ypres and were attempting to use the cloud base as cover. I turned after them and followed for approximately five minutes. I engaged both as they began an attack on Bailleul Town aerodrome. Put approximately 120 rounds into the trailing craft, which began smoking badly and shortly thereafter fell into a vrille and was seen to crash in the woods just south of the airfield, at 15:02. I managed to inflict some minor damage to the upper starboard wing of the second EA, but he flew away to the east and I had to break off the attack and land at Bailleul Town due to a punctured petrol line. Was greeted by Flt. Cmdr. Archibald Blevins, who congratulated me and noted he would personally provide confirmation of the kill. He was also kind enough to place a guard around the downed aircraft, and had his mechanician repair the petrol line on my Airco and check it over for my return flight. Phoned back to squadron and had a lorry despatched to cart the EA back to camp for inspection. Witnessed by: Ground Witness Archibald Blevins Status : Confirmed ;" And if I were a potential customer, hanging around these forums, doing research trying to decide if I wanted to bother to buy this game (which requires buying ANOTHER game FIRST) I would just say, 'this is too much, forget it'.

My install of OFF is g.o.n.e...GONE, like the rest of my computer. I've spent all day rebuilding it. I spent three hours screwing around with a nightmare product called 'Bitdefender'. It kept killing my wireless network. WTF? Unbelieveable. You had to do all this weird nonsense to get it to work and - get this - settings were not carried over from one account to the next. Logon as another user....fight the bitdefender software for an hour. Junk, just junk. So what do you guys use?
-
I just put some guys engine on fire and he managed to land. I landed next to him, just for the heck of it. A WW1 'simulation/role-playing game' would be fun.
