O/T: Need PC help... please. PC locks constantly.
OvS replied to OvS's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for this... but it's really no help. -
Gents, Lately my PC has been just locking up for no reason. I noticed it has a higher tendency to occur when I am downloading files, but still, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I have scanned with Spybot, Malware, and AVG and nothing helps. I don't know if it's memory related, video card related or software related. Is there anything I can do? There are NO symptoms, other than just the lock, and I hear my HD still running. So with that... I was considering upgrading to Win7, adding a new Graphics card and new memory bank. I love to fly FSX, as well as our own OFF, so I want the most I can get out of my PC. I have a I7 Quad Core, on an Intell mobo... the rest is the usual. So far it looks like my CPU is still in fashion, so I was simply going to overclock it then add the memory to take advantage of Win7's 64-bit tech. Any ideas? Ask the questions rather than me just putting out useless info. All the best, OvS

Christ, that's no way to treat a vintage airplane!!! Almost 100 years later and they still look the same when they crash. Hope the pilot was OK. OvS

I was giving my near 1 year old daughter a bath, when the phone rang.. it was my wife... she tells me "Can you turn on the TV, something happened in NYC, something just hit the Twin Towers. Now, keep in mind, I live in Long Island, and am always the skeptic... so right away I am thinking... WTF... how could someone be so stupid... but now and then private pilots screw-up... so I turn on the TV, and there is is, smoking like hell. I began to think to myself (remember, those of you that know me, I am a aircraft mechanic and work for an airline)... WTF.... that aint no Cessna that caused that damage... no sooner am I saying this, the second plane hits the North tower... now all hell breaks loose. My wife is calling like crazy.. every freakin' fire siren 100 miles from my house is wailing... the news is going nuts... my one friend is calling in tears because his fiancee is in Tower 1 and he can't reach her... It goes on... I go outside to the sound of police sirens and rescue rigs all over the Southern State parkway as I live very close to it... I was glued to the TV from then on. I found out later that day that several people I know were dead, and or lost friends or loved ones. Those that I know were first responders in the NYFD and PANY/NJ. Basically... it sucked. OvS

Very OT: Thought I read "Polovski" and clicked it

Wow..... Red card the whole team, and bring them in for 'performance enhancing' testing... Damn... -
So how do you get all this for AA? Is it a free game like it used to be? Wasn't it a 'trainer' for the US Army at one point? Looks like a good game though. OvS
-
Absolutely! I hope they make another, but it looks as if the WWII FPS market is dying if not dead already.

Pol is right Widow, he is talking about Hill30, and to some extent EIB. There are scenes that are calm, until you step into an area, then you see guys running to attack you or it triggers a movement of the enemy, whatever it may be. Also, the fence thing is correct. They funnel you into the combat zone, or 'kill area' whereas you have no other option but to take that route. Hell's Highway is not like that, or it's not as obvious. But the surrounding scenery is so active and beautiful that you really don't notice it. No matter what., there is only so much the devs can do with FPS games. If it's a mission type, they have to push you in a direction to keep the flow moving, otherwise it would all be arena kill games. The worst though is the COD games. It's just mass chaos/killing without much attention to tactics. Hide behind this, shoot, run behind this, shoot... etc... etc.. I think it's annoying as hell. OvS

I played the SP version of HL2, and it rocked. One of the best SP FPS I ever played. It was wide open, whereas, you could walk around and not be jumped every 2 seconds by something, which meant you could really enjoy the atmosphere of the game. OvS

I like the part about cooking meat for the smell of soft targets... so I guess I should have some ketchup and onions ready as I play COD4.

Very well said Hellshade.

I think it's due out tomorrow... err... wait.. maybe The Day After Tomorrow... hey, wasn't that a movie about the end of the .... jeeze, I hope we get it done before that happens!! What is it 2012... 2112? One of those... Seriously though... there is no ETA, no dates.... nothing, but I can say we are working on it. It is happening... The Happening... that's another movie, isn't it? I should stop now. OvS

LOL!!! You're killing me!! OvS -
Superb vid, great editing and music choice. But RoF's shortfalls show through. Where is the 'M' on Menkorff's Alb? What about some color on those Albs? Small stuff... but true.

OT: Greetings From The North Dakota Badlands
OvS replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It's a great place Lou. I've been there as well. I liken it to a mini Grand Canyon. It's hot as hell in certain spots though. It funny the story of it's name... Bad Lands, meaning just that, it's Bad to farm on. Pretty creative on the part of the Indian tribe that named it. Enjoy! Also in the area, is a museum where they are unearthing a ton of Mammoth fossils and all sorts of other stuff. They belive it was some sort of mud pit, or shallow lake full of silt. Google it with fossil museum in North Dakota. If you're anywhere near it, check it out. I wish I could remember the name of the place and wherre it was. I just remember it was really cool. OvS -
Really? Wow. Hey... I was thinking of asking the guys over at Panzer Elite Dev Group (PEDG) if they'd like to team-up with us at CombatAce. I wonder if they would. That's another awesome throw-back.. even though the graphics are really dated... the game rocks. OvS

For Vectrex and ZX-128 (and all other Spectrums) I use MESS as well. It allows you to easily add-in all the cool overlays for the Vectrex that you need to play some of the games. OvS

I have 2 Dietz's hanging in my desk area. They are the last Voss he had (Voss being chased by 56 RFC) and Jasta 11 Alb D.Va's at dawn take-off (MvR in center flanked by 2 other Jasta 11 aces). They are priceless to me and worth every penny I paid for them. Not only is Jim a fantastic artist but he's a great guy as well. All the best, OvS

By no means is this new to anyone that has been doing it for the past 10+ years... like me... but if you haven't tried it, I'd be happy to help on this forum thread. Please don't PM asking for ROMs. You can find them very easily out there, mostly on ROMNATION.com. I have been doing this for well over 10 years now and started on what's called Muliti Arcade Machine Emultor, or MAME for short. I loved it so much that when I finally bought my house in 2000, one of the first projects I did for my wife and I was to build a fully functional arcade machine, to fit the PC running MAME. 10 years later, I have refurbished/converted two more arcade machines (or MAME cabinets as they are formally known as in the MAME world). From that point on, and prior to it, I used several for NES, Atari 2600/5200/7800, Commodore 64, Amiga, SNES, Sega, heck.. .even Channel F!! So with that, if anyone is interested, I can help out by starting a short list of game systems and very good emulators that you can use to play all those old games again, right from a portable thumb drive! Known good emultors are in bold letters and readily available for free out on the i-net. Commodore 64 - CCS64 roms can be found at www.c64.com however, they are missing a lot, and some don't work. But a very good starting point. Amiga - UAE or winFellow - you need to get the kickstart roms (they're out there too) Intellivision - Nostalgia - you need the GROM and EXEC roms to run it... and the intellivoice rom to play the 4 intellivoice games Atari 2600 - MESS Atari 5200 - MESS Atari 7800 - MESS Colecovision - MESS (there is another emulation available, but I find MESS to be the easist to config and use. NES - Nesticle or MESS - good luck with finding roms, NES tightened the clamp, but they're still out there. SNES - Znes or MESS - same as NES for roms Dragon's Lair - Daphne or MAME - you need more files and the original DVD game available at http://www.digitalle...VDRom_games.htm ALL arcade games - MAME latest version is 138u3. old DOS games (yes, you can play Monkey Island again!!! Or even Wings of Glory!!) - DosBox - games are out there on abandonwarz sites all over the place. Well that's a really good start... OvS
-
Well... Pol promised me he knew what he was doing when he said he could "fly a grape if it had wings"... little did I know. I agreed to do it as long as we were both in black and I could wear my infamous 'bat' cape and top hat! I never expected the video to go viral!!! OvS
-
Well, from what I know and have seen... it's coming along very nicely, that's all I can say.. but really... we ARE working hard. I can't wait to see the final product from this phase. OvS
