Test Pilot's Report about the German Fighter Roland D.VI
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou, please report, if you find more such stuff - had no time yet to check. Naaaaaw, Hasse Wind, naw - not a hint. Just an idea, I'd say... - ... a good idea, yeah. In fact it would be a very good idea! They call this a hint, don't they? I guess it is one. LIMA, that Roland D.VI makes my mouth water and my pilot heart jump! One day we may have them in OFF, too. But not so soon, I'm afraid. -

That's also true, I think. The French will now get the early Morane-Saulnier. Apart from those early Morane types I don't see another French fighter missing anymore. But I hope they will also get one or two of the many two-seater types they had, like the Caudron or the Breguet. The British will get another good fighter with the Snipe. I wonder what we Germans will be given - a Siemens-Schuckert D.III or D.IV would be great, or a Roland D.II, D.III or D.VI. -

Yes, I had understood that. Will do. No, there is no German bias - I had sometimes seen it exactly the other way round, but I guess, they tried to balance it. As the Albatros productionwise was a main aircraft (the Messerschmidt Bf 109 of WW1 so to say), they had to create all versions, as they were always in service in great numbers. Here are the fighters each nationality can fly in OFF so far - you see, that the Germans are not biased (much rather the British): BRITISH Bristol Scout Sopwith Strutter 1B1 FE2b Airco DH-2 Nieuport 11 Sopwith Pup Nieuport 16 Nieuport 17 Lewis Bristol F2b Sopwith Triplane SPAD VII Nieuport 24 Lewis DH-5 S.E.5a S.E.5a Viper Sopwith Camel GERMAN Fokker E.III Roland C.II Halberstadt D.II Albatros D.II Albatros D.III Albatros D.V Fokker Dr.1 Pfalz D.IIIa Albatros D.Va Albatros D.Va 200 Fokker D.VII Fokker E.V Foker D.VII F FRENCH Nieuport 11 Nieuport 16 Sopwith Strutter 1B1 Nieuport 17 SPAD VII Nieuport 24 SPAD XIII AMERICAN Nieuport 17 Nieuport 28 SPAD VII Sopwith Camel SPAD XIII -

Okay, that is a fine chart for me to use, thank you, Panama Red ! According to Wikipedia, the early SPAD VII still had problems (engine overheating; gun jams), and the improved version came early 1917. But some got delivered from August 1916 on. I also agree, that the OFF Manager should decide, which craft appeared when. -
You should de-install OFF then, and make a fresh clean re-install, gaw. If you have a CFS3 DVD, you can start the new install with the OFF DVD. It will ask you to insert CFS3 DVD only for some data. Remember the right install order of BHaH, the patches, and HitR (see OFF Website). www.overflandersfields.com P4 will be a completely new sim. No need to build it on top of P3 or HitR.
-
Sounds like you have deleted more there. You could also re-activate the Master Copy of ViewUI.xml but I doubt that will be all. Did you do a "Reset OFF Manager" ? And if so, did you also do a "Reset CFS3" ? That are the measures that should solve most problems; but you will lose all campaign pilots.

Thank you for the new SPAD FM, Herr Prop-Wasche - I will test them at least as opponents soon. Later I also intend to create a new SPAD campaign pilot. Your install advice was a bit confusing, or I did something wrong: when I move the 5 SPAD folders over into MODS, I don't see your txt.file there. One question now: I guess, one must decide, if one uses the one or the other SPAD - always only one can be activated? Which brings me to another question: which versions were used when? -
gaw, the devs have built in some insurance for this, which may save yer. Go here: (your computer name) > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields You should find a file there called Master Copy of uisel.xml Make a copy of it and name it uisel.xml Now it should be back to work. You only may need to do your personal settings again.

Parky, that is great little find ! That must have cost some 10.000 Dollars again, to start the interceptors. I just imagine, how the fighter pilots are nervously waving like mad, and Myrtle Rose is friendly waving back. Mmuahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!! It's a nervous, crazy world we live in - great to sometimes see relaxed people like Mrs. Rose. And her cute little Teddy Bear with the bomber jacket! Teddy Bear flying solo:

Yeah, this looked alright to me.

Often the producers change things from "historically accurat" to "thats what they wanna see". And the producers, as far as I know, were Warner Bros. The whole film was made in English (!) and only afterwards synchronised by the German actors.

The Seven Samurai is a classic - and no CGI necessary even.

Yeah, I'm that hopeless case of a soldier - I still believe in the good in everyone else.

Undocumented but useful keyboard command?
Olham replied to 33LIMA's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have found recently, that the commands "Attack" and "Help" are mostly all I need. I tell them to attack, when we go on two-seaters or fighters, which are lower than us. When we get jumped by fighters, I usually only press "Help", and they will attack the planes next to me, while I try to pepper each and every enemy craft to make it easier for my wingmen. May not be "historically correct", but it is very effective. -
I didn't mean to do down CGI - I would really love to see good WW1 and WW2 CGI material. It's only, that they should study the original material better, and then get it right. If you watch the long following video, you will notice - it doesn't need to be very crisp - it needs to move right - it needs to have the right shapes It's the movements and physics, where the CGI stuff is still lacking believability. The most aircraft scenes are from 13th minute on.

Sounds interesting, and it was new to me. Thank you, LIMA! -

You British are a funny lot and I often wondered why I should like you, but then you come up with something as brilliant as "Monty Python" or "Blackadder", "Waterloo Sunset" or "Penny Lane", "Pooh the Bear" or "A Hitchhiker's Guide through the Galaxy"; the Spitfire or the Mosquito - and the wondering goes away, and I must like you, no matter why! "633 Squadron" was the very first war film I ever saw. We had no TV back then, and I went to our local cinema. I was absolutely impressed! And bought the AIRFIX DeHavilland "Mosquito" as soon as I had pocket money again!

I'm not sure if it only works with Clouds on "5", but clouds don't seem to be as resource-hungry as many here think; so push them to "5". To gain performance, I recommend to reduce like this: 1. Reduce "Ground Object Densitiy" in "Workshops" to "medium" or "low". 2. Set up "Graphic Settings" in "Workshops" like this: Aircraft: 5 Terrain Detail: 3 (looking fine on 3 - I still have it there) Scenery Detail: 2 (seems to eat the most performance) Effects quality: 3 - 5 Clouds quality: 5 With these settings I have been running the sim fine until my upgrade, and everyone said my Screenshots were looking good. All the refinements above that came from my graphic card's "Control Center"; Anti-Aliasing and Additional AA and stuff.

If you switch your Labels on, you will notice, that E/A may disappear behind veils of haze, or in the blinding sun. As well as the Labels disappear for you under such circumstances, you would also be invisible for the AI, if you were behind the haze, or in the sun. That is really simulated - and that is a great point. I have often shaken off opponents by flying into clouds, where I then perform a tight turn. It works.

Ah, I see - his short name is Tochy though; didn't know his full name; thanks!
-
Although I don't think, that the "Field of View" (FOV) would effect your medals, here are three FOV settings for your resolution. You set FOV in the lower right of "Workshops". Select also the ratio 16:10 (in the left half) there. 24 : 15 or 26 : 16 or 27 : 17 These will bring your screen's width into relation with the height. The first line will make you a little more remote from everything; the next two bring everything closer. You could try them all to see the effect.
-
Yes, I know. He is written "Tochy", by the way. Here is one that looks believeable; it's the "Whistling Death" - the Chance Vought F4U "Corsair".
