That's another lovely shot of the little Pup with the sun sheen on it's surfaces. -

Check the forum section about skinning, if you're not sure - it is quite easy to do for WOFF! PS: I can make one of these with your emblem on, Dave - what do you like? -

Yep, that is my MFJ I pilot Juergen Harms' paintjob - and he is quite proud of it! WHEN THE HOUNDS OF WAR FIND YOUR SPOOR... -

MudWasp, with your overclocked CPU you should be fine at 4.6 GHz - I fly the sim with only 3.3 GHz. Can't see your graphic card in your list - but I guess it will do.

Look at those clouds - that's real art work. No need for SweetFX or any enhancers for me. That was a busy patrol with MFJ I - first one of our newbies got attacked by two of the new Scout Experimental 5, which are damn fast. But the Englishman was too target-fixated - I got behind him and shot him down. He tried a landing in no-man's land, but he got caught up in the wires and went headover. Then it was my turn to be the hunted - three Sopwith Triplane appeared and had their fun with chasing me around, until the fierce Flak from Rumbeke made them turn away from me. I had received a hit, and my radiator lost water, which spilled out and was quite hot, when it hit me. The engine conked out and I had to put the craft down in an open field, not far from Rumbeke airfield. Help arrived very quickly. -

Always touching to read such reports about discovered wreckage. Thank you for sharing, Shiloh! -

Maybe Odell was good at attracting enemy scouts and luring them into traps? Good Odell - if you haven't read "No Parachute!" by Arthur Gould Lee yet, you should get yourself a copy quickly and read it. You will enjoy your campaign with No. 46 Sqdn RFC ten times better! While I read it, I felt like I was really there at La Gorgue with the boys... -

Looked it up (oh, the world-wide web!) and found what it means: "A will-o'-the-wisp are atmospheric ghost lights seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travellers from the safe paths." The German word would be "Irrlicht". -

Wow, great nice pic of the Biff, Widowmaker! I guess you could even enjoy finer wires, when you don't use the sim's Anti-Aliasing, but the graphic card's. Anti-Aliasing: 8, and Anisotropic Filtering: 4 should work fine, i guess. Not the graphics are so demanding in WOFF, but all the CPU must do (with a single core). -

WWI Aviation Library continues to grow
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Gee! As slowly as I read, I wouldn't manage to read all these books in my lifetime! Let me recommend to you one book, which I'm about to finish reading, and which is possibly the best I have read from a German aviator: Otto Fuchs (translated by Adam Wait): "Flying Fox" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764342525/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d4_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0PYRTMWHG5V59AAKT1MF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846 The English, modern version even has an advantage over the original. Fuchs had "disguised" all personal names as well as squadons in the German book - Adam Wait has carefully researched, which real pilots were behind these aliases. Heartly recommended - you won't regret it, Lou. -
Good points, Lou! I'd like to add, that I made the observation, that the AI pilots, when they have the advantage and they are chasing me all the way down to the deck, are not too often as target-fixated and eager as some of us may often be - they let me run away several times, instead of giving up all their altitude.

Another Rave About AnKor's Shadowing Mod
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, so true, Lou! There are moments, when I'm not in a furball, but fly over the great landscapes of the Picardie, the Marne region, Verdun sector or Alsace-Lorraine - moments when my heart brims over from that kind of joy that can bring tears to the eyes. Winder's wonderful WOFF-landscape-works (I love alliterations!) are getting perfectly complete with AnKor's shader mod. So, if everyone who enjoys it only half as much as I do, would donate him ten or more dollars, Euro or whatever, he would get at least something back in return. The "Donate" button is at the bottom of his post #1 here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3881675/DirectX_8_to_9_converter_March#Post3881675 -
The farmer wants his field back...
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, the scenery in OFF sure DID look good. But then it was also a bit like a phantasy landscape; a kind of 'Shire'. I loved it too, but the new landscape is much more northern France - and still wonderfully special. -
Yeah, that was end of February, I think. Meanwhile I'm in April (after a hospital break of two weeks) - and it's still often bad. Hoping for real spring!

Thank you, guys. Yeah, I know I had quite a long run, and RAF_Louvert, Dej and Bullethead too. (Bullethead, come back, man - I know I stepped on your toes, but 'm sure you can take that!) There were many others, who made at least very good occasional contributions, like Womenfly2, JFM or Widowmaker - many more actually. Flyby, don't get bitter; carry on as good as you can. The crunch wasn't your fault, and it had to happen sooner or later. It isn't even over yet. And the bankers speculate on and on - no brakes installed... -

There are many remains of WW2 airfield in England - more than I had thought. Here is a site with some great pics of still standing buildings: http://www.panoramio.com/user/5550986?comment_page=1&photo_page=1 Corsaire, you're right; I post at both places. My output isn't so high anymore, that I could have different things in each place - I guess I have shot most of my powder in over 15.000 posts here. -

If you need a quiet sector, why not also a beautiful one - you could fly down in Alsace-Lorraine. That was never a hot spot in that war, and the lanscape is wonderful. Buhl is nice, for example. This interactive website may help you to decide about place, squadron and time. You can search by date, squadron or airfield. When you move the cursor over an airfield marking, you'll see which sqdn was there, and when. http://patriot.net/~townsend/WW1AirMap2/ -

Have fun, Dave - I also came a bit later, and my experiencing will sure take a LOT more time still. -
Just had a good dogfight with a Sopwith Strutter, which I finally shot down; but the gunner also wounded me and damaged my engine. When I heard irritating new sounds, I immediately reduced throttle by half. I dived away, and then checked my health status: 77%. F5 info also showed the engine status - still 100%. So - where the noises I believed to hear, not so bad? I pushed throttle forward - only to see a rapidly decreasing engine health value! Quickly I reduced throttle again - and the decrease stopped. The value staiblised at 67% engine health. I almost reached my homefield with that, but the craft slowly went lower and lower, and when a treeline had to overcome, I gave some more throttle. With the consequence, that the engine now quickly died. I could just put my craft down next to a road. Thank you, Robert, for your idea to land next to roads in such cases - it saved my pilot! In that thick snow and rain drizzle I wouldn't have seen any fences. Thanks also to Creaghorn - your sounds are very good and they tell something about how the engine "feels" - if one only listens!

Jasta 17 had to transfer westwards, from Metz-Frescaty in the Verdun sector to St.Quentin-le-Petit in the Marne region. A flight of 160 kilometers, which could be done in 1 hour. I took off last, but managed to catch up with other fliers on the way. My Albatros D.II was running so fine despite the bad weather, and I caught up with the group of Strasser, Buckler and Träger. But they all flew too high, through the grey clouds - I needed to see the ground and some landmarks. I was really happy, when I recognised Rethel north of the river Aisne - from here it was only a short way to our new field. The rain and snow drizzle had something good - enemy fighters would have hardly spotted our small transfer groups. So now I'm at the Aisne front - I wonder what the future will bring for us... I made this transfer flight in real time, and though there was no combat action at all, and although the weather was rather dreadful, I enjoyed finding my way. Thank you, Winder, for the wonderful landscapes! They even look great when the weather is bad!

Yes, and I miss it too. After all it wouldn't be too difficult to visit two places - SimHQ AND CombatAce IMHO. But in both places there isn't that much going on. Maybe the spring attracts everyone to be out more?
