  1. Only recently I had the idea to get me a MUCH larger monitor with "full HD resolution". When I compared prices, I saw that they get quite expensive above 24" size. Among the comparing monitors, I also saw flatscreen TVs - and I thought: why not?!? I tried it out with my TOSHIBA REGZA 37" TV - and the result was AMAZING! My eyesight is not as in my youth anymore, and I need to wear glasses. But even with glasses, I never saw everything so clearly before. I had expected a pixelated view, as the TV pixels are larger than on monitors. But not at all! Sitting ca. 1 m away from the screen, I get a wonderful huge "cinemascope vision" of everything. My cockpit is now real life-size. The clouds are huge and soft; the skies around me endless, and the landscape wonderfully detailed. My spotting of E/A and my shooting improved a lot! I will now fix a wall holder, so that I can move the screen forward or back. For my graphic jobs I will still use my 22" monitor. But for flying I will use the "Cinemascope" vision from now on. For my living room I ordered a new 39" full-HD TV - a WAREHOUSE DEAL from AMAZON for 320,- Euro. That is my Christmas present to myself. (I had been a good boy most of the year - Mmuahahahahaaa!!!) EDIT / IMPORTANT NOTE: I have now received the new flatscreen TV for my livingroom; a newer TOSHIBA model. I tested it both as TV and for sim flying, and it didn't look any good on both. So if you want to fly with a 37" TV monitor, make sure you get a good one. There seem to be huge differences!
  2. Mine is a TOSHIBA "REGZA" 37" flatscreen TV with full HD resolution. I am sitting ca. 1 Meter away from it, and I see no single pixels, but a wonderful sight-filling scenario. Since I use that, I can recognise E/A much, much earlier and better!
  3. Robert, I guess that's what it will be like. Some pilots went from 2seaters to a fighter squadron, and when they proved very good there, they were transfered to one of the task force squadrons. Maybe they even added the way MvR did it: he had the freedom to select and ask pilots from other Staffeln. So - if you are very good in a German scout, Manfred might knock on your door one day...
  4. IMHO it is a very good new feature in "Wings Over Flanders Fields", that a pilot will be sent to a unit, rather than select one for himself. (though I guess that will also be possible) This new way we will possibly have to spend some time on two-seaters, even though we want to become a fighter pilot. It will be a much more rewarding feeling, when the transfer order finally comes. And still we will not have the agony of choice - we will simply have to go where the brass want us to go. We may arrive at a unit we would never have thought of, in a landscape we had never explored before. We may not be happy there at first, but when we prove our good qualities - maybe we will be trasnsfered or requested by one of the more prominent squadrons, and finally arrive at a theater where we always wanted to be. The feeling of having achieved something, of being rewarded for it, should be immense!
  5. No hasty wrong decisions, man - who would supply you with all the good food, whilst you do the flying?!
  6. Ha, same I idea as I had - why not use a full HD flatscreen TV for flying! I can see everything much better, and the real-life feeling is amazing.
  7. Aaaahhhh! That reads like balm for the soul!
  8. Oh dear - I may have to remain grounded then...
  9. Looking great. But no Windows 7 (32bit), as Widow said?
  10. Barmy, Sir - not "barmey". We are not so barmy that we couldn't write "barmy" correctly. Maybe you didn't read the secret orders? We are all lurking outdoors, behind a bush, a barrel or a barn (yes, all alliterations for "barmy" can be chosen) waiting for the moment when the bugle will be blown...
  11. Hauksbee, I have hardly any knowledge there, but I know that Galland had complained about the bad rearward vision in the Bf109. He then designed a different canopy, the "Erla-Haube" or "Galland-hood". It had less vertical struts, and the horizontal one was bent downwards towards the rear. The concept also replaced the tank-steel plate behind the pilot's head by a thick bulletproof glas plate. Not sure, but this photo seems to tell, that the later G-types had also slightly more room? The DB 605 engine had fuel injection, and the Bf109 could climb almost vertically, or even fly headover. With that climb the engine should have been strong enough IMHO. I guess what impressed Mölders as well as Galland was the turn-ability of the Spitfire.
  12. They both must be THE icons for WW2 fighter, but I understand Widow's choice - the man is an Englishman through and through.
  13. "Izn't itt? Rak-ak-ak-ak-ak-ak!!!! Mmuahahahaaa!!!"
  14. - checked all ventilators on CPU, GPU, PSC? Made sure they really move? - is the memory enough? does it get very hot?
  15. Okay, guys, I'll keep it going. Thanks, Pol, for bringing it up - you may admit that it is in better use with a Teutonic flyer.
  16. Well-ll... To be honest I stole it from Pol; and he let me get away with it - I think because he stole it before, from some Hollywood Baron, or from Dick Dastardly? Dr.House also stole it, but we don't know from whom... Mwahahahaaa!!!
  17. Yep. "Terrain Detail" is fine on "3" already; "Scenery Detail" on "4". No need to go higher, except if you can. Even lower it will look good. You would want to have "Aircraft" on "5" to have them top notch.
  18. Guys, I really hope this is no wrong-gone "1st April joke" - me olde heart would not survive that!
  19. Correct sheme or not, those are good jobs done, Dej! The effects both give the pictures interesting different touches. One only thought: could you still change the light green on Voss' wing more towards a pale Brunswick (non-dynamic) green? It's better in the lower, but that is still "too much spring green". If you use Photoshop it should be easy for you.
  20. Haha, good point, Hauksbee - I just imagined that with six (block)heads...
  21. I understand what you mean, Widow. No, wait - I don't...
  22. Haha - understandable! I guess one plus for such a crammed cockpit might be, that the pilot's head could not get slammed anywhere far by positive Gs? He could just lean the head against the canopy.
  23. I found these two short videos quite interesting, because they show something that you normally don't see, even when you look at the aircraft from closer on: a comparison of the cockpits of the two most famous WW2 fighter aircraft. First I thought "Boy, what a rant about the Spit..." but then the Messerschmidt received a worse one - best watch both to the end...
  24. If nothing helps, you should write your problem in the "official" OFF forum, so the devs see it. Here is the address: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/89/1/Over_Flanders_Fields.html The second thread from the top: Technical Issues Good luck, Igor!
