  1. A real beauty - like your Border Collie of the same name, Widow!
  2. Didn't mean to start a flame-war, Stratos - sorry if it came across like I did.
  3. Have you ever seen the submarine film "Das Boot"? And if so - did you see both the long TV version (282 minutes), as well as the cinema cut version (143 minutes)? I watched both, and I find that only the long TV version can halfways give you an idea of how submarine warfare really as. The long times without any sun or space, the claustrophobic, unhygienic situation, the feeling of slowly rotting away physically and moralwise; the long time of inactivity that can make anyone want to attack and sink a ship with dozens of men - only to DO something - ANYthing - just to have a meaning. I guess I wouldn't have got all the depth from the first cinema version (I know the Director's Cut was longer then). "Wings Over Flanders Fields" is - more than any other sim I know - made to recall those 4 years of WW1 air combat flying, and wants to put you into the thick clothing, the open cockpit, and the biting cold high up in the empty blue. Wants you to share the good moments as well as the anger, the panik, and the compassion with your comrades. To cut that down to the fighting would be as if you chug a 50 year old fine whiskey - IMHO. It is possible - but so much less rewarding. I guess there are functions like "accelerate time" - I never use them. Another time-saving selection would be "Air start" - you save the climbing-to-altitude time and find yourself at service ceiling with your flight heading to waypoint 1. You can also click on "other flight" (or similar) in the briefing menue, to receive a shorter course. If it's only the fighting you want, you could fly "QuickCombat" and select "Player Stats" in "Workshop", to still receive an outcome debriefing. But the best choice IMHO would perhaps be: allow yourself more time. Have the "real" thing, no less...
  4. Arrgghhh - I hought only the flyers had been afraid to burn alive...
  5. I really just can't remember it - was it really the devs who opened this "contest",? Or wasn't it started by a user?
  6. Lou, the map is looking great so far IMHO - will you fill out the northeastern bit as well? I think a Verdun map should go as far as Metz perhaps? (I'm flying with Jasta 17, and they are based at Metz-Frescaty)
  7. ...and what a witness indeed! Great to actually hear Cecil Lewis speaking about his own WW1 service experiences! Thank you for sharing, Shredward!
  8. No problem, Hauksbee - I'd gladly see you in a campaign. But mind you: it is very hard to survive a longer period of time.
  9. You need to click on "Enlist manually" (or similar) in the lower right corner. Then you can select squadrons and times, as it used to be in OFF. There you also get assigned, while you click through the date and time arrows, which aircraft the unit is flying right now. Proceed or go back, to hit the roland C.II - have fun!
  10. I only know the training, before you get assigned to your unit. You get there, when you select the nationality and all that. There is also a selection for either "pilot training before assignment" or "direct assignment; no training". Select the first, and you'll be fine, Hauksbee. You could also fly a "QuickFlight", and select "Free flight" there, with no opponents.
  11. Corsaire, I did reply - via E-mail, and today via PM, but got no answer.
  12. Me too - Bullet always had interesting contributions to make.
  13. Tony, I would have chosen the same treatment. The other way is still an option, if the first might fail, but I wish you that it works. Haha - as we say in Germany: the good things take a little longher. This should be a good sign - all the best, Tony!
  14. Hauksbee, you are a good egg! I hope it was a replacement act, and you still use a newer version? Nothing can beat the TrackIR cockpit view IMHO.
  15. Thanks, guys! Duke, see if you can save for a new rig, or sell your granny - I have seen that WOFF is definitely worth it!
  16. Time has come to visit my family again. I will be off to East Friesland tomorrow - no, today - at 10:00 h. When I return I will update my system, so I can fly WOFF without stutters and crashes. I'm looking forward to the time, when I will fly my first real carefree campaign! (Cancel the "carefree" - Mwahahahahaaa!!!) My sister has a computer - maybe I can check in for brief visits. See you all in two weeks!
  17. Good to hear from you, Tony. I wish you good strength for the second part, and when it is done, a very good and healthy new year 2014!
  18. I could only spend very little time with WOFF (can only fly more after Xmas holidays), but it was enough to realise, that the new AI is a big multiplier for the immersion factor. It behaves unpredictable, different at different times, or even spontaneous - like a youngster, a hotspur. You never know, if it will act and react smart and cool, or irritated and uncertain, or timid or tired. Is their retreat you witness a reaction of fear or carefulness, or a clever strategy; is it based on orders, or are they only seeking for a better position, a better chance? Are they really flying away, or will they come back and surprise you? So I have not explored WOFF much at all yet, but I'm sure for myself: that new AI alone is definitely worth the price of the sim. They appear to me like real people, like lots of different characters, in varying moods. And that is no less but another dimension of immersion - it is a true art work.
  19. Nope - I put "Center View" on the thumb button of my stick - I need it quick.
  20. Thank you, Capt. - I wish you the same, and a good time in the Rockies! Perhaps you will see a "Rocky Mountain Canary" (or did W. C. Fields fool me there?).
  21. For all old and new Forum-Friends, the whole CA-Team and the OBD Team a merry & peaceful Christmas
  22. I have only made three sorties so far, due to various problems. I was very surprised, that "my good old Albatros" seems to show different flying characteristics now - at least in my configuration the left turn is really nasty - the kite doesn't want to go left round. I guess I will have to find out completely new, how to do it.
  23. No reason to fight pro or con WOFF and RoF here IMHO. What I have seen so far from WOFF, it will be without any comparison for the single-player campaigns. The new AI is miles beyond anything else - they appear like they have their own lives, their own minds, and as if their decisions might be as spontaneous as mine are quite often. And RoF is really good for online-flying and fighting other human flyers. So they both hold their own grounds, I'm sure.
