Merging FE2 with SF2, an experiment.
KJakker posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have done an experiment to get "First Eagles 2" objects into "Strike Fighters 2" and would like to ask if anyone would be willing to try it and corroborate my findings? To do this experiment you first need to own legal copies of both FE2 and SF2 5 full/merged. Next you need to do the following procedure. Copy “AvionicsWWI.dll” and “wwiComm.dll” from “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\First Eagles 2\Flight” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Flight” then do the same for “wwiCambrai.CAT” and “wwiVerdun.CAT” from “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\First Eagles 2\Terrains” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Terrains”. Now for the complicated part, extract everything from your SF2 ObjectData004.CAT, ObjectData005.CAT, ObjectData006.CAT, and ObjectData015.CAT. You will need to place these extracted .TGA files into your MODS directory Decal folder as these CAT files will not be available when you are done. Then take the four ObjectData CAT files that you just extracted everything from, and move them from the “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Objects” folder to a safe backup folder elsewhere on your hard drive. Next copy all four ObjectData CAT files from “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\First Eagles 2\Objects” to a separate safe folder. Once copied, rename the copied FE2 CAT files to match the four CAT files that you removed from the “Strike Fighters 2\Objects” folder, like so… ObjectData001.CAT ----> ObjectData004.CAT ObjectData002.CAT ----> ObjectData005.CAT ObjectData003.CAT ----> ObjectData006.CAT ObjectData004.CAT ----> ObjectData015.CAT Be careful about the renaming due to both the old and new file names having one file named "ObjectData004". Now cut and past the renamed copies into “C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Objects”. We are now done with the Install directory. At this point I recommend that you copy the stock Aircraft, GroundObjects, Guns, and Weapons from your FE2 mod directory and paste them into the SF2 mod directory that you intend to use for the experiment. I have attached the FE2 stock Aircraft, GroundObjects, Guns, and Weapons INI files if you don’t want to go through the trouble of generating them yourself. If all the above worked out, you should have the “First Eagles 2” stock Aircraft, GroundObjects, Guns, Weapons, and Terrain available for use in SF2. Please let me know how this works for you. Note1: You may need to extract everything from the terrain CAT’s “wwiCambrai.CAT” and “wwiVerdun.CAT” into your SF2 mod Terrain folder to fix some terrain issues. Note2: In order to get a fully working FE2 install, not just having the objects, weapons, and terrain available requires a lot more extracting and editing of FE2 INI files for SF2. Patches question

When did you download the four SF2 titles you have? If you downloaded them from the ThirdWire website after July 2013 then your install is already up to date. -

I like Flight of the Intruder. I got to see it once on the military channel's "An Officer and a Movie" with Stephen Coonts as the former officer who discussed the film during the commercial breaks. Flight of the Intruder stands with Hunt for Red October as one of my favorite films of the genre. I really need to take the time to read the book as I have heard that it has about five times the number of missions in it as the film does. It also makes me wish we had a working DIANE system for the A-6 in SF2.

It is the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I did not see a topic on this so I thought I would start one. It is amazing to think that it has been 25 years since this happen. I was 7 years old at the time so I did not really understand the full impact of what it meant when to new was announced. However I do remember my grandfather, who fought as a US Army infantryman in France, Luxenberg, Belgium, Germany, and Austria during WWII, had privately worried that his children or grandchildren would to fight a World War 3 against the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact nations. When the Berlin Wall came down he was so relieved that he had lived long enough to see the end of the Cold War and his grand children would not have to fight in the kind of war that he had. F-5E Early Versions Pack
KJakker replied to Centurion-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
I have a couple of questions. First, in the readme file is says that the "F-5E_74L" has a larger vertical stabilizer than the "F-5E_72". However when I looked at both versions data files the numbers for the VertTail & Rudder are identical. Shouldn't the difference in the size of the vertical stabilizer the two aircraft have produce a slight variation upon the flight characteristics of each version? Second, I also noticed that you have the afterburner using the "JetBurner.wav" sound file. The reason I am mentioning this is that when installing the aircraft I found that I have an "F5AB.wav" file in my sound folder. I checked and the file I have is apparently from the "Northop F-5E Tiger II" & "F-5E Tiger II Sharknose" that paulopanz uploaded. Is the choice of afterburner sound a deliberate artistic choice on you and your team's part? -

This is an updated data file for the Stock Third Wire SBC-125. Adjustments have been made to bring the [DetectSystem] entry in line with SF2:NA. It has been based upon the data used by the TW CVA-63. Also the four Mark 24 Mod 11 5 inch mounts for the 5"/38 Mark 12 guns are now operational. As default they are set to use the stock TW "5IN_MK12" An alternate optional 5 inch gun "5IN_38_MK12_AA" has been included. This gun has been adjusted to be more effective against aircraft. This file has been tested in SF2:NA. -

Is this the original X-wing and Tie Fighter or the X-Wing Collector Series versions which were updated to use the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter graphics engine? -

Here, try the attached modified F-4N_LOADOUT.ini file. It has the entry below added to it so that you can set the AI F-4N's to only carry the navy Mk4 20mm gun pod via the mission editor. [AirToAirGunOnly] Loadout[05].WeaponType=MK4 Loadout[05].Quantity=1 F-4N_LOADOUT.7z -

Where are you trying to upload the file too? Did you navigate through to the proper category via the main upload menu? http://combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&module=post§ion=submit&c= Sometimes if you try an upload straight from the selected category in the download page it can not work.

Dave, what is the monthly operating cost of the site? Just an idea, do you think it might help if there was some kind of display that listed operating cost vs income for each month on the main page so that CA members could be kept aware of the sites funding status? Also I have a Premier Membership but when I checked under Subscriptions my only other option right now is a Platinum Membership. Is there a way to just donate money directly?

Did you try going to "Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution"? That is normally where you go to set up multiple monitors in Windows 7. You might need to use your video cards configuration software like "NVIDIA Control Panel" or "ATI Catalyst Control Center" to set the resolution you need. -

Skip bombing
KJakker replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Wrench, I got my joystick working again and have tested the 500lb_SB with the B-25DS_v2k. The Skip Bombs work well when deployed by the player while making a low altitude high speed attack run but the AI does not seem to want to use them.
