Weapon question
garyscott replied to Monty CZ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If AWAC's can be shut down for a short time due to threat of an ARM attack, then that is in effect the same as a "kill". The desired effect of no AWAC's coverage for opposing forces is as good as a kill - the enemy is blinded, or at least limited in its SA, which can give the aggressor the edge. -
Weapon question
garyscott replied to Monty CZ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Its feasible, but the capability is still in its infancy. Evolving missile guidance designs are converting the anti-radiation missile (ARM) design, pioneered during Vietnam and used to home in against emitting surface-to-air missile (SAM) sites, to an air intercept weapon. Current air-to-air passive anti-radiation missile development is thought to be a countermeasure to airborne early warning and control (AEW&C - also known as AEW or AWACS) aircraft which typically mount powerful search radars. Due to their dependence on target aircraft radar emissions, when used against fighter aircraft passive anti-radiation missiles are primarily limited to forward-aspect intercept geometry. Quote from here - ARM's Air-to-Air A MAR-1 um missile mounted under the wing of an AMX attack fighter of theBrazilian Air Force. More recently, air-to-air ARM designs have begun to appear, notably the Russian Vympel R-27P. Such missiles have several advantages over other missile guidance techniques; they do not trigger radar warning receivers (conferring a measure of surprise), and they can have a longer range (since battery life of the seeker head is the limiting factor on the range of most active radar homing systems). -
Maverick targeting display.

I am having trouble with the displays for any and all EO guided weaponry in SF2 (latest update installed), the cockpit display for instance for Maverick AGM's now only shows the seeker display on a quarter of the cockpit display screen, instead of the full display. Does anyone else suffer this? Or does anyone know what may be the issue and how to rectify it? If you could split a square into 4, then the only part of that display showing the image from the seeker is the top left quarter. The seeker image shows everything its supposed to, but its reduced in size so as to fit the quarter of the display. AGM employment is not affected, just the display. Advice greatly received. Gary -

Heres the same details from my Avionics.INI, [TVDisplayData] UseRadarTexture=TRUE DisplayLimitLeft=1 DisplayLimitRight=127 DisplayLimitTop=1 DisplayLimitBottom=127 ApplyFilter=TRUE FilterMaterial=DTVFilterMaterial OverlayTexture= These values are half of Boostjunky's, could that be a factor? When im able to later, i will test and report back. Gary -

MS Flight Simulator Screen Shot of the Day
garyscott replied to Viggen's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Its the original FS9 version that was AlphaSim, The Virt bird i assume is essentially the same. All repaints are my own work. The F-14 is the IRIS FS9 version. The Tornado is also the IRIS FS9. The C-130 is the CaptainSim / JustFlight FS9 version. -

Strike Fighters 2 Modern Warfare Korea v1.05 Update
garyscott replied to Spectre8750's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Going by real life, you cannot detect something that is homing on you passively, so the only early warning you would get would be via the mark-1 eyeball. I may be wrong. Gary -

Hi, im patched to the latest level, but i cannot get the aircraft to show in SF2? It is installed as per the instructions, yet it is not listed in the selectable aircraft drop-down. Is there another file that i should have that this relies on? -

Free PDF download here of "The Preatorian Starship", a book all about the Hercules Combat Talons! Recommended! http://www.au.af.mil.../au/thigpen.pdf (14.12MB total size, if too slow to load on your PC, then right click the link, and save target to location of your choice, like desktop, and open from there) Gary -
