  1. Very succinctly put.

    Gato class sub.
  3. As a fueler (and a pilot), I've come up with a hell of a solution. Simply give them the planned fuel, none of this 'alternate' or 'reserve' nonsense! Once the engines flame out, they've GOTTA land! And for the disclaimer... just kidding.
  4. sorry, I mean't the deployment method was manual
  5. Set the control type to manual, and the input to 'vectored thrust' I did that on the F-14 a few years back.
  6. I think its the Crusty... CORECTION It's the 'Careless'

Hmm, metal under tension, begging for the touch 'n go... gets my blood pumping at anytime!
  9. This has been discussed many times before. It was NOT a stunt, and the pilot was NOT grounded.
  10. Very, very sad news. Please pass on my thoughts and prayers to his family.
  11. It might of been an uncontrolled field, thus no control tower to talk to, which in turn means you better be on your game to keep things safe!
  12. I know what I'm doing when I get home from work!

    That Facebook-ish one is priceless!
  14. Good point... I thought I had seen pics of said loadout, but couldn't find them... I'm thinking you're right about the wing fold bit.. that's alot of weight, especially @ G.
  15. Maybe this will also help to visualize the issue (just trying to help). Wiki states the thrust of the Pegasus 10 engine as around 19,000#'s. Whereas the Harrier GR 1 weighs: The Pegasus 105 (which versions power the GR7 series) develops 21,500#'s of thrust. And for the AV-8B's, this is straight from the NATOPS
  16. Not to beat you down on this, but landing vertically with two drop tanks (typically EMPTY) can be very different from a vertical take-off with drop tanks (typically FULL). Like FC said, ya gotta crunch the numbers
  17. Downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Don't know about the ordnance statistics from Allied Force... but something tells me that a microwave oven isn't going to defeat a missile... especially if the power grid happens to be destroyed.
  18. The real planes have better engines, highly trained pilots, and water injection, but they are still limited as to what loads they can carry for a vertical take-off. Most of the time they use a short, rolling take-off.
