SupGen replied to Brennus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have a feeling I'm learning something new again, my head hurts. -
Did anyone notice the SimHQ link is gone from the ThirdWire community page? That sure didn't take no two weeks!

Menu X (ODS)
SupGen replied to Brennus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Brennus, only thing is 7Z seems unable to open Menu Music002. Opened everything else fine. Music seems to work fine, though. -
Kind of a rhetorical question, but...has anyone else tried these? ( I know some of you have.) These are an outstanding addition to the SF2 series, it's been crying out ( screaming ) for something like this for years. I don't know about you guys, but that "Da-duh-dun-duh-duh, Da-duh-dun-duh-duh." was driving me crazy! Ever since I first tried the Sound Mod for the Vietnam Expansion Pack I wondered why someone hadn't done something similar for the rest of the series. ( Tried something on my own, only to find I knew nothing about wav. files or anything else necessary ). The screens also are top notch and almost make it feel like a different, more modern, sim. Anyway, if you haven't tried these, my advice is do it now, you won't be dissapointed.

Venting and Ranting
SupGen replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Okay, obviously going to get the crap beat out of me here, but...A) Before I get started, don't any body even think about calling me a "fan boi", I served in the g## d###ed Army Infantry back in the 70's-in Alaska-in a leg unit. I ain't a fan boi of s###. However, I'm finding the negative energy spiral that exists on this thread pretty funny. B) Old Diego, you are an (the?) old hand here, and I respect and appreciate everything you've done to add to this sim but, when you say people who post at ThirdWire are directed here, why do you think that is? It's because the guys with the answers are here. I don't recall anyone ever saying "uh, TK, uh you know, we'd appreciate if you didn't do that, cause, you know, we're tired of answering questions"? Far from not appreciating the people here, I think he relies on them. Ditto for him not doing things that some of the guys here do in a "couple of hours." Three guys vs. how many? C) Wish lists? C'mon, who the f### ever gets what they want? Ya know what? That would actually be me. I've got Tomcats that can lock up six targets at once, no TW A-6's but HomeFries mod for the stock ones with the Razbaam pits pthbbt, who needs stock?D) Which brings me to another point, "locking up the lods". When I fly in NA I don't fly the TW Cat I fly one of the TMF Tomcats. It's a better plane and Olie didn't need the TW lods to make it. The F14A dll. that came as part of NA though, is what allowed Olie's dream to come to fruition.E) Bugs. Not pointing any fingers, but, check out some of the posts in this thread alone, imagine if you were trying to write thousands or millions of lines of code? Bring on the proofreaders! F) Lastly,(thank god, right?) multiplayer. WTF? Ever play multi in Aces High? Turned me off that forever. A hundred a##holes flying around shooting anything that moves for the points. Last I checked, there are no points given in RL air combat. One of the things that attracted me to SF2 was just that, the AI may be dumb,(but getting smarter every day) but they won't stab you in the back. A structured, semi-realistic air combat enviornment. Alright, rant over for now.(Dave did say to rant, didn't he?). -
I happened to be watching an old Discovery:Wings program(on YouTube)today and they mentioned the Russian(through deck cruiser)Minsk slipping through the Bosporus. Has anyone given any serious thought to what would almost certainly be occuring concurently with the September 1979 Northern Sabre campaign-a Soviet Black Sea Fleet breakout through the Straits and into the Med? Any units of the U.S. Sixth Fleet that could be tied down defending the Mediterraen would be a major plus for the Soviet prosecution of Northern Sabre, and Soviet sucess would threaten several Nato allies, and, depending on how things went in each theater, perhaps force a Nato retreat to the Straits of Gibralter.(or beyond?). Maybe one of our campaign gurus(that ain't me) might be interested?

Happy Birthday!

Dave, there is one small, but rather important, typo in the Block30's Loadout file. Under AirToAir_2008, the StartDefaultDate reads 208. This substantialy predates everything else in the file, and in fact the plane, the game, and us too! As you can imagine, this kinda porks certain things, the Bronze Age AMRAAMS just don't work as well as the newer ones.

Flightengine and N.A.
SupGen replied to bandina's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You only need it in the Flight folder if you want to change something in it, otherwise the game will read from the one happily residing in the FlightCat folder in the main game install.(Usually Program Files X86/ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2) -

Make sure you get the updates, too. You might want to try these for the Aim-54's. -
aim-54 problem
SupGen replied to firehawk66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well, if there's no weapons folder in NA, then most likely you're using the Thirdwire Tomcats and Aim-54A's. Kinda weird, I had no problem with the stock Aim-54, as I said their values for accuracy etc. seemed quite high, almost what you would expect from a later version like Aim-54C or CE. You can take a look at those if you extract the WeaponsData ini. from ObjectDataCat1. By the way, if you don't already have it, get the TomcatsSuperPackV.1.8, Tomcats Combined Flight Model Update, and Tomcats Avionics Update Apr2012, These bring the TMF Tomcats up to NA standard. -
aim-54 problem
SupGen replied to firehawk66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Firehawk, which Aim-54's are you using? Thirdwire or Mirage Factory?(The one's that came with the Tomcats Superpack.) I had similar problems with the TMF Aim-54A's, they seem seriously underwhelming in the areas of accuracy, noise rejection, and counter-counter measures, while Thirdwires seem almost like magic bullets. I edited the TMF Aim-54 ini's to achieve a happy medium and improvement from Aim-54A to Aim-54CE. If that's your problem let me know and I'll post it here. -
