Spanish Civil War, NiD 52, 2 Pack uploaded
Stephen1918 replied to Stephen1918's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
A couple of years ago, I uploaded a (Fake) Spanish terrain for FE. It's not geographically correct, but it has 1930's era ground objects and airfields. I also made some tanks and armored cars for the Spanish Civil War. They're both in the First Eagles, Golden Era downloads section. Gterl was working on a terrain for SCW, I don't know where he stands on that. -
I have uploaded two versions of the Hispano-Neiuport NiD 52 - one for each side. More than 100 NiD 52's were produced in Spain between 1930 and 1933. A little more than 50 remained in service when the Civil War started and were used by both sides in the early months of the war. It was a decent fighter, but slow and not as nimble as later planes. It could hold its own against a Breguet or another Nieuport, but it facing a Heinkel will be a challenge. Nevertheless, it was an important addition to both sides until better planes became available. The download includes both versions of the plane with appropriate skins and decals, a functional cockpit, and a gun sight which can be attached via the loadout. My skinning templates are included. My thanks to Ojcar who made the FM and who made the necessary file adjustments to use the gun sight. (The gun sight was originally included with Emld's Neiuport 24 Lewis, I have included it with this download in case you don't already have it.)

I have uploaded a new version of the Heinkel He.51 (administrator approval still pending.) The new version is identical in every way to the old one, but it includes a gun sight. Ojcar has made the necessary changes to the Weapon Stations and Loadout to attach the gun sight which came with Emld's Neiuport 24 Lewis. I have included the gun sight with the download in case you don't already have it.

View File Spanish Civil War, NiD 52 - 2 Pack In 1928, Spain purchased a license to produce the Nieuport-Delage NiD 52. The Spanish version was produced at the Hispano-Suiza factory at Guadalajara and was known as the Hispano Nieuport NiD 52. It had an all metal frame with cloth covering over the wings and parts of the fuselage. It was powered by a V12, 500 hp engine, and was armed with two Vickers machine guns mounted in the fuselage. The Spanish version was slower than expected and was considered difficult to fly. About 125 were produced between 1930 and 1933. 56 remained in service at the beginning of the Civil War; most of them remained in government (Republican) hands, only 11 went to the rebel (Nationalist) forces. Although it was an unpopular plane, the Nid 52 was an important fighter until better planes became available. I have made two versions of the Hispano Nieuport NiD 52 - one for each side. Each version has a functional cockpit, appropriate skins, and decal sets. My skinning templates are included with the download. Credits Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the NiD 52. Ojcar has added a gunsight to the NiD 52. He made a weapon station and loadout to add the gunsight which came with Emld's Nieuport 24 Lewis. I am including the gunsight with this download. Instructions for installing it are included in a separate file. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file. Move the folders named "NatNid52" and "RepNiD52" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file. Move the folders named "NatNiD52" and "RepNiD52" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create two new folders named "NatNiD52" and "RepNiD52". Move the folder named "D" from your Aircraft/NiD52 folders into the appropriate Decals/NiD52 folders you just made. WIP - Hispano-Nieuport NiD 52
Stephen1918 replied to Stephen1918's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
It does have a triplane look. I think the platform between the wheels is there to reduce drag on the structure that holds the wings, I doubt if it adds any lift. -
For the Spanish Civil War - The NiD 52 was a French designed plane built under license in Spain in the early 30's. It was used by both sides (mostly by the Republican forces) during the Civil War. I am making a version for each side. The model, decals, and skins are finished. The cockpit is built but I've only just started the skins for it. And I still have a lot of work to do with the FM, damage, etc.

Spanish Civil War - Heinkel He.51
Stephen1918 replied to Stephen1918's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yes! Coupi posted screenshots of the Bf 109 flying in FE2 in another thread. And I have pointed out that in the SF1 downloads area - Russouk2004 has a Messerschmitt Bf.109 Pasko has a Junkers Ju87 Stuka Russouk2004 has a DH82 Tigermoth Raven has a Fiesler Fi156 Storch With the new controls that Ojcar told us about, all those planes should work well in the FE Spanish Civil War. -
Today, thanks to a lot of help from Ojcar, I uploaded the Heinkel He.51 for the Spanish Civil War. The Heinkel was a one man, biplane fighter introduced in 1935 and used by the Nationalists throughout the war. There are a lot of pieces to install, but in the end you'll have a new 7.9 mm machine gun, a new German 10 lb bomb and a drop tank. The download includes a camo skin, decals, a fully functional cockpit, and my skinning templates. Ojcar found the 7.9mm machine gun in his SF install, but doesn't know who made it. I decided to use it anyway. If anyone knows who made the machine gun for SF, please let me know and I will give credit. Ojcar also taught me how to add controls to First Eagles so you can make the drop tank drop with a keystroke. He also included other features, like flaps, landing gear, wheel brakes, etc. so we can use some of the Strike Fighter planes in FE. I have included instructions in the download.

View File Spanish Civil War, Heinkel He.51 The Heinkel He.51 was introduced in 1935. It was a German, one man biplane with a V-12, 750 hp engine. It was developed as a fighter and carried two machine guns mounted in the fuselage. The He.51 began serving in the Spanish Civil War in 1936, used by the Nationalists, and was used by both Spanish and German (Legion Condor) squadrons. The He.51 was a superior plane at first, but was soon outclassed by newer Soviet planes. It was then used as a ground attack plane and served in that role until the end of the war. My Heinkel He.51 includes a basic camo skin, decals, a fully functional cockpit, fuel tank, and a 10kg bomb. Instructions for installing the fuel tank and bomb are included in a separate file. I have included my skinning templates with the download. Credits Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Heinkel He.51, and for providing resources and advice, especially for the weapons. Ojcar has found the data for a more accurate machine gun, we don't know where it came from, but I am including the data for the 7.9mm_MG17 machine gun for your use. Instructions for installing the gun are included in a separate file. Ojcar has added a gunsight to the He.51. He made a weapon station and loadout to add the gunsight which came with Emld's Nieuport 24 Lewis. I am including the gunsight with this download. Today I posted the Spanish version of the DH.9 in the First Eagles, Golden Era download section. During the 1920's Hispano-Suiza made about 500 DH.9's for the Spanish Air Force. About 25 were still in service when the Spanish Civil War started in 1936 and were used by both the Republican and Nationalist forces. I made two versions, one for each side, with appropriate skins, decals, and bomb loadouts. Bombs and skinning templates are included with the download. Installation instructions for both FE1 and FE2 are included.

I have a Heinkel He-51 in the works, the cockpit and the FM still need a lot of work. Then I need to gather everything, make screens, make holes, etc. to make it ready for upload. So, still a month or so. I'll finish the DH 9 first, since that's a WWI plane which I've already made, it will get a new fuselage and engine to reflect the Spanish produced version. The DH 9 should be finished in a week or so. My point in starting this discussion is to make a First Eagles version of the Spanish Civil War, so no, let's not move to the Strike Fighters forum. It is possible to get at least some Strike Fighter planes to fly in FE (I use FE 1 by the way ) - you'll need to change the pilots, guns, and bombs to those available in FE, and make new skins. For some planes you'll need to add lines to the controls ini to make the landing gear, brakes, flaps, etc. work. I saw a list of commands somewhere in the FE forums, I think it was in Geezer's Spanish Civil War thread, but I can't find it now. Of course you should get permission from the original modder - or maybe provide a link to their download along with your changes.

Thanks Wilches. In addition to the standard insignia and tail flashes, there were a lot of squadron and personal markings used throughout the civil war. It would help other modders if you made some decal sets and uploaded them to the FE Golden Era Download section. Ojcar posted this link some time ago with some good reference material to help you get started: http://bioold.science.ku.dk/drnash/model/Spain/codes.html

As many of you have pointed out, the Spanish Civil War represents an interesting time period when the planes and the tactics were evolving. There was an unusual mixture of planes being used and there were times when clearly obsolete types were being flown against the latest developments in aircraft engineering. Putting the politics aside, the SCW has a lot of potential and I'm glad that Geezer introduced the idea to us. However, we have a long way to go before we have a usable game. So far we have a placeholder terrain, some tanks, and LloydNB made some skins - but we only have three planes. If you want SCW to happen, you'll each have to bring your own talents to it. The Strike Fighters download section has some planes that would help fill out the roster. For SF1, I have noticed a Messerschmitt Bf.109, a Junkers Ju87, a DH82 Tigermoth, and a Fiesler Fi156 Storch, all of which were used in the Spanish Civil War. There may be more. If you guys want to get the necessary permissions and do the conversions, we could get SCW up and running quicker. We can always make improvements as we go. If we work together we can make this happen.
