Ecuador, Northwest South America (1981-1998)
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Before someone asks this, the terrain will crash to dektop with certain mission types, if you don't install all the Ecuadorian and Peruvian aircraft available here at CombatACE. I would like to provide a complete list, but I can't ATM. Just use CombatACE's search bar to find all the appropriate airplanes.- 6 replies

Hi, please do not post questions here, send me a PM or post any questions at this link: https://combatace.com/forums/topic/92329-ecuador-northwest-south-america-1981-1998/ At the moment I have no interest on making a Venezuela terrain. To make new terrains takes a lot of free time, those things don't grow on trees. We'll see what the future brings.

Timor, North Oceania (1950-2018)
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Thanks for the question. No, that missing .bmp does not affect the terrain at all. A LocationMap bitmap was included in the stock IsraelME terrain; it's similar to a water bitmap, but with various parts of the terrain coloured differently according to the country/nation, I think. With no such bitmap, the terrain works flawlessly, so don't worry. I just added that string in case I will care to add a LocationMap bitmap in the future. -

All pilots, scramble! New terrains inbound!
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You know? The original idea I had for this terrain was that of a proxy war against drug cartels and/or political rebels getting support from the outside, but it was limited to the years 1994-2018. In the end I decided to expand the timeframe so that it now includes the Cold War, starting from 1968. Of all the terrains I made, this one is the most adapt for many what ifs, so users are not limited to what I imagined. The terrain uses the Desert.CAT terrain as a base, and that terrain comes with the basic Strike Fighters 2. However, you can replace which stock terrain .CAT archive to use for all custom terrains. For instance, open the TexasASC.ini file with Notepad; you'll find: [Terrain] TerrainFullName=Texas, American South Central (1968-2018) DataFile=TexasASC_DATA.INI TargetFile=TexasASC_TARGETS.INI TargetTypeFile=TexasASC_TYPES.INI ... CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat Just change the CatFile to use the stock terrain you have. If you have SF2 Europe, you'll have the GermanyCE terrain, so CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat The only stock terrain that can't be used as a base is the IcelandNA terrain that comes with SF2 North Atlantic. Word of advise: replacing .CATs as I showed works most of the time. However, each .CAT archive is different. The Desert one contains certain buildings which are not present in other terrains. By using another .CAT other than the default one can result in small bugs and glitches (such as you're given to bomb a bridge, but there is no 3d model for it). But this does not prevent you to try all the custom terrains the community has created! So my advise is to buy the SF2 title you prefer, but avoid SF2NA as you cannot use its terrain as a base for the custom terrains. -

@FRPignon Can I ask you, why did you hijack my thread and removed yours (https://combatace.com/topic/83063-europe-total-war-1979/) which you had created to show this terrain? IMHO there was no need to act like this. Just basic rules of the internet. -

Texas, American South Central (1968-2018) Terrain August 13th, 2018 (1st Release) by Menrva >For Strike Fighters 2, Recommended Full-5 Merged This is a new, scratch-made terrain inspired by the original, smaller ASW terrain made by krfrge and reworked by Wrench. The terrain covers to a good extent the American State of Texas, as well as some Mexican States. Major rivers and a number of lakes have been hand-tiled and mimic Real World courses. Numerous target areas, such as civilian airports and onshore and offshore oil fields, have been added in order to expand playability, targets of opportunity and year range. This terrain features a fresh new 250m resolution heightmap (instead of the stock 500m resolution), allowing for greater details and precision in elevation changes; overall it provides the whole terrain with a better look. The terrain spans from October 3, 1968 to December 31, 2018; it is designed for a fictional scenario where Mexico is invaded by an alliance of Central American countries (namely Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala) supported by the Russians; the remnant of the Mexican military flees to the U.S. and fights alongside North American forces. However, users are encouraged to recreate whatever scenario they like, even outside the given time frame. Targets reflect Real World events as accurately as possible; for instance, some airfields and Mexican oil platforms will appear only after a certain year, according to historic changes. If you have SF2NA, American naval fleets can spawn in the Gulf of Mexico. All main targets have been placed accurately in their Real World locations. Ground Objects are not included. It's up to the user to find and obtain anything that can be useful for the proposed terrain's scenarios. >Credits (in no particular order): -krfrge, for creating the ASW terrain from which I drew inspiration; he also produced a tutorial for recreating SF2-like planning maps, which prompted me to work on templates and my own high quality planning maps. Thank you very much! -Wrench, for he reworked the original ASW terrain with additional targets. -swambast, who provided me with invaluable help in tracking and fixing common and uncommon bugs. -gerwin, whose TFDtool has proved to be essential in today's terrain making. If the terrain is pretty accurate to RL it's also because of him. I included his very nice Airfield 7+8 Addon Pack, too. -mue, for the improved shaders he made, which I have included and reworked for the terrain, and for the tools he made for SF2 modding. -luk1978, for the waternormal bitmap he shared at the SF2 screenshots thread. Your mods are very interesting! -MigBuster, I have included some of his great hi-res textures for runways. -Stary, for the hi-res tileset he made for the original ASW terrain. -Polak, for a few tiles I borrowed and reworked from his old PRDesert2 tileset. -Gepard, for his great tutorials about terrain making, in the SF1 Knowledge Base at CombatACE. It's a gold mine! -comrpnt, for his Approach and Airfield Lighting Pack mod packages for SF1 series, which I reworked and included. Although scratch-made, the terrain makes use of most objects and target layouts from Wrench's reworked ASW terrain; because of this, I included the ReadMe files from his original packages, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not. >Disclaimer: This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages. Any changes to the terrain package's files and/or any copy-and-paste attempts of their contents are NOT authorized if you plan to release them in other mods. But permission might be granted to those who request it to me at CombatACE. This terrain may NOT in any way, shape or form be used in any payware additions.-

Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Gents, the world needs your dogfighting skills for another conflict in... Timor, North Oceania (1950-2018) Indonesia is testing its boundaries, putting pressure on the nearby East Timor. China is also keeping an eye on the situation. The combined military units of Australia and New Zealand are on station to repulse any threat in the area. -

A situation is developing south of the Equator. Pilots, check your planes and prepare for refueling. We're heading to... Ecuador, Northwest South America (1981-1998) Border tensions between Ecuador and Peru have escalated, and both sides are increasing their military presence along the Cordillera del Cóndor area and Cenepa Valley. -
Converting SF1 GUI To SF2
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Yeah, I know what you mean! Such details would have added much to the game. This "basic" menu mod of mine has the advantage of being adapt for different eras, by being generic. From late WW2 to nowadays, even though it may look dated. To me it feels more like going through the pages of aviation history. You create a pilot, you choose a scenario and campaign as to experience a part of history. EAW could have more details by being limited just to WW2, like Jane's being limited to the 90s/today/future. LOL, why's that? It's what is used on the original SF1 menu screens. Anyway, it's very simple to change Comic Sans with another font. However, it must be a font which is present on most PCs, so I cannot use something particular. Just the basic MS fonts like Arial, Impact, etc. -
Position Coordinates and the Offset Coordinates numbers
Menrva replied to umm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The offset coordinates can be obtained via TFDtool. Just move to the center of the target (what you call Position Coordinates); the offset is an offset, meaning how much distant that object is from the center of the target. Just read the .html file included in TFDtool, it should explain more. Discover all of the functions. I have learned much from experimenting. Don't forget to zoom in, in TFDtool: only if you zoom in, you can see all of the objects of a target area, as blue/red dots. -

Download gerwin's TFDtool and open the terrains with it. You'll understand everything then. My word! -
But...but...no one Told me I Could fly a CF-105 !!
Menrva replied to Arrow's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
SF2NA is not necessary, so you can start with SF2E. Some terrains use new features of SF2NA, like spawning naval fleets and off map airbases which the AI can use for long range bombers. The Alaska terrain does have some off map airbases to compensate for the modest number of Soviet airbases (just two!). But even without SF2NA, it should work with no issues. Also, just wait before you download the mentioned terrain packages. I'm going to upload new versions of them in a few days! -
But...but...no one Told me I Could fly a CF-105 !!
Menrva replied to Arrow's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I just said so because it's safer to have all the titles, to have a larger plane selection for the AI to use. But in the case of Alaska and Sweden, you can have just SF2 Europe. I also recommend SF2 North Atlantic as some of my terrain packages make use of SF2NA features. BTW, the terrains you mentioned are high quality remakes of old ones; for instance, Alaska is a remake of the Danger Bering Straits terrain by Major Lee. But you can read this in the ReadMe files. -

Thanks to fellow KJakker, I managed to track down the bug and I fixed the campaign screen! It now works flawlessly. I will continue to polish this menu mod and eventually release it. At least, I am going to make someone happy with it (Wrench, looking at you! ) -
All pilots, scramble! New terrains inbound!
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yeah. Actually, I could have added it as an Off Map Airbase, but there are large airbases for heavy bombers already on the terrain. There's also room for many civilian airports, but I didn't have time nor will to expand it. Anyway, we'll see what the future brings... -
Liaoning Aircraft carrier mod?
Menrva replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
As Wrench has said, then I think there's no problem to release it. Marcfighters is going to take the credit for the 3d model in any case. We take care of our CA family. -
limit of # of planes?
Menrva replied to savagkc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
There's no such thing. I should have more than 1,200 planes, and all show up correctly. Make sure you have installed them in the right folders. Inside the Aircraft folder there should be the main folders of all aircraft, the only sub-folders being those of skins and eventually the cockpit. Not all mods you download from CombatACE are simple copy and paste. Sometimes you also have to check if folders have small spelling mistakes. Also, a plane is flyable only if it has a cockpit referenced in its main .ini file, you have a _cockpit.ini file and the relative cockpit folder. -

Alternate TFD Terrain Tilemap editor/viewer
Menrva replied to gerwin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
This filter could be useful indeed! If you have spare time to work on it, I strongly support this. AFAIK, the Angola terrain we have here at CombatACE has too many duplicate entries. Another interesting filter (but I guess it's much difficult to implement) would be to re-order all the valid entries at the beginning of the _data.ini, and to move the void ones at the end. But then again, there's the TFD, a beast to tame. The Angola terrain is a good test-case for the filters IMHO. The game has no problems to use duplicate entries. It's just the TE that causes issues with them. As you already said, it should be noted that TFDtool cannot fix terrains with a poor start in the TE. Sometimes it's better to start from scratch. But the mentioned filters could make things easier. -
Converting SF1 GUI To SF2
Menrva replied to Menrva's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I don't remember, Wrench. The .CAT should be MenuData though. It makes the game CTD, no matter what. Granted that the SF2 CampaignScreen is different, contains different parameters and so the SF1 version must be updated. But apparently, even with all proper fixes, I fail to make it work. I have no idea how to find the culprit. All other screens work properly, and look beautiful! If I manage to fix everything, I'd really like to release it. The title of the main menu screen is "Strike Fighters: Wings Over World" (once I tried "Wings Over War"), in honor to the WOE/WOV/WOI series. I find it fitting for those who have a large mod folder spanning different world scenarios. I forgot to mention that I'm also using all music tracks from the SF games. If there's a screen without music in the original SF2 GUI, here you have a unique track for each screen! -
