1977Frenchie replied to 1977Frenchie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi CL, You mean this ? :) Of course i would not missed them, got the scale model on my desk! But not sure the red tip tail was really on this scheme? As you all see, add some decals on the skin and hope to release this in the weekend. ''blanks will follow soon after! -

Almost 100% satisfied with the Bee. There is a slight adjustment to be made on it. I skinned the wings, fuselage, tail, pylons, engine cone, engine, props and the inside of the airbrakes. I will put 2 ''blank'' skin alongside the VA-176 one when i will put it for download so it will be a base for everyone to work on. -

question regarding GIMP program
1977Frenchie posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi All, I was putting aside some skinning of aircraft due to lack of time and programs that were giving my headaches... Now i finally decided to try GIMP as it seems to be one used by many here and i was tired of seiing my work done destroyed by poor file rendering after saving it... And wow, i love this program as a lot of things can be done with it without much effort. Now my question : Is there a way in it to select a part of the drawing and replace everything similar with another ''image''. Exemple, a square of 4 units x 4 units plain and have the same thing, but round. The main thing here is that i went from a 512x512 skin in BPM and i now have it in 2048x2048 in JPG and my rivets are like... yeuk :) See image as it speaks for itself :) I would like to quick solve my rivets so a lot can be done quicker then having to copy/paste the whole thing. Thanks in advance for your inputs! -
question regarding GIMP program

Thanks russouk for sharing the file. Checked also your little tutorial and found i could do almost the same thing in GIMP. I still have a lot to do as my skin was made in Microsoft paint (i know this really sucks). Bur hey, we talk of a skin made bout 6 years ago... :) I have redone my rivets tonight on both wings and part of the fuselage and they are fine for me now. So what's left is patience and time to copy paste every rivets that needs to be done and do some others changes Hope to have a really nice bird to show soon to you all! -
question regarding GIMP program

I know that Wrench, and you recently made beautiful one's. But there is a particular one i made years ago in BMP on a 512x512 scale VA-176 with the Bee). I just want to convert it in 2048x2048 JPG and adding a lot of detail and if i have the will to do it, completely redo the skin. As said, a lot have been already done, but there is still work to do. Plus, i plan to do a ''fresh'' skin, right out of paint box shop :) -

Then i have to make time a friend of mine :) Having done the wings, part of the fuselage i'm okay to do a decent job :) Will take a little bit more time, but sure some here will like the result of my first skin (at least I will love it) -

I'm not doing them point by point, but by lines of points as you said Nyghtfall. I looking to get a quicker way to do them, so less time consuming :) I will check if Gimp as the option you have in Photoshop. Thanks for the input. -
Nvidia no longer working after windows 10 update
1977Frenchie posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi Guys, Since last windows 10 update, seems my Nvidia card encountered some problems. First was no longer recognized and no Nvidia programs were working anymore. Couls even not run the upgrade for drivers. Uninstalled everything related to Nvidia and downloaded the Nvidia experience and ta dah! my 840M was recognized! But with old drivers as it seems the update is still not working... Now, my problem is that in World of Warships i can run the game well with my Nvidia Card, bu my SF2 game don't see it... It seems also that the Nvidia control panel has gone with this update and it was by that program i instructed to run my SF2 game with my graphic card. Kid of lost here, have you got such problems and any way to solve this? Thanks in advance! -
Nvidia no longer working after windows 10 update
1977Frenchie replied to 1977Frenchie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I played the game as Saisran told, but no change. I uninstalled everything from Nvidia and performed a clean install. Card recognized, but not in SF2. Ultimate test, get back to my restore point BEFORE the damn update have been applied and everything was back to normal (control panel is accessible and can now tell the game to run with the Nvidia Card. Re-installed the Win10 update manually, checked again and it is still working as it is supposed to. (Nvidia Card is recognized in my SF2 game. So i guess the problem came from the update install as after the restart i checked the grapics option and Nvidia was telling me to restart again to activate the video card?!? I did just that and Ta dah! BUT, when i click on my desktop icon of my ''merged install'' SF2 game, seems to only see the ''regular merged game... Will make a new shortcut and see if it works. Had this problem on my first Win10 install, but don't remember how i solved it :) Will then install back the GeForce Experience program and everything should be just fine... -

Could try that Fubar, but two question : 1- (The noob one) : Can you write me where to go and what command to type to do that? 2- (Technical one) : If after disabling it it don't work, will i loose ''sight'' (no graphic card equals nothing...)? Thanks! -

ALT-D and the in game hud HUD question...
1977Frenchie replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Graphic card and or adding Ram will help. Having a cpu with multi core might help also. I experience game loop of 3 and 4 when using time compression up to 4x. above that this is hell :) I tried once a time compression of 32x and got a game loop of 128 (ouch). But game was ''fluid'' but don't try to turn while doing that (believe me). I can't run up the game to full détails as with the expansion packs and HD add-ons i had to lower everything in order to play. Next notebook will handle that no problem. But for now, my GE Force 880M handle pretty well the game (dual core PC with 8G of RAM). -
Fighter Pilots talking about intercepting planes during 9-11
1977Frenchie replied to Skyviper's topic in Military and General Aviation
Even in Canada, there was some stressfull events. My father in law was in an helicopter going back from northern Québec and he received the order to go down.. it went like : Flight Controller : Helo inbound at 275, 35 miles you are instructed to land now. Helo : Will be in airport in 10 minutes. Flight Controller : Negative helo, you land NOW. Helo, Negative, all trees here, can't make it. Flight Controller : You either land by yourself in the next seconds, or a CF-18 will make you land. Helo : Copy that, found a place to land. He stayed there for 2 hours before giving permission to take off and make it to town... He learned later what happened and why he had to land right away... -
F-18 Flight Training Landing in Civilian Airport (LAX)
1977Frenchie replied to Skyviper's topic in Military and General Aviation
The shown have not been cancelled (in Canada) as i watched it :) There were about 8 episodes and they followed pilot on training for the CF-188 (if i remember well, 6 graduated for the Hornet, and 1 failed on the G tests and been linked to another type of aircraft). One of them was the first RCAF women pilot to intercept a Tu-95 in Canadian northern sky. Was a great show btw. This particular episode was a training flight from Cold Lake to LAX airport to have a go at what is going on in a busy airport, and passed a few days there to relax as they were in the final stages of their formation. -
wingman 1-4 never does anything... AI help?
1977Frenchie replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Same Problem here. I am ordering my wingman (1-2) to engage and he does. When askin to flight 2 (1-3 and 1-4), only the 1-3 know what to do. Usually the 1-4 only follow the 1-3. The only thing i saw over time, is that 1-4 will engage if 1-3 have been put out of combat (destroyed). -

What free tools are you using?
1977Frenchie posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi to all modders down here! I used to do skins just for fun back in the days of Pacific Fighters, but now i would like to attack some birds in SF2, especially doing RACF one's. I am far from beiing an expert but i will need a few basic tips :) First, there is WAY too much BMP's in the root and i would like to change them to PNG or JPG. I do know how to do this in a ''batch'' with Office Picture Manager. But what are you using to change the entries in the LOD files so the change can take effect? Do i have to do something in the .SHD, .TGA and .TOD files also? Second, is there a very easy tool to use for skinning in order to do smooth lines, effects, etc? Does the default program in Win10 could do the job? Thanks for your help guys! -
Whats better? BMP vs JPG?
1977Frenchie replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Besides changing the BMP to JPG files in the terrain/map folder, do you have to tell that somewhere? Like changing a log from image.bmp to image.jpg so it will load out. Does the same apply to the objects? -
Loosing Vietnam war. Calling for help!
1977Frenchie replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
There is no IFF, but you can do Ctrl+R on your lock target to know what aircraft you will have locked. This will work if you have full HUD. Of course, if you use minimum HUD, you will know right away :) -
Loosing Vietnam war. Calling for help!
1977Frenchie replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The Vietnam campaigns are the most challenging one's in my opinion. Further more if you installed the mods and everything... The F-4 is not a dogfight aircraft as the others said. The trick in to shoot your sparrows as soon as you have a lock (and keep the lock as this missile need a lock to track target) and tell your wingies to engage air targets. As for the Aim-9, the B version is real shit (i don't mount them anymore as i have about 1 hit per 30 shoots). The D version is more reliable. The other thing to NEVER forget is not cutting your speed. Keep it fast because you can't engage Fresco or Fishbed with a Phantom in a dogfight, you will loose... If you get caught in a dogfight with a Fresco, put the AB on and go low, VERY low like 50-100ft. There is great chance that he will egress from combat so you will be able to build speed and get away. Against a Fishbed, AB on, fly straight and hope for the best. I flew many missions in these campaigns and love them, especially the one's flew with a A-1 over Hanoi :) Personnaly, i tried a ''career'' with a pilot a while ago to see how long he would survive. He died on it's 86th mission over Vietnam when he crashed prior to trap on the carrier (stupid stall) :) -
Intruder woes
1977Frenchie replied to yubba's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi Yubba, For the bombing, i start at about 10k altitude and at 10 miles i go in a slow descent. I usually drop at about 6 miles from target, 7k altitude and my hit percentage is about 90% (but i had to practice that A LOT to get there). If you have the little bombing crossair it is really easy to hit, even more if you remove the cockpit from you FOW. If you do level bombing it gets frustrating more often then not. As for the landing, there is no secret. I usually cut throttle to 20%, full flaps out with the airbrakes out. I slightly move my view to the left and a little up as by this way a see more easely the deck.
