Hello everyone, It has been a long time since I have flown SF2 series sim. I am now back after seeing the news about SF2 being updated for Windows 10. I also missed flying SF2, I have been going through a very busy life. Now that I am balancing the times between hobbies, work, and living. I am wiping whole SF2 series installations and start over from scratch. I am truly overwhelmed by steer many amounts of mods available for SF2, especially with the fact that the modders are still enjoying modding and flying SF2. It is truly awesome to see that here! It has been decided that --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the questions. (QUESTIONS #1) I want to know how people manage the aircraft list for a multi nation in a multi-SF2 installations? I'll use F-15s as an example, it has F-15s for USAF, USN, HAF, IDF, and another countries. Since there are no features I am aware of in SF2 that would filter the aircraft list based on the nations yet. So if I install over 100+ flyable planes in SF2, i would have to scroll through a long list trying to find out which countries have the specific aircraft. I am thinking about doing this way: 1) Rename each aircraft in .ini to start with each nation's military branch abbreviation. Let's use F-15 as an example. [Regular SF2 aircraft list] F-15A Eagle F-15B Eagle F-15C Eagle F-15D Eagle F-15E Strike Eagle F-15I Ra'am (Thunder) F-15K Eagle etc... I am considering re-naming all F-15's ini file, in order, for all F-15s to appear as this way: JASDF F-15DJ Eagle JASDF F-15J Eagle IDF F-15I Ra'am (Thunder) RSAF F-15S Eagle ROKAF F-15K Eagle USAF F-15A Eagle USAF F-15B Eagle USAF F-15C Eagle USAF F-15E Strike Eagle etc... That way I can easily scroll through the list sorted by nations, then aircraft. What is your opinion about this? Questions #2: I have noticed that with the add-on aircraft, there are many multi-nations skins for the specific aircraft. For example, MiG-21F; I saw the skins for multi countries for one aircraft. I am planning on making the copies of MiG-21F (And edit their nation and ordinance in aircraft's data.ini) and rename the folder as: MiG-21F_RU MiG-21F_India MiG-21F_Syria etc... Then divide the skins into unique MiG-21Fs, that way I can easily load a specific nation's MiG-21F with their own default skins, along with their additional skins. However, I still am wondering how SF2 handle multi-national aircraft. Would my method be obsolete if there is a better way? How do people handle multi-national skins for any aircraft? If There is a way to filter the list of specific national aircraft without having to make copies of specific aircraft, please share here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am planning on making a multi-SF2 installations this way: SF2 (Default - For backup / reference purposes) SF2 Asia (This cover Korea War and Vietnam War, along other campaigns and aircraft that flies in Asia) SF2 Middle East (This covers campaigns and aircraft that flies in Middle East) SF2 NATO (This covers campaigns and aircraft that flies in Europe) SF2 WARSAW (This covers Russia / Soviet and other WARSAW nations) Note: In this, I aim to make Russia / Soviet and other WARSAW flyable only while disabling cockpits for NATO + Western aircraft. so I can easily go through list of aircraft for Russia and other nearby nations.) SF2 North America (This covers a huge numbers of aircraft from North America.) SF2 South America (This covers all campaigns and aircraft from South America.) I will do it slowly through the year. My first step is to install the campaigns and carefully merge them (if they cover the same places), terrains, and other mods that expands the SF2. After doing all of that, I will slowly add aircraft for each nation. As stated, before doing it, I want the opinions here. Cheers!

I appreciate your helps. I tested it with a modified IAF shortcut. Unfortunately, I still get a laggy cockpit / HUD after taking off. By the way, there is an alternative solution. Instead of running dgvoodoo2, DXWind solved the laggy cockpit / HUD problems while allowing you to run Jane's IAF on a higher resolution with a proper aspect ratio. I am able to run Jane's IAF on 1920 x 1080 while being locked in aspect ratio the way Jane's IAF was designed to run. EVERYONE, It was recently found out that dgvoodoo2 causes unstable problems with Jane's IAF. It is still being looked at. It is reported that if you press "ESC" in flight while using dgvoodoo2, it won't work. It causes you to alt+tab then back to game being frozen. It also caused problems with preference when assigning buttons. If you have button already assigned, it'll alt+tab you and ask if you want to overwrite the assigned button. After that, you need to exit the game and run IAF again. I sincerely apologize for causing any disappointment with dgvoodoo2. I am still figuring out how to solve the problems with laggy FPS when being in cockpit / HUD view (without dgvoodoo2), and at the same time, still configuring to see if dgvoodoo2 problems can be solved too. I updated the information in Jane's IAF installation instruction.

Hello everyone, I learned a lot about Jane's USAF Super Pro 9.4. However, I still am looking for more modding tools and add-on files for Jane's USAF and Super pro. I still do not understand about using Super Pro launcher, DME, and UME right now. However, I created the instructions on how to install Jane's USAF, Super Pro, and added the information from Super Pro README. Ragnarokryan, Good morning! Thank you for the reply. I, too, had the problems with Jane's IAF and I solved it by using both Tackleberry's Jane's FA-IAF-USAF patch and dgVoodoo2. When I used a fix patch only, there was a problem with Jane's IAF where it became laggy / slutter when entering a cockpit / hud mode. I fixed the problems by using dgVoodoo2. Note: With both tackleberry's patch + dgVoodoo2, I am able to use a regular IAF.exe. ------------------------------------------------------------- What I do, in order, to get Jane's IAF working on Windows 10: 1) I Installed Jane's IAF and patched it 2) Tackleberry Patch: https://www.moddb.com/games/janes-united-states-air-force/downloads/tackleberrys-patches-for-usaf-iaf-and-fa NOTE: There is a IAF patch in a folder "JITP 3) Download dgVoodoo2 I copied all files from dgVoodoo2_72\MS\x86 to IAF main folder. Then I copied dgVoodoo.config and dgVoodooCpl.exe to IAF main folder. 4) Run dgVoodooCpl.exe and I tweaked it this way (I am still learning about using dgVoodooCpl.exe): [/img] [/img] 5) Ran IAFCONFIG.EXE and make sure "Run Hardware Acceleration is selected 6) Run IAF.exe ----------------------------------------- By the way, I am able to successfully getting Jane's Fighter Anthology, Jane's IAF, Jane's USAF, and Jane's WWII Fighters running on Windows 10. I am working on Jane's Longbow 2. Since I missed out Super Pro 9.4 long time ago, I want to take an opportunity to fly Jane's USAF again with Super Pro 9.4, so I can enjoy a fully modded Jane's USAF to fullest. Not only for me, also for the community who is still modding Jane's sims to this day. It is my goal to bring Jane's USAF back alive with the community. Strike Fighters are good but in my opinion, they are too simple. No air to ground locking for long range ATG missiles, no clickable MFD in a simple way, etc. DCS World / Falcon BMS is too complicated. Jane's IAF and USAF is perfect in the balance between both worlds. At the other hand, IL-2 1946 is also perfect for me because I can disable a complex engine management and still experience realistic flying of aircraft, operate weapons, etc... Just like Jane's USAF. Just jump into any plane, take off and fly each of aircraft realistically while operating the weapons, radar, etc...

Good morning everyone! I have been looking for information on how to install Jane's USAF big mod package known as Super Pro 9.4 for Windows 10. I have successfully set up Jane's USAF and have it running on Windows 10 with Tcklbrry patch. I have been spending a long time trying to get Super Pro 9.4 working. The links for a fully upgraded Super Pro 9.4 are also unavailable. Many of the websites related to Jane's USAF and Super Pro 9.4 ar also not avaiable anymore. If any of you have the information or the knowledge on how to set up Super Pro 9.4 or have the links to the fully upgraded Super Pro 9.4, please let me know. Thank you very much! I quote the statement from author of XF-109 mod for SF2: "Had it been built, the Bell D-188A project would have been one of the most unorthodox aircraft to fly, and certainly the most unusual in the US Air Force inventory." - Veltro2k, creator of XF-109 mods for SF1 / SF2. I want to give Bell D-188 the opportunities to be flown by anyone virtually in simulation, no matter how flawed she may be. I decided to work on both Bell D-188 (XF-109 for USAF) and D-188A (XF3L for US Navy). I want to give my big thank to Veltro2K for creating XF-109 in the first place and Wrench for upgrading XF-109 mod for SF2, especially for sharing his updated files with me. I, too, want to thank Combatace community, all of you are reasons why I worked on this project. FalconC45 à Thank you so much for helping testing the mods. Instruction: 1) Extract D-188_Project and you will see 4 folders: a. Effects b. Sounds c. STOL Versions d. VSTOL Versions (Note: For F/A-109B (USMC), I highly recommend V/STOL version for taking off / landing on USMC ships. There are still STOL version, for in case, if you still prefer to go with STOL method. 2) Drop Effects and Sounds folder into main Strike Fighter 2 mod folder. 3) There are two different versions of Bell D-188 (F-109s and F/A-109s): a. STOL version – All of aircraft have all 6 jet engines operation, especially when you are in STOL mode. Because all engines from rotating engines and main fuselage engines are running at the same time, it is impossible to performance VTOL mode. b. V/STOL version – All of aircraft only have rotating engine operation. I divided the thrusts from main fuselage engines and added them to rotating engines, to make up for main fuselage engines not having any thrusts. (See “Flight model” for more information about flight model for VSTOL version) This enable you to be able to performance V/STOL and VTOL mode. However, I removed afterburner effects from main fuselage engines (except for exhaust smokes). It does not look right if you are in VTOL mode with afterburner running from fuselage. But you still can re-enable afterburner for main fuselage engines with few steps. Look at bottom of README for the instruction for re-enabling afterburner effects. 4) For your information, XF-109s / F-109s are USAF version, XF3L / F/A-109s are US Navy and US Marine Corps version. 5) Go into either STOL or VSTOL version of folders, drop Objects folder into main Strike Fighter 2 mod folder. Information: 1) XF-109 is based on D-188 project which is historically designed for US Air Force. F-109s variants aircraft are fictional “What if” if US Air Force decided to accept XF-109. 2) XF3L is based on D-188 project which is historically designed for US Navy. F/A-109s variants are fictional “What if” US Navy and US Marine Corp decided to accept XF3L. 3) Configuration/Upgrades for XF-109 / F-109s (USAF): a. XF-109 (1961) i. Prototype version ii. Under both [FusEngineLeft] and [FusEngineRight], you will see this code: //AfterburnerEmitterName=F8AfterburnerEmitter c. Remove “//” from the code, so it looks like this: AfterburnerEmitterName=F8AfterburnerEmitter d. Now you have working afterburner effects back in main fuselage engines, even when you are hovering in V/STOL version of aircraft. Texture / Skins: For now, D-188 (F-109s/F3Ls) projects do not have any additional skins for each aircraft, so if anyone have plans to create skins for D-188 projects, please let me know. Any more skins for F-109s / F3Ls are always welcomed. Flight model: I am not expert with the flight mode. If anyone can help with flight model, the helps are always welcomed for D-188 (F-109s/F3Ls) projects! I did the basic flight model tweaking, in order, to make F-109s/F3L feel more realistic when flying them in SF2, theoretically. The flight model is originally created by Veltro2K and updated by Wrench. Here are following features I tweaked in flight model: 1) Slow roll rate = With two engines being mounted on each tip of wings, it means lot of weights. And at the same time, with small wings from D-188s aircraft like F-104, in my opinion, it means slower roll rate. However, as I stated, I am not an expert with flight model and any helps with flight model overhaul is always welcomed. 2) Fixed sensitive rudder = The rudder was very sensitive so I reduced it lot, in order, for D-188s to have small movement when using rudder. 3) Engines overhaul = I have done lot of works on each engine powers for each aircraft. This is the math I used to convert lb of thrust to Netwon: Note: XXX is any given numbers. XXX lb (thrust) = XXX lb x 4.45 = XXX (thrust) Newton And keep in mind that STOL / VSTOL version of each aircraft engine have different thrusts. STOL have accuracy thrusts in newton for each six engine while VSTOL have increased thrusts for four engines. Here are example: XF-109 (STOL version) Engine #1: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #2: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #3: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #4: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #5: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #6: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) XF-109 (V/STOL version) Note: Because Engine #5 / #6 which is main fuselage engine having no thrusts, I divided them and moved to engine #1 to engine #2. Engine #5 + engine #6 = Total engine thrust divided by four, then add them to each engine. Engine #5: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #6: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Total Engine thrust: 4,800 LB (DRY) 7,200 (AB) / 4 = 1,200 LB (DRY) 1,800 (AB) Engine #1: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) + 1,200 LB (DRY) 1,800 (AB) Engine #2: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) + 1,200 LB (DRY) 1,800 (AB) Engine #3: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) + 1,200 LB (DRY) 1,800 (AB) Engine #4: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) + 1,200 LB (DRY) 1,800 (AB) Result: Note: Engine #1 to #4 is rotating engines while Engine #5 to #6 is main fuselage engines. Bell D-188 (XF-109 / XF3L) “What if” Projects for Thirdwire Strike Fighter 2 I am big fan of Bell D-188 projects and when I saw XF-109 for SF2, I got inspired to expand XF-109. I quote the statement from author of XF-109 mod for SF2: "Had it been built, the Bell D-188A project would have been one of the most unorthodox aircraft to fly, and certainly the most unusual in the US Air Force inventory." - Veltro2k, creator of XF-109 mods for SF1 / SF2. I want to give Bell D-188 the opportunities to be flown by anyone virtually in simulation, no matter how flawed she may be. I decided to work on both Bell D-188 (XF-109 for USAF) and D-188A (XF3L for US Navy). I want to give my big thank to Veltro2K for creating XF-109 in the first place and Wrench for upgrading XF-109 mod for SF2, especially for sharing his updated files with me. I, too, want to thank Combatace community, all of you are reasons why I worked on this project. FalconC45 à Thank you so much for helping testing the mods. Instruction: 1) Extract D-188_Project and you will see 4 folders: a. Effects b. Sounds c. STOL Versions d. VSTOL Versions (Note: For F/A-109B (USMC), I highly recommend V/STOL version for taking off / landing on USMC ships. There are still STOL version, for in case, if you still prefer to go with STOL method. 2) Drop Effects and Sounds folder into main Strike Fighter 2 mod folder. 3) There are two different versions of Bell D-188 (F-109s and F/A-109s): a. STOL version – All of aircraft have all 6 jet engines operation, especially when you are in STOL mode. Because all engines from rotating engines and main fuselage engines are running at the same time, it is impossible to performance VTOL mode. b. V/STOL version – All of aircraft only have rotating engine operation. I divided the thrusts from main fuselage engines and added them to rotating engines, to make up for main fuselage engines not having any thrusts. (See “Flight model” for more information about flight model for VSTOL version) This enable you to be able to performance V/STOL and VTOL mode. However, I removed afterburner effects from main fuselage engines (except for exhaust smokes). It does not look right if you are in VTOL mode with afterburner running from fuselage. But you still can re-enable afterburner for main fuselage engines with few steps. Look at bottom of README for the instruction for re-enabling afterburner effects. 4) For your information, XF-109s / F-109s are USAF version, XF3L / F/A-109s are US Navy and US Marine Corps version. 5) Go into either STOL or VSTOL version of folders, drop Objects folder into main Strike Fighter 2 mod folder. Now you have working afterburner effects back in main fuselage engines, even when you are hovering in V/STOL version of aircraft. Texture / Skins: For now, D-188 (F-109s/F3Ls) projects do not have any additional skins for each aircraft, so if anyone have plans to create skins for D-188 projects, please let me know. Any more skins for F-109s / F3Ls are always welcomed. Flight model: I am not expert with the flight mode. If anyone can help with flight model, the helps are always welcomed for D-188 (F-109s/F3Ls) projects! I did the basic flight model tweaking, in order, to make F-109s/F3L feel more realistic when flying them in SF2, theoretically. The flight model is originally created by Veltro2K and updated by Wrench. Here are following features I tweaked in flight model: 1) Slow roll rate = With two engines being mounted on each tip of wings, it means lot of weights. And at the same time, with small wings from D-188s aircraft like F-104, in my opinion, it means slower roll rate. However, as I stated, I am not an expert with flight model and any helps with flight model overhaul is always welcomed. 2) Fixed sensitive rudder = The rudder was very sensitive so I reduced it lot, in order, for D-188s to have small movement when using rudder. 3) Engines overhaul = I have done lot of works on each engine powers for each aircraft. This is the math I used to convert lb of thrust to Netwon: Note: XXX is any given numbers. XXX lb (thrust) = XXX lb x 4.45 = XXX (thrust) Newton And keep in mind that STOL / VSTOL version of each aircraft engine have different thrusts. STOL have accuracy thrusts in newton for each six engine while VSTOL have increased thrusts for four engines. Here are example: XF-109 (STOL version) Engine #1: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #2: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #3: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #4: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #5: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) Engine #6: 2,400 LB (DRY) 3,600 LB (AB) XF-109 (V/STOL version) Note: Because Engine #5 / #6 which is main fuselage engine having no thrusts, I divided them and moved to engine #1 to engine #2. Hello everyone! I am back after have been gone for over a year after having gotten my new gaming laptop and new job in Tokyo, Japan! It have been my lifetime dream to work and live here in Japan. I finally managed to get my first job here and it have been keeping me very busy! However, it is great to be back and I managed to finish what I was working on D-188 project. I am unable to expand it as way I would wanted for it, so if anyone can expand it further, that would be great! I am posting the updated information here. I am happy you bought this up. I thought about this last night after discussing with my friend FalconCAF. I realized that F/A-18 is multi-role and since F/A-109 is multi-role too, so I thought that, by alternative history, F/A get introduced earlier from XF3L program before F/A-18 was born. But I would like more feedback on this idea. This is why I want to keep brainstorming and see more perspective about aircraft naming. I like either F-109 series or F/A-109 series for USN and USMC. And to answer your question, F-109 goes into USAF service first before USN and USMC. Good suggestions and may I ask you about XF3L: 1) Why is XF3L not used after 1962 for further testing for aircraft carrier operation? Makes sense and that is good point. I will update the year service for USN and USMC being lot shorter than USAF version. Thank you for bring this up, I learn new things from here. No need to apologize and I especially appreciate critical feedback. As I stated in my first post that I intend to keep all aspect of 'what if" aircraft realistic as possible. For example, F/A as name of aircraft for USN could possibly come earlier before F/A-18 due to the nature of F/A-109 being multi-role, like F/A-18 was. (Correct me if I am wrong about F/A-18 being multi-role) but again, I am waiting for feedback on that. However, at the same time, as you stated about the pressures and other factors that causes USN and USMC version of D-188 projects to have shorter lifespan than USAF makes completely sense. And that is something I plan to do with D-188 projects. I intend to keep project evolving into better project, so any kind of feedback, especially critical feedback are always appreciated. I was thinking of something similar to this. And I want to add another factors, the performance of F-109s is inferior to F-15, F-16, F/A-18 and other aircraft from late 1970s to ahead of that time, except for Harrier (theoretically ???). Even though F-109 would be nightmare to maintain, she is supersonic that goes faster than harrier, but again, as you stated, harrier are easier to maintain. So i want more feedback on USMC possibly having extended service for F-109s along with harrier with their V/STOL capabilities. There could be far fewer F-109s (being very rare in the service after 1980s) than harriers in the service for specific purposes? And about NATO, I would like to start working on NATO version after USAF, USN, and USMC version is completed and released as beta. And when that happens in near future, I will need more information and feedback for NATO version.

I was testing F3L-2 (1972) today with Vietnam map from Vietnam war mod. And I was starting recon mission in F3L-2 hoping I would get to take off from aircraft carrier. After loading up the missions, to my surprise, I was on small ship deck that is meant to be used for helicopter. I decided to have fun with it so why not try taking off from small ship? It was tricky but at the same time, F3L-2 is somehow forgiving to take off vertically and then fly straight with rotating engines. I was being locked by SAMs while being jumped by MiG-21s, that's when I dove toward ground and turned hard to the left to break from missiles. While MiG-21s were diving toward me at nearly mach one, I slammed on air brake and pulled hard to force MiG-21s to overshoot. That was when I turned toward MiG-21s and fired Sidewinders. I got forced into dogfight with next MiG-21s. Knowing that F3L-2s is not good at close range dogfighting but the MiG-21 was front of me. It was very deadly gambits because if MiG-21 were wise pilot, pilot would have taken advantage of their agile to out turn my F3L-2s. Fortunately I managed to shoot down MiG-21 right before pilot would had the chance to change the situations in dogfight. That is an excellent ideas! I haven't thought of that and I will rename EF-109s into F-109Gs. And about US Navy aircraft name, that makes sense. I will rename F3L-1 to F/A-109A for USN and F/A-109B for USMC. Since they are multi-role, it makes sense to use F/A-109 and we will be able to tell which F-109s are for USAF, USN, and USMC. What do you think about the new names for F3Ls to F/A-109s? However, about the service years ending in 1990s, I agree with you due to several reasons: 1) As you stated, aircraft structure start to wear down from 1970s. 2) F-109s and F/A-109s become completely obsolete during 1990s. 3) There are alternative aircraft that can do better job than F-109s / F/A-109s, especially with JSF programs during 21th century. What do everyone think about this?

Hello everyone, I announcing the project I have been working on with the help from the combatace community (Thank you Wrench and Blackbird for working with me on this projects! ). It have been many years since I have done any modding. The project is called D-188 Projects, which is an expansion of Veltro2k XF-109 mod. It is my goal to give D-188 projects having opportunities to be alive in SF2 for everyone to fly 'what if' aircraft. The projects is still work in progress and I would like for feedback from community about the projects I am working on. The reason why I am working on this project is because of my love for 'what if' aircraft. And at the same time, I intend to keep all 'what if' aspect of D-188 realistic as possible. If anyone can help with flight model, the helps are always welcomed for D-188 (F-109s/F3Ls) projects! I did the basic flight model tweaking, in order, to make F-109s/F3L feel more realistic when flying them in SF2, theoretically. The flight model is originally created by Veltro2K and updated by Wrench. Here are following features I tweaked in flight model: 1) Slow roll rate = With two engines being mounted on each tip of wings, it means lot of weights. And at the same time, with small wings from D-188s aircraft like F-104, in my opinion, it means slower roll rate. However, as I stated, I am not an expert with flight model and any helps with flight model overhaul is always welcomed. 2) Fixed sensitive rudder = The rudder was very sensitive so I reduced it lot, in order, for D-188s to have small movement when using rudder. 3) There are two different versions of Bell D-188 (F-109s and F3Ls): a. STOL version – All of aircraft have all 6 jet engines operation, especially when you are in STOL mode. Because all engines from rotating engines and main fuselage engines are running at the same time, it is impossible to performance VTOL mode. b. V/STOL version – All of aircraft only have rotating engine operation. I divided the thrusts from main fuselage engines and added them to rotating engines, to make up for main fuselage engines not having any thrusts. (See “Flight model” for more information about flight model for VSTOL version) This enable you to be able to performance V/STOL and VTOL mode. However, I removed afterburner effects from main fuselage engines (except for exhaust smokes). It does not look right if you are in VTOL mode with afterburner running from fuselage. But you still can re-enable afterburner for main fuselage engines with few steps (It is included in README.) 4) Engines overhaul = I have done lot of works on each engine powers for each aircraft. This is the math I used to convert lb of thrust to Netwon: Note: XXX is any given numbers. XXX lb (thrust) = XXX lb x 4.45 = XXX (thrust) Newton And keep in mind that STOL / VSTOL version of each aircraft engine have different thrusts.
