new graphic card and EAW will not work anymore
Pobs replied to Gepard's topic in EAW - General Discussions
Hi Gep, OK we are getting somewhere at least :) at what stage in the flight selection process do you get the ctd ? one common problem is 'impossible' saved missions using impossible combinations of targets, planes and homebases from one scenario to another, this will screw up the start of the mission, try going into the savegame folder and delete any missions to let it use the defaults, that may help. cheers, Pobs -
Hi, in-case any of you guys want to join us we are flying at Gameranger pretty regularly ( several nights a week, GMT) I always put up a game when I am in, so just look out for an EAW game and come and join us, all welcome.. cheers, Pobs

Gepard, Try playing iwth the Anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering values, EAW does not control these so if they are set to 'software controlled' in your setup they arent being used. I know that changing these from 8xS and 8x repsectively on my Geforce card causes all sorts of weird stuff graphically ingame. You might try asking over at simHQ we have people playing with most types of cards now... cheers, Pobs -
Hi Sopmod, fix the maps and screens using the d3dwindower program , freeware from brothersoft : http://www.brothersoft.com/d3dwindower-238977.html configuring it is pretty simple but not helped by some of the text being in japanese... but if you read here : http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/3085475 it should cover it.. cheers, Pobs

It does sound like a video driver problem, try that windower program, it works pretty well with these type of problems. cheers, Pobs -

Hi Gepard, which version of EAW are you flying mate ?.... generally the latest 1.28E exe works quite well with most cards but we also use brothersoft's 'd3dwindower' program to fly with cards that give problems, it is a great little program that lets you fly in a windowed mode that seems to resolve a lot of graphics card issues. Get it here : http://www.brothersoft.com/d3dwindower-238977.html if you choose that route check out SimHQ and search for 'd3dwindower' for setting it up. cheers, Pobs -
Hi Zagnut, sorry you are a bit out of my knowledge zone with this one since I don't use two controllers myself. Can you not set the rudders to your Z axis/pedals in the Logitech software ?.. if you want to use the software I think you need to edit the ini entry for 'windowsjoystick' to get the programme to release control of the stick to its own software, but I may be wrong on that one... still, might be worth a try, its easy enough to put the entry back if it doesn't work. cheers, Pobs

Hi Zagnut, if the throttle and pedals are seperate you will need to set up your eaw.ini file to 'see them' the section that needs altering for your setup is the 'control' section. Mr Jelly has seperate pedals and stick setup working and has shown his setup here : http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/3090331/Searchpage/1/Main/317820/Words/dual+controllers/Search/true/Re_Rudder_and_128e.html#Post3090331 hope that helps :) cheers, Pobs

If I am understanding the original post, the comment is how little activity there is in this section... probably because the knowledge database for EAW is held in the eaw wiki page here : http://eaw.wikispaces.com/ EDIT: (If you want some old info about EAW, you can download the archived EAW WIKI Zip file. (provided in 2015 by the webmaster, RAF_Dumoulin.) Its about a 75MB file, located at this EAWHS mediafire address: http://www.mediafire.com/file/uon19y4459tb065/eaw_wiki_20150629-HTML.7z/file and most current discussion is occurring at SimHQ. cheers, Pobs

Hi Hotrod, well the good news is ... EAW will run fine on your setup as far as I can see. You can either install from the disk or just copy all the files over to a folder directly, EAW doesnt need to be installed to the registry to work, so the general order would be to install/copy your base cd, then add the 1.2 upgrade (on the disk) to get the baseline official eaw install, then make a copy of this folder and keep the original 'clean' in case of mess-ups. Base 1.2 EAW will not recognise two controllers so you would need to make your stick the first controller on your windows controller list and use just that for base 1.2 I am afraid If you want to fly the recent 1.28 series of updated exe's which will support multiple controllers along with a host of new features, then you need to go to Sandbaggers site to get the auto-installers for 1.28c and 1.28d and 'soon to arrive' 1.28e. The easiest way to find what you want is to go to the sandbagger link over at the simHQ EAW page. Simply drop the self installer exe into your eaw folder and run it to upgrade. Just to clarify the 1.28c/d issue was to do with screen sizes, the 1.28c exe uses 640x480 screens as in the original, but some card/driver combo's wont support that resolution so we have upgraded all the screens in the 1.28d package to 1032x768 to help. If you have problems after installing with your card/drivers giving scrambled screens or maps then you can try using the d3dwindower program which solves those problems for me with a Geforce 7600 card. The windower program is available here : http://www.brothersoft.com/d3dwindower-238977.html dont worry if your antivirus doesnt like it it is clean but some of its actions upset antivirus software, like diverting output from programs into a window environment (Mr Jelly has had it checked out by the AV people themselves and they have cleared it). If you have any problems just shout and we can work them out for you either here or at simHQ cheers, Pobs

EAW the early years :)... cheers, Pobs

Hi DQ, there are no real issues with XP and EAW other than the problems created by some card drivers but they are completely overcome with the d3dwindower program, which is a super little utility that lets you run the game in a window which seems to have pretty well sorted the 7217 and the garbled screen issues the game had with some drivers. Don't forget if you are an online player come over to Gameranger and look out for us playing most days there. Just host a game and wait for a while and you will soon build up a friends list of eaw players. The online game has come on a long way since the original 1.2 version and is a great game even with its somewhat dated graphics. there are usually several eaw disks for sale on ebay most days... a quick check today gives this : http://computers.shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=p3910.m570.l1313&_nkw=european+air+war&_sacat=58058 cheers, Pobs
