SF2 not well optimized for newer systems?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everyone, i've been playing SF2 for years now on my GTX 1050Ti 16 GB RAM i7 8750H Win 10 gaming laptop at medium graphical settings, getting always very high framerate with basically no drops whatsoever. Now i've moved to a new high-end laptop with GTX 4060 32 GB RAM i7 13650HX Win 11 and i've finally set my graphical settings to unlimited. I get fps locked at 60 most of the times (it's locked at 60 by default, and i don't know why and how to change it, even if that's not a problem) (i remember it used to be unlocked on my previous laptop and i ranged from 50/60 up to 130 with medium settings), but sometimes it drops for an instant (it's shown in "lowest fps" when i turn on parameters) and some other times (like with smoke or very dense models like carriers and terrains like "Italy" or when i move quickly my sight) it drops and stays there until i look away and not too fast. I tried at high settings and the difference is i gain 5/6 fps more when a drop happens. This problem, even if not game breaking, it may sometimes be annoying and disturbing. I'm actually surprised this happens, since i tried MSFS 2020 and i get 50+ fps at ultra, 80+ fps at high and 120+ fps at medium. I finally tried to set my SF2 settings to low, and the lowest fps it goes is 50. Is it because my laptop is not powerful enough (sounds very unlikely to me but i may be wrong) to run SF2 at unlimited and high settings? Or is that SF2 shows its age with newer systems with high-end specs so that's why it tends to lag more than more modern and demanding games? Thanks for the help and suggestions- 12 replies

Howdy Gents, Hope you are all doing well. I am finally getting a chance to sink my teeth into OTT and I'm enjoying immensely. As noted by Pol and Winder, the system requirements are quite a bit higher than before. I'm wondering what your target FPS is these days. I have a beefy gaming rig (specs below) and I'm finding that with the scenery and terrain detail dialed in at 3 and the visibility set to 100km, I'm consistently in the mid to low 30s. Traditionally with a new game, I set most of the settings on max (the joys of getting a new gaming rig when I turned 40 lol). After reading over the release notes for OTT, I realized that perhaps my fps philosophy has been incorrect - I keep aiming for a high FPS and with an older engine like CFS3 combined with the wizardry of OBD, I'm not sure I'm viewing these games settings with the right mindset. With all that rambling out of the way, I wanted to ask: What is a good average fps for your adventures in WOFF these days? Do you aim for a high fps or do you look for a smooth fps even if its lower. I'm really curious to hear about your experiences. I'd be delighted to hear from Pol or Winder as well - what targets do you aim for when you are doing your final tests before a release? Rick, I know that you are not only playing WOFF, but you're also recording - which is an insane load on a system! What fps do you look for? Thanks in advance for sharing them and any tweaks and settings that you've had some luck with. Cheers! KEY SETTINGS UNASSIGNED AND STUCK
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
After a crash, my Strike Fighters 2 Europe keys appear all set as unassigned. There's no way i can set 'em. Even if i bind them, they still be unassigned. I EVEN TRIED REINSTALLING THE GAME, and they are STILL all unassigned... I seriously have no idea of what to do, since this happened only in Europe and not in vanilla game or North Atlantic. There's also another problem: keys look "bugged" in SF2 NA, since i binded all of them, but some still don't work. As these won't be enough, they're bugged also because if i set a key for a specified control, and then i try to unassign it re-pressing the same key on another command, instead of unassigning the first command, it glitches and i can set two or more commands with the same key... this clearly bugged out Could you please help and tell me what can i do to "unbug" all of this mess? Thank you a lot guys, i appreciate your help so much- 11 replies

RADIO CHATTER MAKES GAME FREEZE AND STUTTER
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everybody, I have a very big issue in Strike Fighters 2, which i also had on Strike Fighters Project 1 before: whenever a radio communication is given (wingman, HQ, etc...) the game FREEZES for a couple of seconds. I tried EVERY SINGLE THING (lowering graphical settings, selecting my dedicated graphical card as default...) Nothing changed. I discovered that the problem is related to the audio communications files, since i tried deleting all radio chatter files from SFP1 game directory, and the issue is gone, no more stutters or freezes. The only thing is that i can only play the game without any form of radio communications, just ambience, weapons and plane sounds... that's kinda bad SO, I finally found out the problem is related to these files, i tried changing the audio channels into the in-game settings, switching from 16 to 8, to 24 and 32... I don't need to tell you that NOTHING HAPPENED. In conclusion, what can i do? I'm desperate since i can't find anything similar on the internet, and no one seems to have my same problem, so i can't find any solution. I thought that it was related just to the old SFP1, since it could maybe have some optimization problem on newer machines... but the exact same happened as soon as i played SF2 for the first time. I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP, and i thank you A LOT for helping me out, cause i really really have no idea of what to do to play it with radio chatter without being LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE Thank you all again -
MOUSE CONTROL?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask you if there is any way to fly the plane with mouse as yoke (just like War Thunder) in SF2 or SFP1 I know it's way better to fly it with a joystick, and that it's perfectly playable with arrow keys, but that's something i just wanted to know about. Let me know if there is any way to set this as yoke command. Thank you very much -
SERIOUS PROBLEM ABOUT PERFORMANCES REQUIRES HELP ASAP PLS
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi guys, i have a very big issue regarding one of my favourite games of all time: Strike Fighters: Project 1. I play this beautiful old game on my PC and i run it pretty well at lowest settings and 1920x1080p (i had ALSO to change "default graphic card option" to my high-performances NVIDIA graphic card, due to the fact that the game heavily lags if i run it with the default graphic card option, even if it's all set on lowest settings). After i figured out this little issue, the game runs pretty smoothly and at an high framerate so, what's the problem? The problem is that whenever i hit or shoot down a plane or i look at an explosion, the game freezes for a couple of seconds... So i don't know what to do and why this happens… Is that because Strike Fighters: Project 1 is too old for a modern medium-high end PC? (I used to play it also on my previous low end Windows XP PC, and i never had any kind of problem) Should i play the game at lower resolutions even if all settings are already at lowest? Why had i to choose my high-performances NVIDIA graphic card to play the game without lag even if it's an old and well optimized game? Please help me, i know SF:P1 is a very old game and i should go for SF2, but the first one is one of my favourite games of all time and THIS PROBLEM MAKES THE GAME UNPLAYABLE!!! THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH, cause this is a HUGE PROBLEM, i really have no idea of what to do and i'm very confused about what's happening...- 16 replies
