Lowest System Specs

Recommended Posts

I would like to get a comparison of rather LOW END systems

- PLEASE, no boasting with high end rigs here.

- Please list the specs in the same order

It's just about finding out, how much of the overall performance (Scenery slider maxed out etc.)

you can get with lower system specs. I will start with my own rig here.

CPU: Intel Core Duo E8300 @2.83 GHz (not overclocked)

Mem: 4,00 GB

GPU: ATI HD4870 (1 GB)

Monitor: 1680 x 1050

Windows Vista 32 Bit

OFF is running with:

- Sliders on 5, 3, 2, 5, 5

- Workshop's Ground Object Densitiy: medium

- 30 plus frames

CPU: Intel Core Duo E6750 @2.66 GHz (not overclocked)

MoBo: ABIT IP35P

Mem: 2 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GT430 (1 GB)

Monitor: LG W22 @1920 x 1080 32 bit

OS: Windows XP SP3

Basic OFF BHaH 1.32f is running with:

- Sliders on 4, 2, 2, 4, 1

- Workshop's Ground Object Densitiy: medium

- Workshop's AC Skins: Normal Res

- Workshop FOV 23x16 (default)

Result

- between 15 and 45 frames/sec

Before my GTX8800 GPU blew up in November, I was getting 30-60 frames/sec with higher slider numbers, but there's no sense putting a high end (i.e., expensive) video card in a 3+ year old computer that's in the chute for replacement soon.

Side note - does anyone know how to level out the frame rate fluctuations?

Thanks, Jarhead. I don't know how to "level" the fraps, but two notes:

- your monitor is a 16 : 9, so you should make sure your "Workshops" setting at the left is on 16:10 (not 4:3);

- your field of view might look more realistic with either 27:15; or with 28:16 (according to your widescreen monitor)

(If you change the values, make sure you click on "Set FOV" after that, so the new values will get saved.)

.

Here's my set-up:

CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz Wolfdale 6mb 1333fsb 45nm, (OC'd to 3.8), with Arctic Cooler

Memory: 8gb DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz, (OC'd to 840)

Mobo: ASUS P5QL Pro

Hard Drive: two Western Digital 640 GB Caviar Black SATA

Opti Drive: LG 22X DVD+/RW Dual Layer SATA Rewrite

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512mb

PS: Diablotek RPM 900w ATX

Tower: large Cooler Master, with two additional 130mm case fans, (total of four)

Windows XP Pro 64-bit OS

LG W22 1920 x 1080 monitor, (same model as Jarhead's)

TrackIR 4 with IR5 software

Sliders currently set at 5-3-3-5-5; ground density at medium. I get 60fps during normal flight with my wingmates, and 30-40fps in a major furball over the Alsace front with lots of AA and ground fire going on. Also, the only thing I have on my C drive is the OS, OFF, and TrackIR; everything else in on my D drive.

There I have one question: would the performance benefit from OS and simulation being on different hard drives?

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 @ 3.45ghz oc clock

Mobo: Evga 680i-SLI FSB 1066 stock

Mem: G Skill PC-6400: 8gb locked w/timings @ 4-3-4-9-2T

GPU: Evga 8800 GTX stock clock

Mon: Sony GDM-FW900 1920 x 1200 32bit

OS: W7_64 RTM 7600 Build 16385 w/release license (it has some features not incorporated in W7_64 Ultimate Retail)

Same workshop features as NS13Jarhead but w/o FOV setting

For the heck of it I tried and was successful running w/7x multiplier = 1.86ghz

Sliders were 2-2-2-2-1

Fluid except over airfields. Noticeable slowing but no stuttering.

Not concerned with fps when used as primary performance indicator.

A whole lot of tweaking just to satisfy my own curiosity; ain't doing it again.

With your system - why don't you run all sliders on 5 (maybe except "Scenery detail", which might be on 4 or 3) ???

I run all sliders @ 5 except for "Terrain Detail" which I have at 3.

You asked about "low end" systems. I was once curious to see just how "slow and low" I could run. My cpu is unlocked and I can go down as low as 6x, but wasn't able to run OFF satisfactorily @ 6x. I did this about 1-1/2 years ago.

Compared to what many are currently running or building, I do consider my specs to be "lower" end.

Ah, now I think I understand.

You can have "Terrain detail" higher - "Scenery Detail" eats most performance.

I would assume your specs being medium range, compared to all OFF users.

Nice to see you, tranquillo!

But hey - how many sliders does your OFF have???? I want my money back!

Are you sure the clouds worsen it? I rather made the experience, that I can run "Clouds" on 5.

"Scenery Detail" seems to "eat most.

Yes, I've been away for a bit.

I've got loads of sliders and I've only mentioned some of them:boast:. No, really Olham do not start complaining to OBD I just have a stutter in my left index finger.

Sliders: 53355

Yep, clouds worsen it but only knocking the Terrain slider down a notch fixes it. I'm hoping to upgrade to ATI 5870 - that should cure it.

Wow I hate to think of my system as low end but here it is.

cpu Intel core 2 duo e8400 Wolfsdale 3.0 ghz Lga 775 not overclocked

Memory was recently upgrade to 8 gigs corsair pc8500

gpu Sapphire ati radeon hd 4850 512mb

monitor Asus mk241h 24" resolution is 1920 x 1200

Windows 7 64bit

Sliders are 5 4 4 5 5

FOV Default

medium object density

Frames measured by fraps are between 40-60

I can run at all sliders at 5 but I get hesitation and white geometric patterns. I have purchased a new Sapphire ati radeon 5850 with 2 gigs of memory which I am hoping will cure these problems. I do have one interesting issue and that is before each game I have to go into workshop and make sure the slider settings are 54455 because they seem to reset themselves at 3 3 3 3 3. I am careful to set them and than exit using the file and exit commands rather than the X to exit.

Hope this helps

Oh, bugger ,.

Having just recently upgraded my 'pooter I don't get to participate in this topic.

Built a mid to highish spec beast so I won't have to upgrade for a few years.

Carry on without me Chaps

Cheers,

My budget build from a year ago

CPU: AMD X2 550 Dual Core @ 3.6ghz oc with 9700 Zalman cooler

Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO

Mem: G Skill Ripjaws DDR-1600 4gb oc w/timings @ 9-9-9-24-2T

GPU: ATI 5770 stock w/Catalyst 10.12 drivers

HD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 32MB cache (decent but nothing special)

Controllers: TrackIR 4, CH Flightstick, Rudder Pedals, & Throttle Quadrant

Mon: LS W236 24" widescreen

OS: W7 64 Home Edition

Same workshop features as NS13Jarhead & almccoyjr but w/FOV at 30:18

Run sliders at 53355 with some slowing but no stutters with consistent FPS 40-60. Can run at 55555 but experience more slowdowns & occasional stutter when loading textures

ATI tweaks mostly a waste of time. New 10.12 drivers allow supersample AA, which dramatically improves overall appearance, no jaggies at all.

Oh yeah! I also have that card in mind!

I recently upgraded to a 5870 with 1 gig memory. It made no difference at all for FS2004. (Upgraded from 5770)

Currently I do not have FSX or CFS3 installed as I gave up trying to get them running on my PC, to what I want.(Fussy bugger I am)

It seems clock speed is the limiter. The newer cards are mainly for very high resolutions from what can see. I think I wasted my Christmas present there.

I will be watching the new intel chips soon coming out with a over clocking utility from intel. These may make a real difference. So far I have not tried over clocking as I have enough problems getting my hardware to last long enough as it is.

Well, from all I read, the CPU can easily be overclocked without wearing it off faster.

The intelligent bit seems to be the right overclocking, incl. regaining the correct frequency for the memory.

If INTEL bring out something to make that whole tuning easier, that would be great.

The frequency they should have would be found on the box, or a little label on the sticks.

The frequency they REALLY run with after overclocking the CPU, is shown in BIOS.

I tried in my case all multiplicators to get to the 1066 MHz they should run with, but I failed.

On the wrong frequency, they didn't really work well - so I went back to CPU default freq.

I will get me a faster CPU, and then try it again.

The best if you want to fiddle on that stuff, is to know someone who knows what he does.
