  2. Albatros D.V (early) Skin for Jasta 10

For this Albatros I have made a new Mauve-Green camo. JFM wrote to me, that the darker tone
on the B+W photos was most likely the green; so I used Fokker's dark green here.
Then I made a slightly lighter Mauve after the tone used in the Lozenge patterns.
Wether it is historically correct or not - I liked what I had got.

I used it on an early Albatros D.V - that is the originally delivered version with the headrest.
This was later mostly removed by the Jastas for better vision, and finally given up by Albatros.
But I wanted to fly one of these with an own skin, and here it is for all to use now.

Jasta 10 was one of the four Jasta of "Richthofen's flying Circus" (Jasta 4, Jasta 6, Jasta 10
and Jasta 11) - they were always in the thick of it. When they had the D.V they were in northern
Flanders. So, if you want a lot of action, this skin could be the right one to use. Enjoy!

Many thanks to the OBD Skinners, who created the immense output of over 3.400 skins for OFF.
I work from their original works and would have been lost without that.

  7. Ltn Josef Raesch Fokker DVIIF

Lieutenant Josef Raesch (born 4 June 1897, date of death unknown) flew with Jasta 43.
He was credited with seven aerial victories, two of which were over other aces, Guy Wareing and Ernest Charles Hoy.

On 26th July 1918, he was forced to abandon his burning DVII and parachuted to safety

2 months later, he was given a Pfaltz DXII but was unhappy with the new fighter..and he wrote: "I am very unhappy with the Pfaltz. It does not climb well, is clumsy in turns, and will not keep up with the formation"

  12. Nieuport 17 "Mathilde

the original Nieuport 17 skin was made by Rabu. it's the Escadrille 65 stock skin.

the heart was borrowed from OBD skin for Werner Voss (D.III), which I believe was done by Paarma. I had to distort it quite a bit to get the face to fit over it.

the face was rendered free hand on a piece of paper and then scanned.

I made up a new bogus serial number to replace the original.

finally, I picked the name "Mathilde" because it's based on an old Germanic name that means "mighty in battle", or some such thing.

  14. Albatros D.Va 'Man of Letters'

the original Albatros D.Va skin was created by Paarma.

I thought it would be cool to have an Albatros covered in letters. although I had tried using text overlays I didn't like the way it looked.

last year I hand-stamped a white coat with black letters as part of a Halloween costume-- and it occurred to me that I could photograph this coat for more satisfying results. the hand-stamped inconsistencies feel more 'believable' on the curving surfaces of the Albatros.

  16. Celia V: N24 of William A. Wellman, Esc 87

1917 Nieuport 24 "Celia V", belonging to Corporal William "Wild Bill" Wellman, American volunteer flying with Escadrille 87.

Wellman went to France and joined the Norton-Harjes Ambulance Corps, later transferring to the French Foreign Legion, and then on to the French Air Service. After training on Bleriots and Nieuports he went into the Lafayette Flying Corps, assigned to Esc 87. Once he was assigned a mission to drop pamphlets on the Germans. While performing aerobatics over German lines his motor quit, but he managed to crash land and flipped upside down. He couldn't get loose and was rescued by French troops. Wellman was nicknamed "Wild Bill" by the French for his one-man dawn patrols over enemy lines where he would bomb and strafe the Germans. He had two confirmed kills and was eventually shot down by AA fire. In the crash he broke his back in two places, his control stick went into the roof of his mouth and he ended up with a permanent limp and a silver plate in his head. When Wellman was discharged as a sergeant from the French forces in March, 1918 he left with the Croix de Guerre with two Palms, the Medaille Militaire and the citations, A L'Ordre de L'Armee and Le Pilote Americain, Marshall de Logis. After the war Wellman went on to become one of Hollywood's leading directors. The initial success of his career was launched with the 1927 WWI aerial saga "Wings", the first film ever to win the Acadamy Award for Best Picture, (information courtesy of www.worldwar1.com).

I wish to thank Polovski, Winder, OvS, and rabu for their outstanding skins and graphics that provide the starting point for these paint schemes.

  17. Nieuport Variations

Some Nieuport11 skins I made while fooling with Paintshop , don't flame me they're not meant to be historically accurate , and they can certainly be improved so maybe they'll inspire somebody to give skinning a go.

  23. Albatros D III OAW - MFJ 1

All my recent Albatros skins were made as an addition to the numerous and great OFF creations.
They are based on and use parts of the skins made by James 'OvS' Romano and Paarma.

While the OFF skinners have decided to present more weathered skins, like after weeks of service
in the field; I wanted to also have some skins of brand new delivered and freshly painted aircraft.
    Hope you like them.

To get them into OFF, you unzip the file to:
