Viggen Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Thought you all might appreciate a look at the Iraqi MiG-25RB that's on temporary display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. I've wanted to see this Foxbat in person for years, and yesterday I finally had my chance. It's still missing its wings and stabilizers but despite that, it's a sight to behold. A ridiculous machine. The pictures aren't anything special, coming from my iPhone and the lighting in the museum isn't the best. This is my third trip to the museum since September, 2024 so I have plenty more pictures if there's interest. 6
+Flanker562 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago My Dad showed me a model of one, and knew about Bolenko, but it's an impressive plane I'll give it that.
+GKABS Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Absolutely, this is one of the Iraqi MiG-25RBs, specifically number 25105, that was discovered buried in the sand back in 2003. 5
+Crusader Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The probably widely-known photos of the dug-up MiG-25 are of the 25107 https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/138759/american-forces-unearth-hidden-aircraft-in-iraq/ 1
+GKABS Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Yes your correct also i think this one was another one the 105 The aircraft on exhibit, a MiG-25RB, was found in 2003 by American forces buried in the sand near Al Taqaddum Airbase 250km west of Baghdad during the opening months of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The MiG-25 was buried to prevent its destruction on the ground by coalition aircraft. The aircraft was recovered incomplete--the wings could not be located and the vertical stabilizers were removed for transport. The aircraft arrived at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in 2006. I might be wrong. 1
