tank03 Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 (I'm using WOV) I'd like to create a mission that would have me strafing parked aircraft sitting by/on the runway but I'm not having success. I'm using "Le Missioneur" mission editor from Check6 and each time I set the altitude and speed at zero for the enemy MIG's, they don't show up, or they blow up at start up (I'm not sure which, I just know it's never there when I go look for it). I'm certain that I'm doing something wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? Quote
arf16 Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 You need to find the parked aircraft pack in the download section. It is essentially a group of static aircraft models used as ground objects. Hope this helps. Quote
strongmc Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Any way to add static aircraft and have them not show up in single mission selectable aircraft? Quote
arf16 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Any static aircraft you have should not show up in the selectable aircraft as it is a ground object. Quote
tank03 Posted January 17, 2007 Author Posted January 17, 2007 The downloadable static a/c are a start. However, I'm looking to use MIG's as targets, not just dress up the friendly airbase. I guess the question should be; Does anyone know how to make an aircraft into a ground target? I imagine some INI editing can accomplish that, but I have no idea where to start Quote
Southernap Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I have not done the static target thing either and think it is a shame that TK missed out placing them as targets of the runways. However, I would take the wild guess that if you wanted to create MiG's and Yak's as targets then take the same data that gives you the static blue forces and create some static red forces. Play around with how those are placed in the single mission generator and or the terrian itself and see what would happen. Quote

Hi folks, the kind of thing you're looking for can be done using modified stock or add-on aircraft. See my previous posts on the whole 'statics' topic. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...&highlight= http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...&highlight= Existing posted add-on static a/c can be found here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2949 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2933 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2931 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2930 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2929 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2928 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2926 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2913 Note: these probably won't work for strafing missions as I removed most of the data that defines collisions so I'll need to do a strafable Mig. As for a strafing mission, I'll knock something up with a Mig-17 in WOV and post it to the Missions section at Combatace, including info on how to create a static Mig from one of the stock ones. Give me a day or so but shouldn't be too much trouble. Cheers, regards, P.T (PNT/comrpnt) :-) Quote
Sokol Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 basically you need to convert a flyable a/c to a non-fly-able: removing fuel, surfaces etc., i am sure someone can give a short introduction. i have got one problem: some static models tend to look in a direction they choose, not you. anyway: results look like this: salute sokol Quote
PNT Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Hi folks, BTW Sokol, very nice screenshots of statics. Can the correctly-oriented ones also be destroyed? I fixed the heading bug in many of the statics I've played with but usually at the cost of the Min/MaxExtents attributes, which renders the statics invincible. I'd be interested in seeing the _data.ini you have on that one. Anyway, as promised I've uploaded a strafing mission to combatace (should be approved shortly) -- see the Missions sub-category -- and instructions on how to create stock Mig-17F and Mig-21F statics that can be destroyed on a strafing run. Here's a shot of some of the target areas and trouble arriving from the South in pairs. The mission is based out of Hue and targeted at Dong Hoi for a dawn raid. Waypoints for the entire mission are defined and also a suitable target on the airfield. You have a F4-E, a wingman and some MK82s. Kind regards, P.T. (comrpnt) Quote
SandyC Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 If you buy YAP, you get a heap of static aircraft. I have a great looking airbase in Vietnam with a PanAm Boeing 707, C-130s, F-105s and F-4s on the apron. At night they have lights on, etc. They have just added MiGs. These make great targets. Quote
eightlein Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Tank, as you can see the Intruders and Skyhawks made a right mess of the airfield at Kep. Quote
Sokol Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi, i do not know (yet) whether "my" statics can be destroyed, i'll try next wekend :-). some of them (mig-21mf) have the correct orientation, some not (mig-21 pf and mig-17). could not find out why ?! Sokol Quote
tank03 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 I've been shooting them up with the strafing mission posted by PNT/compnt (thanks a bunch for that) ; having a blast (yes, pun intended) I'm going to also check out the YAP missions. I haven't yet tried making my own static a/c's, but I plan to give it a try soon. Quote

Sokol Hi folks, I've updated my Dong Hoi mission uploads at CombatAce by further enhancing Raid(2) and adding another one (Raid(3)) which features a pair of scrambling Mig-17s as you approach the airfield. Both Raid(2) and Raid(3) also now feature A2A-refueling on your homeward journey. See here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=3911 Sokol, the difference in orientation on your Mig-21s might be the difference between having Min/MaxExtents defined in your _static_data.ini and removing them. In the past I found that this parameter gave the static a different AI behaviour. To test this, turn debugging mode on and F6 to an external view. Look at the AI_action attribute. For some of my statics the difference in value of this attribute ties up with the orientation bug. Some aircraft have it and some don't, even if their _static_data.ini files contain only the same attributes. See here for more info: http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3876 Tank03, you're very welcome. Have a go at Raid(3). You'll need to watch your back and those of your buddies, they're not great at responding to threats on their six! (They do complete their mission though -- if the Mig doesn't get them first). Regards, Paul T. (comrpnt) :-) Quote
grumpapotamus Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Hello, I have been trying to convert the static aircraft into groundobjects, like trucks and buildings. I am having some trouble, and need an aircraftdestroyed.lod file. Also if there is some info on groundobject ini editting, it would be appreciated. I like a bit of eye candy in all the missions! tank03 Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 that's it - i'm getting YAP now. been sitting on the fence for a while. that just pushed me over! YAP could charge 10 times what they do for their missions and it would be worth every cent. You will not be disappointed!! Quote
