Dear fellow simmers,

Just an idea, but do you think it’s possible/a good idea to build a snowspeeder battle with AT-AT/AT-STs on Hoth? It seems possible, I would imagine given that the snowspeeders would be plane-like objects, the Walkers, rebel troops, and ion cannons would be tank-like objects, and Hoth would be a terrain. The only thing is simulating laser bolts and a harpoon gun. Just an idea that I thought I’d share…

I take it you have 3DS Max and have started building? Its a great idea, you can have any world here in SFP1 but you need modelers more than anything. I don't know how easy you can make things that can walk though.

Would have thought thats all possible - the zsu's look like they are putting out laser blasts anyway.

All you need is the 3D models, the skins for them, the flight models, a new terrain/map.

then lots of ini editing.

Looking at current dev scales - you can put a release date far far away light years into the future

see easy

The Himalayas map could sit in for Hoth, or America NW with winter tiles or the Danger Bering Strait terrains. Lasers would be bullets with new effects to make the already tracers look like bolts.

yep, "light years" away from the sounds of it...lots of tasks to get to that point but might be worth a shot (a start)... :good:

In theory... you could drive ground vehicles, tanks, jeeps etc... it would need to be developed as no one's touched it yet, but in theory, it should work...

If I started building in another (3DS Max is no longer downloadable) 3D app like Lightwave, is this idea still practical?

As long as you know someone who is willing to export your model into 3d Max (and then export it to lod), you can create the model in free-modeling programs, such as Blender.

I thought so too until I tried it...

The problem is that vehicles modified to be used by the player blow up when moving across the ground because of the collision routines. And where you need collision routines (like vehicles running into buildings or trees) there are none. Whether intentional or not (he has mentioned wanting to do land-based wargames) TK has made it pretty tough to do a totally new game.
