JATO & RATO it is possible?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that some Cold War aircrafts (jet and Prop) uses the jato sistem for rapid takeoff.

The question is: can we use fixed or jettisonable jato bottles or rocket in SFP1?

I've tried using modified Genie rocket like booster but without success. Any SOLUTION???

Thanks

Cant be done unless its built into the model itself. Or fudge with the FM but that will make your boost permanent, there would be no way to turn it on and off without it affecting the FM all the time.

Not that kind of booster.

I've in mind something like B-47 stile JATO system.

Maybe creating a weapon station to attack a rocket that you select, fire and release just after takeoff (Just like a rocket that you fire but dont separate from the aircraft until burnout).

Aren't there parameters for drag/thrust/etc for ordinance? Couldn't there be a model of a rocket booster as something like a fuel tank that improves thrust instead of adding to drag? Getting the effects to work might be tricky.

No, it cannot be a load out. How would you activate it, without it flying off. Try it and see. Been there, done that, a Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago (well, 5 years is a long time in the sim world  )

The only way to make it work, would be to add a JATO or RATO pack as an additional engine(s), that is only equipped with afterburner(s). That way, they would work on a B-47 or a C-130 (and have their own, dedicated effects), but might pose a bit of a problem on an aircraft that already comes equipped with an afterburner.

We tried them already in the Natter and the MiG-31 FireFox, biggest problem is that you cannot associate an engine to a fuel tank.

So your boosters can run as much as you have fuel in the plane

That, and like the recently added MW-1/JP-223, it will have to stay with the aircraft, be a part of the LOD, etc.

Maybe when Wings of Israel comes out, eh?

I've tried it before using an engine slaved to a different key command from THROTTLE_CONTROL, but the sim doesn't seem to recognize alternate throttle commands :(
