+Wrench Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 How are you doint the armor specs??? Since it Chobham, like the Abrams.... Here's what I used on the (as yet unreleased ... waiting for patch and finishing terrain and objects for...) Abrams M1A1 (HULL)ModelNodeName=hull EffectSize=1.0 MaxExtentPosition= 1.56, 2.88, 1.75 MinExtentPosition=-1.56,-3.07, 0.00 HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=TITANIUM Armor(FRONT).Thickness=460 Armor(RIGHT).Thickness=400 Armor(LEFT).Thickness=400 Armor([REAR).Thickness=202 Armor(TOP).Thickness=120 Armor(BOTTOM).Thickness=25 SystemName[001]=Engine [Turret] ParentComponentName=HULL ModelNodeName=turret DetachWhenDestroyed=TRUE EffectSize=1.0 MaxExtentPosition= 1.10, 1.66, 2.66 MinExtentPosition=-1.10,-1.59, 1.55 HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=TITANIUM Armor(FRONT).Thickness=360 Armor(RIGHT).Thickness=300 Armor(LEFT).Thickness=300 Armor(REAR).Thickness=102 Armor(TOP).Thickness=60 SystemName[001]=Gun [MGTurret] ParentComponentName=turret ModelNodeName=MGturret DetachWhenDestroyed=TRUE EffectSize=1.0 MaxExtentPosition= 1.10, 0.66, 2.66 MinExtentPosition=-1.10,-0.59, 2.0 HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=TITANIUM Armor(FRONT].Thickness=360 Armor(RIGHT].Thickness=300 Armor(LEFT].Thickness=300 Armor(REAR].Thickness=102 Armor(TOP].Thickness=60 SystemName[001]=HMG SystemName[002]=Gunner1 **replace the brackets [ ] with parantheses ( ) -- stupid board software thinks it some kind of code, and won't let me post the correct data Might not need the cupola armour...bottom might need some adjustmets up Takes 3 direct hits from the stock T-72, 4th one get through Wrench kevin stein Quote
+Gocad Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) A question about the 'ArmorMaterial'. What kinds of material does the game recognize? Is there a difference between, let's say, 'STEEL' and ALUMINIUM? (In-game, that is.) Also, nice tank, Craig. Edited March 9, 2008 by Gocad Quote

Yeah, ever heard about that Challenger tank in (I think) Basrah that took 11 or so RPG hits without the crew being hurt? Quote
super61 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah, ever heard about that Challenger tank in (I think) Basrah that took 11 or so RPG hits without the crew being hurt? Julhelm, Any chance you have a link to that story? Quote
+Julhelm Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 No it was in a Military Modelling magazine I bought in 2003. Quote
Guest capun Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 First thing I do when there is a new TW game or patch is open up aircraftobject.dll with my Hex Editor, then snoop around to see what new variables are available. Now you need to take it with a grain of salt since some of the variables have been there since day 1 and not implemented (yet). And then sort of guess what they are/do, experiment with them a bit. For materials the dll shows: STEEL, ALUMINUM, GLASS. FIBERGLASS. WOOD, TITANIUM. and I think NONE. I have never seen GLASS and FIBERGLASS used in an ini. Quote
+Crusader Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 TK explained the armor stuff and how it works some months ago at TW forum, go for a search there. Quote
Atreides Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah, ever heard about that Challenger tank in (I think) Basrah that took 11 or so RPG hits without the crew being hurt? Almost correct, except it was infact hit by no less than 16 RPG's and a Milan ATM, the crew was fine, the tank made it back to base on its own and all that needed to be repaired were the guards for the tracks on one side. +Gocad Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) I have never seen GLASS and FIBERGLASS used in an ini. The MF Crusader has GLASS armor for its cockpit. I wonder whether you could combine two sorts of ARMOR for the same location, i.e GLASS for FRONT & TOP side, STEEL for BOTTOM and REAR... Anyway, thank you for the info, capun. +Wrench Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Stock Fishbeds use GLASS on some, IIRC I tried combining types on something...FW-190F or one of the Japanese birds, and it didn't work. Wound up using ALUMINIUM, but with heavy gauge for the rear... Wrench kevin stein Quote
BattlerBritain Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 That looks a really good Challenger 2 model. Looking forward to that. With regards to armour thickness a really good site for armour values and armour pen values for different ammo try this link: http://members.tripod.com/collinsj/protect.htm From that I'd set the M1A1's armour at about 900mm and the Chally 2 about the same, armour set to STEEL. Oh, and the Wikipedia site has it that a Chally 2 withstood 70 RPG hits in Basra: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenger_2_tank Quote
