+Fates Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 A United States Air Force jet plane has mistakenly dropped an anti-missile device over the British countryside, setting off a hunt for a device that could be dangerous to civilians who may stumble across it. http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/1...70&emc=eta1 Quote

+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 One report noted that unexploded ordnance had killed about 38,000 people in Indochina since that war ended in 1975. Quote
WarlordATF Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 OOPs, Someones in alot of trouble. Accidents happen, At least it wasnt a bomb. Are they talking about an underwing countermeasures container or a single unit of chaff that didnt deploy when it was released? Quote
triplethr3at Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 what could be so dangerouse about a chaff dispencer. Maybe a flare despenser could burn someone but chaff? What is so dangerouse about chaff? Quote
+Dave Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 The firing mechanism is dangerous. Very dangerous. Quote
WarlordATF Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 After a Google Search, This seems to be what they are talking about... Quote
+FastCargo Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 The firing mechanism is dangerous. Very dangerous. A B-1B chaff dispenser blow a coffee can (size and weight) container full of chaff clear of the tail...at 540 knots. You do NOT want to mess with these things. FastCargo Quote
Guest Bounder Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Looks like EOD is gonna be busy. Aint that the doggone truth! Quote
lazboy Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 The strange thing is that the incident has not been reported here in the UK on either the National or regional TV or Radio news or any of the National papers and the only paper that has reportedly covered the story is a free paper handed out at Supermarkets the equivalent of your Walmart. We don't tend to worry unduly about these things as we are always digging up unexploded ordanance in our back gardens left over from some past conflict the fields around our house in Sussex are full of military remains dating as far back as the Romans! +JediMaster Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I'm sure there aren't too many unexploded Roman devices left around. Quote
