zmatt Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 So I have noticed something and I am sure others have too. Post oct/08 patch all of my prop powered craft fly very oddly. They stall really easy and have strange flight characteristics. I don't know how many times I have put my P-40 into a flat spin. Does anyone know why this happens, or a fix?

Yes, it's a known problem. Talk to Wrench, or do a search.
+Wrench Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 That's why we Keep Repeating overandoverandoverandoverandoverandoverandover Use ONLY the 06 patch level for you WW2 installs of SF/WoV/WoE....and.... DO NOT PATCH YOUR WW2 INSTALL TO CURRENT STANDARDS. DO NOT USE WOI or FIRST EAGLES FOR YOUR WW2 INSTALL. DO NOT CREATE A WW2 INSTALL USING POST-PATCH SF/WOV/WOE I think that pretty much covers the basics... The patch adds absolutely nothing to the WW2 Experience - the only thing in there of the slightist value, is the in-game generation of static, parked aircraft. And guess what? We already GOT lo-poly statics on 90% of the WW2 terrains (the issue of the game generated ones being 99.9% of the time era and theatre inapproiateness not withstanding...) With nearly 300 WW2 type aircraft (including variants and sub-variants) and only 2 or 3 guys that can handle the flight modeling ... don't expect ANYTHING to occur for the foreseeable future in regards to updating. With yet another patch/upgrade on the way for WoI that will introduce the IDFs P-51Ds (and EAF Meteors), we're all waiting to see what new/modified parameters are waiting in the wings. (pun intended) Till such a time appears....well, you know the drill. Wrench kevin stein

+lindr2 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Maybe you'r right but i patched Tu-4/B-29 FM.... I changed 15-20 values, and i like result... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=34936
+Wrench Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Thank you lindr!!! That's EXACTLY what I mean.... and that's for a reliatively non-manuvering bomber. Fighters are going to be a 'hole 'nuther can of worms; BUT for somewhere that UNDERTANDS the aerodynamic variables, all it'll take is that someone willing to spend the time to correct whats "off" -- on the 300 aforementioned aircraft and sub-variants BUT (again!).... with new FM stuff on the horizon...who know's what it'll bring???? +Fubar512 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Here are some generalizations, to give one an idea as to what's required. A) Most piston engine fighters tend to be nose heavy, when compared to jet a/c, so the wings were mounted further forward on the airframe to compensate (moving the center of lift forward), but this also adds to he forward weight bias. B) Straight wings generate most of their lift in a narrower range than do modern swept wings, resulting in lower stall (alpha) values, but relatively higher Cla values, when compared on an area-by-area basis to modern designs. C) Stall and post-stall behavior is generally more benign on straight wings, and the nose-heavy weight bias almost guarantee's an easier stall recovery (think of a nose-heavy paper airplane, and you may find it easier to understand). D) Roll-rates are slightly different left-to-right on prop planes, due to the effects of propeller and engine torque. Feel free to add or critique
+lindr2 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) Fighters are going to be a 'hole 'nuther can of worms; About prop fighters: i download La-9 & La-11 & corrected some values (Inertia,Mass, speed ect)- no BIG problem with FM at sept patch (but i like HARD FM's) La_9_La_11_DATA.rar need FT drawings for La-11, i will try to make it's no jettison tanks (optional loadout) Edited December 23, 2008 by lindr2
