This is a great add-on aircraft (Kudos to the team) and I thought I would do some minor lights adjustments for it................hope the authors don't mind.

Cool! Looks like you added the tail light and rotating beacons? Just a reminder, the tail is an all moving slab...so I don't know if your tail light will 'float in space' at certain rudder deflections.

It will float. Storm had the same problem with lights on the B-1B. So he made that they only work when the gear are down. Only way to avoid that.

You're correct. I guess it is no worse than the position lights on the swing wing birds. Unless you're just a hot stick and know how to use the rudder properly, most folks will fly with their feet on the floorpan and won't even notice.............................

Do you add this to the data.ini or the F-107.ini?

aircraft lighting should be somwhere near the bottom.

Mh couldn`t we standartise this glimmer effect maybe for gearlights?! When you use the tower view to look for a landing plane.. all you see is a white flash floating in the air?!

 

smaller white light, just for show using mainly the offset position and a white glimmer in the gears light?! Like the Mirage 2000D uses them ;-)

Just a suggestion, each to his own, have you played with your LightSrcOffset=? Just in case your not aware, the settings of your X, Y and Z entries and depending on where your lights are located on the AC, can be changed to enhance the "projection" effect of the light on the runway. Might try checking TK's stock settings and experiment from there. Those settings can also be used to eliminate any "ghosting" you may notice also on your nav lights. Like I said, just a suggestion.

I figured that's what those values are for, but no one has explained quite how it works. Does the offset number form a cone from the primary light ref? What's the difference between LightRange and LightSrcRange? Etc, etc.

The way I was taught from Dfang and Hrntfxr, to "move" your light "beam, glow, cone" what ever you wish to call it, posi, X is left/right. Y is front/back. Z is up/down. Its a INI dance to find the happy place. Put it where your happy with the light housing/fixture is, then I usually go from the pilots view to start, then work around from outside.

 

It will never look the same from diffferent points of view, so dont be fooled into thinking "that aint right". You may be happy coming in to land with the placement, then say oh crap that looks like hell from 1/2 mile out using the F6 or F10. Like I said, INI dance.

 

You can do amazing things with them. Also Brightness= bigger is not always better. You can take a 0.02 bulb and make it look like the sun using LightSrcRange= and LightSrcOffset= zero being the lowest and increase from there.

 

I do the YAP cockpit lights mostly with a 0.01 brightness= and use the LightSrcRange= to compensate for "glow" effect. Using LightSrcOffset= to "place" the illumination where I want it. X=side to side, Y=Front to back, Z=up or down.

 

Anyone with other expertise, ideas, suggestions or tips please chime in. Even contradictory comments. No problem.

I found this, quite accidentely, whilst looking at the Mig-27 for another reason entierely....

 

AttachedNodeName=outer_wing_L

 

this was in the right/left position lights callouts. They move with the wing sweep. Maybe something like that for the tail light?

PS Verified! They DO work!!! Though you have to have another line in the entry: MovingLight=TRUE...ya forgot to mention that Wrench... :biggrin:

 

Now I gotta go into the F-111 files...and we can get those position lights on the Bone to look correct...

ok i moved the taillight entry from the fuselage to the verttail

 

SystemName[001]=Rudder

SystemName[002]=TailLight

 

and changed the taillight data by adding the AttachedNodeName and MovingLights entry

Wrong Node name...there is no 'VertTail' on the F-107.

 

The proper name is VerticalStab.

Thanks for finding this...you da man! I guess TK added this feature in the Oct 08 patch...sneaky!

 

Anyway, I was thinking this for the XF-103 as well...oh, some related news, I've got ALL the bays to automatic, even the rockets. You should see what happens with a multi rocket shot...

 

Now if I could just improve their aim....
