Thud-G of the 17th Wild Weasel Squadron, assigned to the 388th TFW, circa 1972. Almost done tweaking the FM, will do 560 knots clean in full military on the deck, 760+ knots in full ab. I need to reposition the tail code decal.

Malibu, I'm making up an orange-smoke booster effect for your SA-2s...

764 knts?

wtf?!? i can't even reach this on a F-15 Oo

Ed Rasimus, in his book "When Thunder Rolled", speaks of hitting 600 KIAS in a clean '105D in full military, in a shallow dive, while pulling out of weapons delivery run, and of once seeing 750 knots on the deck, in full AB. The G-model sported the J-75-19W, which was more powerful, than the power plant in Rasimus's D-model.

The Thud was the fastest jet on the deck. Then the F-111 came along.

I also read the RF-4C was pretty fast down low as well.

Nice Fubar.

2nd time reading this awesome book:

At the debrief of a mission, his flight lead asks: (Loyd)

"How fast were you coming off the target, Raz? Man they were really tracking you."

I hadn't really thought about it at the time decided it was pretty damned fast. "About 750, I think", was my reply.

"Damn it, if you ever take a hit at that speed, you won't stand a chance of getting out of the airplane. What the hell were you doing?"

"I dunno, Boss. I had lots of cutoff and all that speed, but I wasn't gaining on you. How fast were you going?" Loyd grinned, knowing that he'd been found out. A bit of big-bore gunfire can do that to a guy.

BTW, Nice work with this Thud Fubar, really gonna enjoy it !

A nice touch the orange smoke at launch! :good:

Funny....I just finished "Bury Us Upside Down" (about Misty FACs) and "When Thunder Rolled" during this holidays...both great books... and now I'm waiting "First In, last Out" (Weasels stories)!

I'm interested in this too! I love the -105 almost as much as the F-4.

Remember you guys though, as I've been told by several drivers of fighters over there, that there were a lot of airframe and engine hours on all these airplanes by the mid to late 1960s, and it was a rare bird that could get up to factory specs in performance - especially with all the stuff they hung on the airplanes also by then - including add-on antennas and such. I am no expert and have no first hand knowledge though...

I was told that one of the reasons the IR housing was ditched on many F-4C radomes in late 1966/early 1967 (slick radome photos) was the bit of performance increase in the bird. (It was added back on to house the AN/APR-25 RHAW gear then coming into use). In my opinion also, the weps packs for post Oct 08 versions of the sim could use some increased drag, especially the drop tanks.

As USAFMTL can attest, I have the benefit of "expert" advice regarding the flight characteristics of "seasoned" 105D/F/G models, as well as the hard wing F-4E.

F-105D-31-RE 62-4334 "Bat Bird" texture-set (with an updated flight dynamics file for same), is ready for release, pending "official" verification.
