mirage IIIEA colours

Recommended Posts

Hi pilots,

I am trying, for a while, to paint a good skin for mirage IIIEA, and I have had many difficulties to find the true colours of these planes.

I've done some try like that :

First

I caught the colours from pictures of mirage IIIEA I found on the net.

Second

For this one, I used "FS" colours give by some "modelling" site (FS34079, FS34102 and FS30219).

third

For this one, I used other colours, "USAF Vietnam like", find on F-4 profiles...

I need your opinions and advises. Thanks in advance. :salute:

I like them. Very good work, as usual.

Nice skins....and an interesting question. I could tell you that the colors used probably are Tan FS 30219, Dark Green FS 34102 and Olive Green FS 34079. (Color chart)

But to be honest, given that you already have done three different versions of that skin I would recommend that you just pick the one you like best, since using the colors I mentioned must not necessarily mean that the finished skin would look like you envisioned it. Just saying.

From an Argentine, the second one is the most accurate...

Good job, I see you've corrected the "Fuerza Aera Argentina" ;-)

For realism sake, the IIIEA with that cammo were not wired to fire AIM-9, only Magic and Shafrir.

Only newer with grey LowViz are supposed to carry the 9Lima.

Thanks for your comments and support, guys ! :ok:

I have done another try, with Tan FS30219, Dark Green FS34102 +10% darker and Olive Green FS24079 (instead of FS34079).

Here is a photo of a Mirage 5 in 2005 from Airliners.net, presumably with the same mil spec colors and they look recently applied also. The appearance will certainly change as it sits in the sun for several years! I have found that both shades of green lose their yellow/olive tint and become a more faded green, almost with a slight bluish tint (play with a painting program a bit). In the extreme, both colors start to look a similar shade and are hard to differentiate. All this would depend upon any number of factors.
