Women, you gotta love 'em

Recommended Posts

Thought I would share this. The other evening I had a lady friend over. I noticed she was studying one of my many prints of WWI Aircrafts. The one in question is my favorite Russell Smith print of Warner Voss engaged in his final dogfight. Curious, I ask her what she thought of it. She said "That must be the same person that does Thomas the Train Engine".

AAAaaaaaaHHHhhh!!! Not the answer I was expecting.

Until you ask them to pick a color she wants painted in a room.... then doesn't like it after you spent 2 days of your life spackling, sanding, priming, preping... and painting the room to perfection.

I'm guessing the reference is because of the face on the trains.

My Childhood was basicly Thomas the Tank Engine, Postman Pat and Fireman Sam. grin.gif

Don't go there a few years back with my ex I ended up decorating the same room over the space of 3 month's 6 times and will someone tell me what the hell White with a hint of apple is or Fuscia or Burnt Sienna (The last one I thought was a slightly over done movie actress though actress is stretching it a bit)...

Also when's it Man Day as today was world women day!!!

And why is it that when a woman does something pretty amazing it's in the press whereas if a bloke does it only his mates find out about it about 3 week's after the event ??? :dntknw:

Beer I have decided I need my own Vineyard for the amount of trouble they give us sometimes... but other times a simple smile from a woman can be enough to drown a 1000 bad times... :drinks:

hee, hee, hee...after 22 years of marriage this all sounds so familiar. I am lucky enough to have a woman that does her own painting of the walls. That being said, every room in our house has lost at least an inch in length and width due to the many times she has changed the colors.

And how about when you're getting ready to go to a party or an event of some sort and you get the "Is that what you're wearing?" To which I reply, "Oh no darling, I just threw this on while I wait for you to tell me what I'll be wearing." I've learned to bob and weave immediately after saying that.

I learned that the first time 'round. After that I painted everything semi-gloss bright white. The latex paint cleaned very easy with 409, 2 kids made it fun. Besides, she learned she could redecorate with what ever she wanted as white goes with anything on the walls. And it made the 40 year old oak floors look brilliant.

OK... color #1 rejected... moving on to color #2....

Will have to reprime the walls as color #1 was too dark... so that's already 4 times I painted... whoops... no..... six... times... prime... paint... prime... paint... etc.

If from whereever you are living on this planet, and happen to outside on a quiet day, and hear the distant sound of a man screaming in ultimate rage... pay no attention... it's only me.

Well, I have learnt a lot from my relationships.

When my last lady wanted her living room (she was fortunately still living in her own place)

in a kind of "Papyrus", I went to the "Do it yourself" market with her and chose a colour.

Being a Graphic Designer, I know that colours in rooms should always be chosen much brighter

than you first think. So I picked the lightest "Papyrus" tone.

She found it much too light, but I said "Wait until you see the room done".

When it was painted, she said "yeah, it's lovely, but I still think it should be darker".

I said "okay, we paint it darker - but when it's too dark then, you will have to paint it brighter

all on your own. I won't paint this room a third time. And you may have to paint it twice, as a

brighter colour won't kill the darker so easily."

Said and done. We did it darker.

Two days later she said: "I feel depressed in this room. It is really too dark now. You were right."

Call me a basterd, but I let her paint it all over alone, hoping for some "learning effect".

And really - since then, she never tried such things with me again.

But it didn't last; and the above may speak for you, OvS: you must REALLY love her very much.

Yes, I do. To explain our relationship... imagine a cat and a dog living together. Sums it up nicely.

So... paint choice #2 going on today...

If we have to paint or wallpaper, one of us has to leave the house until it is done!!

A cat and a dog? Well, people say, opposites attract.

And I have in fact been living on a farm for some years, were a dog and a cat

lived happily together - he had know it as a kitten, so there was no hunting reflex

from his side, and no panicing from hers.

It was so cute, to observe, how the little cat used to climb on his head, when he

slept, as if she wanted to be as close as possible, lay down there and fell asleep too.

Another battle-proven advice perhaps (got it from a professional room painter):

if unsure about a colour, paint a square of 6 x 6 feet; then decide about it.

Could save you from doing the whole room a third time.

(Women have strange ways of finding out, if we still love them).

I've actually had an opposite experience where I learned to appreciate a woman's color expertise

My Ex and I moved into an old apartment that was straight out of the 30's, cast iron stove and all

The place needed a complete remodel, but at $0, you couldn't beat the rent

I concentrated on the kitchen which needed paneling, cabinet resurfacing, and countertops

She painted all the other rooms in the apartment

The work really put a stress on our relationship and we had many a fight

I got territorial on the kitchen and insisted on picking the cabinet color

Near the end, she started to paint one of the cabinets while I finished up the other

After about 3 brush strokes I told her to stop, getting the obligatory nasty "Why"

It was the most excruciatingly awful color I'd ever seen, an orangish brown

We immedeately went to Home Depot to puchase a different color

When asked "What color do you want now"" I said "Whatever color you want"

That was the last time I ever picked out a paint color

Even when I was President of our Condo Association, we needed to choose paint colors, etc

I always agreed with the lone female member of the Board

While I admit some men have the talent, in general most men can't tell the different between blue and green

Women on the other hand, can sense the differnce between shades and how they affect the room

Unfortunately, this places them on the (multiple) decision end of the team, while we're holding the brush rofl.gif
