Parky, von Paulus, please advice

Creaghorn,

Choosing the right combination of PSU and GPU can be a challenge. Check out post #57 here: http://forum.combata...es/page__st__40, it has links to a few review articles that should give you some idea of the power consumption problems with many newer graphics cards. Having the most powerful graphics card on the market often comes with additional costs. Underpowering your GPU can cause graphics anomalies, system crashes, and potential early failure of other components on the 12V rail(s).

BTW, I think you have the start of a very nice system. I tend to build AMD/ATI-based systems and have been very happy with the results. It's hard to beat ASUS boards, especially their heat dissipation if you plan to overclock. I've always been a fan of Corsairs matched memory pairs...they are higher priced because they're throuroughly tested and hand picked. I recently switched to G.Skill and have been surprised by the quality and easy overclocking.

Also, thanks for SoundTweak II. Definitely adds to the OFF experience!!!

my psu has 750w. i'll try it with it before considering buying a new one. but thank you for the hint. didn't even consider stuff like that. since i'm such a fool regarding computers, i'm like some geek who buys a ford mustang bullit, instead of building and restore it by myself... blink.gif . but alone in this topic i've learned so much by you guys...

it's done...the button for getting closer to divorce is pushed... grin.gif

Ahh Creaghorn, don't worry this is not nearly as difficult as restoring a car, plane, boat, etc. I know it may seem daunting, but it really is simple, the first computer build can be a little frustrating, but as you get the hang of it you will see its fun, rewarding, cheaper and addicting.

My first build was a nightmare! I built it in 2007 and I went with an ASUS striker motherboard, Windows Vista 64 and a serious watercooling setup... NOT A GOOD IDEA FOR A FIRST BUILD LET ME TELL YOU lol.

First the striker motherboard had many many bios issues, then since vista was so new I had huge problems with that too. My first problem was that vista could not be loaded on a machine with two harddrives installed and it took me a solid day to figure that one out, then I found out that vista could not be installed with all four sticks of memory in the slot, it took me a solid day to figure that one out too....Then when I had my whole watercooling loop setup nightmore, I filled the resovoir and began to cycle the pump when to my HORROR water started shooting out of my cpu waterblock everywhere (thankfully the cpu was not on and thankfully its distilled water and none got in the actual socket, but still it was a bad scene).. And then once that was all taken care of I still had weeks of bios tinkering with the ASUS striker just to get the system stable!

Here are pics of my first build!

And there is the old compaq on the left that I had replaced it with...seems like an eternity ago!

In contrast the latest build for my parents with the I7 930, Corsair H50, OCZ 12gig o ram, XFX 5770, etc took me only two and a half hours to assemble, install windows 7 64 and have running like a top!

If you were not on the other side of the planet I would gladly assemble yours for you too, lol, I love puttin them together now....almost like it more than actually using them!

Well, you can always say that farmville facebook will play better with this system.

Besides you can always give her the thought that this also means that you'll be distracted from other... temptations.

A man must have his hobbies. Otherwise it will be like a lamb without a flock.

I hate to assemble. Long goes the time that I felt the same level of excitement you have now.

I don't do it anymore in a regular basis. Even with my own rig I hate to change anything inside.

The only thing I like is to play video games and use it for helping me with my hobbies.

von paulus, parky, and everybody who helped me so great here, a big thank you drinks.gif .

works like a crisp. trying to get out the maximum of the new rig just to see how far i can get. even during major offensives in 1918 with airactivity set to high and ground object density set to high with sliders maxed out with everything set on 5 besides terrain and scenerie (set on 4) FPS never falls beyond 50. only at airfields it's about 30+.

never knew that the scenerie is that beautiful. now it really looks like google earth. WOW.

still got to tweak some settings with nhancer. at the moment all is perfect, only when looking into specific clouds FPS fall into the 20ies. it's not the whole sky. even when overcast and foggy it's perfect. i think my current setting just doesn't like one specific sort of cloud. have to find out why.

also this bloom and hdr mod i'm not using anymore. when trying it falls from 60 to about 40 FPS. turning it off makes the FPS jump up again to the max.

strangely the mirrors are not reflecting anymore but look more like foggy glas. it reflects light etc. but not anything visual.

but anyway. i think that's minor issues related to the GPU. since i know that my GTX 260 is the bottleneck now (and that's a good feeling to know that a, still quite good and strong GTX260 is a bottleneck) the next step in a year or so (or when p4 is released) is to upgrade the GPU.

once again a big thank you to all of you guys. especially to parky and von paulus. you're the best good.gif

I like German girls.

Besides I love German Kultur, I like some of the landscape......, don't like so much German beer, even I only tasted 100 different types and not the zillion types the German are always trying to sell me.

I only know Hamburg and Köln, and would like to visit the all Bavaria and Berlin (hello Olham).
