harryleith Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) I recently added a new range of soviet SAMs to spice up life in the air - and boy, it sure worked! Instead of staid ZSU-23-4's and SA-2s, I was getting blasted out of the air by accurate, hard to dodge and decoy modern anti-air systems. It was a nasty surprise, but great fun, even if I did go home with my arse in a brown paper bag more times than not. As soon as you fly into the area, there are literally dozens of "SAM Launch!" and "SAM inbound!" calls. You really have to work to avoid those SAMs. If all you are only seeing is boring SAMs and AAA when you fly, sprinkle some modern systems in the Ground Objects folder. You will regret it - but you will have a great time! Edited June 28, 2010 by harryleith Quote
harryleith Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 It also makes SEAD missions much more hairy and rewarding, too! Quote
Wrench Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) We've had SA-3/7/8/9/14 since around 2003. FastCargo gave us SA-5s in 07 (irrc). SA-6 has been stock in the game since WoE/WoI was released... There's never really been a problem with not having enough Red SAMs ... it's the Blue side that's always a little lacking. What with only HAWKs, Chapparells, Stingers and the occasional NIKE. This thread might be of some interest, albeit not updated for a year or so... check out the 4th post down, it's GroundObjects http://combatace.com/topic/21870-the-mods-thread-a-listing-of-whats-available/ wrench kevin stein Edited June 28, 2010 by Wrench Quote
tiopilotos Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I have a problem with the early soviet SAMs. I've installed weapons pack 2.52 which includes SA-1, SA-4, SA-5 etc. These SAMs don't appear in the game even If I select early 60s as a mission date. Then I checked the country users of these SAMs by using Weapons Editor. I selected Warsaw Pact but nothing happened. Then I thought that I should check every terrain on its own. In Taiwan terrain the opponents are China and Taiwan. Red side for China and blue side for Taiwan. So I used once again the weapons editor and I added China as country user of these SAMs but even after this nothing happened. Before mid 60s SAMs don't appear in the game. Since mid 60s some early SA-2 versions appear. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Wrench Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 WarsawPact is not a valid "nation"; it's a weapons attachment type only. I'd reset ALL the stuff you changed in the various weapons BACK to how it was. The issue of them not showing up would more than likely be casued by 1) exported or not exported (this is for BOTH the SAM launcher, missile, and the associated radar) 2) callouts on the various terrains; are there target's called out for "SAMLauncher, SAMRAdar, EWR" etc 3) flying with the operational years that said systemn were deployed (StartYear=) 4) amount of groundobjects to placed in game (ie: options-->GroundObjects-->unlimited this also effect parked planes) 5) Air Defense level selected (light, random, heavy, insane) If you want PRC specific, you'll have to create the HQ-2s out of the SA-2, and specify them as China only, exported=FALSE (which in not true, as Pakistan and other use them too) BTW, the ActiveDate for the PRC SAMs on the Formosa terrain is 1970. The ROC, if they have sites, would probably be using HAWKs. Chapparell and Stingers should show automatically, as they're classed as "MOBILE_AAA" and "STATIC_AAA", respectively, thereby being automatically placed by the game engine in target slots marked "AAA". wrench kevin stein Quote
TheStig Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I am not seeing HAWKs in the ROC/Formosa/Taiwan terrain and all my export settings are right too. Only enemy bombers are shot down by Chapparals. Quote
Wrench Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 That's because HAWK batteries MUST be placed on the terrain via the _Targets.ini. They're just like Sov/WarPac SA-* batteries, and will not show up on their own wrench kevin stein Quote
TheStig Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I didn't place S-300s on my maps and I can fly in 2027 with an S-300 site on every map. Quote
TheStig Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I will try changing the hawks to STATIC_AAA or MOBILE_AAA to see what happens. Quote
Fubar512 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I didn't place S-300s on my maps and I can fly in 2027 with an S-300 site on every map. Because S-300s are set as static SAMs, the system will automatically place them and their corresponding SAM radars wherever there's a suitable red-side SAM site defined on the map. Hawks cannot be set as mobile SAMs, as they are data-linked to their radars. You need to have a SAM site declared for them in the terrain_targets.ini. Quote
TheStig Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I have some Hawk standalone SAMs in my folder. I'll try and convert to STATIC_AAA and see what happens. I have multiple Soviet SAMs I need to do the same to. Quote

I have multiple Soviet SAMs I need to do the same to. Until you create a friendly SAM site on the map for them, nothing will happen. TheStig Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I managed to catch some of my standalone HAWKs cook some SAMs off at some SU-17s but no hits were scored. On the other hand my F-4G got greased by about 7 SA-11 Gadflys on a SEAD. Ouch. Quote
Falcon161 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 AH yes I added Tor-M1's and Tunguska's have made my flights more interesting. FE was doing an SEAD mission in a Su-30G and flew into their radar range and instantly had about 8 of them launching at me! Finnaly destroyed the radar site and about 6 of the Tor-M1's but on of the last two knocked my damn wing off with a missile so had to eject...I did complete the mission though...The Flight of F-22's escorting though lost every single aircraft the only one to make it back to home base from my flight was my wingman Quote
