Hi

I have flown a couple of close air support missions where we escorted Roland CII's to bomb an airfield.

But I didn't see any bombs being dropped and no explosions on the airfield.

Do the AI bombers use their bombs?

Cheers

They do. But the Rolands in OFF don't carry any bombs, so that's why you didn't see anything.

If you some day happen to fly a bomber yourself, your wingmen will drop their bombs at the same time as you, so remember to aim carefully.

Why the heck - I enlisted in MFFA 1, where I should do bombing raids too.

Must check, if I really won't get bombs.

I flew a Roland campaign a while back

Hasse Wind is correct, no bombload

She's strictly a Recee bird

Okay, thanks, Duce - bang goes another illusion.

But the other bomber AI do definitely bomb their targets. Best was, when I started for a mission,

and right after take-off, my own field got devastated by R.E.8 (who didn't get back home though).

Oh yes, they certainly do!

Various times I've chased AI bombers - usually fruitlessly - and heard the whistling as their bombs head off towards Terra Firma.

I've had to dodge such bombs more than once ;).

As already noted here vonOben, yes they do. And, quite well I might add. Wish I had their knack for sorting out lead angles and windage. Also, like BH, I too have had to do some fancy zigging and zagging to avoid having one of their eggs land right in my lap.

Hmmm, not a very good idea sending away aircraft that doesn’t carry bombs on bombing missions.

Seems like a bug in OFF BHaH…..

there are no bombing missions with the roland. only recon and artillery direction missions.

You could still do raids with your front gun, vonOben, and if you mark ground targets or vehicles

(you have to cycle through your TAC to get to those targets), you can order your men to attack those.

Maybe your rear gunner would even pepper them.

Hi

As I wrote above was it a close air support missions where we escorted Roland CII's and the briefing text said the Roland’s were going to bomb an airfield, so apparently they do go on bombing missions. :wink2:

But not when you fly a Roland yourself. That's probably what Creaghorn meant. But yeah, it's kinda weird if the AI Rolands you are ordered to escort do bombing missions without bombs. Maybe that kind of escort mission type should be removed for Rolands and replace it with escorting them on recon or something, unless in P4 the Rolands get bombs?
