As to the upgraded Hind its by a South African Company the link gives an idea...

http://www.guncopter.com/super-hind/

Basically take the old Airframe and modify it with new avionics and weapons... There is also an Israeli company doing something similar.

Here's one of the Hinds in flight

As to the AFV looks like a BMP with a Turret set for Anti-Tank Missiles possibly the South African Ingwe

This latter is a guess though...

The hind looks similar to the one in Blood diamond. SA do alot of mod stuff and some of it is rather good!

I thought this had already been through qualifications already? The SuperHind is ugly as sin, and like all fugly vehicles, must be awesome at what it does!

It is true that the Helo has been qualified to fly etc... I think its just that Rostovol are just bad mouthing as they didn't get the job as from what I understand the Algerian Military is very happy with the Fugly bird... I tell you this much the Hind was ugly to start with and after this nose job it gets a 10 out of 10 in the Fugly awards...

I wonder why nobody uses the space of the troop transport section.

I think it's a matter of weight. With weapons and internal cargo, it becomes too heavy and difficult to manouver. I've heard the cargo space is used to carry extra ammo.

I think the russians are speaking bad about the south african and israeli modernization programms, because they offer 2 own programms to enhance the capabilities of the hind.

In both cases they implement technology of the Mi-28N into the Mi-24. The improved russian Hinds have now full night fight capability, new engines, improved weapons and a Mi-28 (AH-64) style tail rotor which is reducing the noise of the helicopter significantly.

That's the Mi-35M, but I don't know if that's a retrofit program or it's only new builds. The funny thing is the Mi-35 used to be just the export downgrade model. Now the Mi-35M is the better version and Russia itself is buying a few dozen.

The trouble is that the Mi-24/35 is a JOAT design. As a gunship it's big cause of the troop/cargo hold, and as a troop transport it's not much better than a cheaper Hip bar better armour, making it heavier and less suited for landing stoops in tight areas.

I don't know why people would buy them these days. Didn't Brazil buy some recently?

Yes they did but from a military point of view it does make some sense... CSAR is one of them... also it can take a few hits and also they work out a lot cheaper than an Apache...

True but I don't think the Apache was in the running in the first place! I think it was VS the Mongoose and the Rooivalk.

Shame they didn't get the choice of the KA-52!
