New Computer, optimal way to reload HiTR for Win7 64 bit.

Fellow OFFers,

 

I just received a new gaming machine and seek some input as to how best to reload HiTR on Win 7 64 bit?

 

My current install is on a PIV XP 32 bit.

 

Can I transfer the install and what issues are likely for a WIN7 setup?

I've had no issues at all with OFF in Win 7 64 bit. In fact my TrackIR works better than it did on Win XP. No problems with any security updates, and I have a bunch of 32 bit programs installed, including M$ Office. Win 7 is well worth the money, I wouldn't go back to XP for any price (well, maybe if the price was high enough).

Must admit I have not tried for a week but me and old Win 7 (64) are having a serious falling out. Still having issues getting OFF to run. Another format and reinstall at the weekend me thinks.

I have a dual boot Win7 64/XP and OFF runs better on the Win7 side than it does from the XP side.

 

The really nice thing about that is since all my games on on separate HD's from the two OS systems (I have 6 separate HD's in my PC), I do not have to reload all the games to get them to play on either the Win7 or XP side so it is a true apples to apples comparision for me.

I haven't had problems with any mysterious 32-bit security updates either. Oddly enough, Microsoft actually recommends installing Office 32-bit on it's 64-bit OS. Something to do with 3rd party add-on compatibility issues. In addition, a default install of Windows 7 results in the primary account having administrative rights, so all this stuff about having to "be in administrator" is a bit confusing as well. Winzip is a 3rd party compression utility.....it doesn't come with Windows 7, and it didn't come with any previous Microsoft operating systems either, so I'm not sure if that should be an issue for the OP.

 

Speaking of which, now that we've come this far off topic, perhaps it's time to try to help with the original question.

 

Just my opinion, but I'd probably opt for a clean install of OFF, as opposed to trying to transfer it over. A transfer might work, but a clean install may just save you some headaches and result in a more stable and better running piece of software. The install on Windows 7 should be a starightforward affair. No magic required.

Same here, no probs with Win7 64 bit . I'm running Office 1998 32bit with no issues at all. The only software from my XP days that won't run on it so far are Macromedia Dreamweaver and some adhoc accounting package. I simply run them on XP (dual boot) instead. If you have Win7 pro you can install virtual XP and load you old stuff on it and then create a shortcut to your win7 desktop - run the programme in XP but access it in win7. Pretty neat.
